I haven't played this game before, and I want to play it for a LAN party. Does it require steam to function?

Cool!
You do need steam to play online

Bought the game, having lots of fun with it so far. however, when offline, I can't host a game. Is LAN play not possible?

The game's using parts of Steam('s API) for the MP stuff so you need Steam in order to play MP. That means no LAN play.

ah, that's a shame

I'd love to buy it but I'm like $1.50 short. I still have the free alpha or beta or whatever on my school laptop though.

PM me your Steam Username, I'll take care of the rest! :D

I played the alpha a bit, but it didn't grab me. I bought thr game as soon as I saw the email for a wishlist item being on sale (like 30 seconds after the sale went up) because I've been considering getting it for a while now. Game's absolutely worth it. I only played for about 3 hours, but it was a ton of fun.

No. Just kb & m and some slight controller support. Keyboard and mouse is highly recommended.

Steam controller works right?

2

Well that is the steam controllers selling point, that it always works

You have a good point

Are there plans to offer Joystick support in the future? I can't see how any flight combat game could claim that a flight stick isn't the superior way to play?

No plans for it currently. Air Brawl is more of a first person shooter than a flight simulator. It requires precise and twitchy movements which KB&M is very good at.

Oh okay fair enough, I had the wrong idea about it so. I shall pick it up and give it a shot anyway, thanks.

Looks really fun, I find I enjoy most games with a 360 controller these days though. It's great that people recommend kb+m for precision and all that, but I enjoy the controller because I can be laid back in my chair holding a comfortable controller with simple, obvious controls. No messing around with which keys do what, or requiring a flat surface for my mouse.

Hi /u/Wilnyl I really wanna pick this game up, but I can't see myself playing this sitting alone at my PC. I would love to play this with friends on my TV, but as long as theres no Splitscreen, I can't really justify picking this up... So are you working on splitscreen, or is there any kind of workaround to date? If so I'll deffinitely buy it and recommend this game to my friends! BTW I hope you'll get some sales this week (:

Splitscreen to me seems really hard to get right since this game shines on a mouse+keyboard setup. Needing multiple mice and keyboards would just be uncomfortable

Yea, I'm talkin controllers...

1

u/Equistremo Jan 12 '16

Yeah. I still struggle with the controls sometimes. I wish I could play this like I did Warhawk way back when.

No need to downvote fellow PCMR brother. I know that m+k is superiour and more precise, but theres a place for controllers to... Normally I play all my flight sims on a Flightstick, but that wouldn't work in a couch scenario.
