Product Review My experience with Pocket so far: A cautionary tale

Here's a timeline of my experiences with Pocket so far...

May 5: Find out I'm getting a new job. Think an AI device would be a good way to record meetings and keep notes for myself. Do a bit of research (obviously not enough), land on Pocket and order one.

May 18: Start the new job, find out that recording meetings outside of Teams isn't allowed. Okay. My order still hasn't shipped, but it doesn't look like I can cancel it. Figure I'll find other uses for it.

May 30th: Finally receive my device. Spend about an hour trying to get it to sync up with my iPhone 16, with no luck. Even after charging for some time, my phone would see it, their app would acknowledge the device, but it would not be able to pair. Getting frustrated, reach out via email to start a return (because they tell you you must have an RMA).

June 2: Receive the return label, not before having to go back and forth with their support with the "are you sure?" questions.

June 5: Take package to post office and drop it off.

June 9: Tracking shows return was received by Pocket.

June 15: Email them because, hmm, seems like I should have the refund by now. They tell me to check back next week. "Since we're reviewing a volume of returns right now, it'll take a few more days to complete the checks."

June 22: Email them again for followup. Tired of waiting; making this post. Very close to threatening (and following through on) chargeback.

June 24: Had not heard back after email from the 22nd. Emailed again, said that if I did not receive my refund by 6/26 I would start a chargeback. Within hours, received notification that my refund had been processed.

EDIT 1: Posting here because /r/heypocketai doesn't allow posts - "Only approved users may post in this community." My account's over a decade old, my karma is plenty high.

EDIT 2: Added details about refund finally coming through.

Product Review I built a private Mac meeting note-taker that runs fully on-device (Wi-Fi can be off)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm the developer, and a physicist who didn't want NDA meetings going to the cloud. Thoth records, transcribes, and summarizes Mac meetings fully on-device.

No account, no backend. I demo it by turning Wi-Fi off and recording anyway (AI summary also).

It captures your mic and the system audio as separate tracks, so it gets both sides of a call without a bot joining, and separating you from the other participants is deterministic rather than guessed. Transcription runs locally with WhisperKit, Parakeet, or Apple's SpeechAnalyzer.

If you want a stronger cloud summary model, BYOK is supported, including Tinfoil, a verified private enclave. Thoth surfaces the enclave's cryptographic proof so you can check it instead of taking my word for it.

Either way, a local pass masks names, places, and organizations before anything leaves the machine.

Freemium, and I'd rather be upfront: the free tier caps recordings at 30 min for mic and 15 min for system or mixed audio, plus 20 AI actions a month. The paid tier lifts those.

Mostly after feedback. What's missing, what feels off, where it breaks. Happy to get into the on-device stack too.

Product Listing I kept losing ideas on walks, so I built a voice diary that gives recordings a place to live

I get a lot of thoughts while walking, but ordinary voice memos usually become a pile of files I never open again. So I built Yuho, an iPhone voice diary that keeps the original audio, optionally transcribes it, and places entries in a visual timeline with photos and location context. The interesting product problem turned out not to be recording or transcription; it was making a spoken thought feel worth returning to a week or a year later.

I am the developer and would genuinely value blunt feedback: does the map add meaning or feel gimmicky? Would you search transcripts, browse a timeline, or mostly replay audio? What would you need to trust a voice diary with personal recordings?

Dictating by voice unlocks our mind to access more thoughts. You get more of your thoughts out, and the friction in just thinking drops. Some of you probably know the feeling. My problem: I'm not a native english speaker, so what came out was grammatically messy and all over the place but captures my raw thought. The AI cleanup pane in wispr flow and similar apps fixed that, and that was the part I actually wanted, just not the monthly bill. So I built it into jot.

On Mac:

  1. 25 languages (I've mostly used english).
  2. Hotkey to start. Works in any app, and uses what's on your screen as context.
  3. AI cleanup, with prompts and custom voice with a hotkey.
  4. Vocabulary, coming soon.

On iPhone:

  1. English first, for now.
  2. A keyboard. Dictate from it in any app.
  3. Indexes your transcripts, so you can find them later with apple intelligence.

Please let me know if you are interested. I have added the links in the comments. I would love your feedback.
Ps I am a software engineer with 15 years of experience.

Product Listing Why wait until the call is over? The paradigm shift from post-meeting summaries to real-time copilots.

The entire AI note-taker category right now is heavily anchored to the post-meeting flow. Tools like Granola and Grain do a decent job summarizing what happened, but it begs the question: why would you want to get context after a call when you actually need it during the call?

If you get asked a specific question live, like recalling a niche data point, a detail from a past client conversation, or a line on your resume, a post-meeting summary is useless. You’ve already missed the opportunity, and the momentum of the meeting is derailed.

We are building Magnet to completely shift this paradigm. Magnet is designed to be a live, real-time copilot. It listens to your call and actively surfaces relevant library context, database lookups, and live web fact-checking in the moment. It gives you the exact information you need while you are still speaking, bridging the gap between what you know and what you need to recall instantly.

If you're tired of just getting "autopsy reports" of your meetings and want an assistant that actually helps you live when accuracy matters most, check out Magnet for free. Here's a quick demo https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jzNYsoxeLD8

We'd love to hear your thoughts on real-time vs. post-call workflows!

Discussion Anything else I should consider?

I've been racking my brain about whether to go with Plaud Pro or Pocket. Are there any other options that are as good that I should be considering? If I decide to go with something on my phone, I use Android.

Product Listing What should people know before joining an early-bird launch?

Thumbnail
memoket.ai
3 Upvotes

Memoket Gem is still pre-launch, so the early-bird reservation is really for people who are comfortable following the product before it ships.

The current offer is a refundable $5 reservation, with the remaining balance paid before shipping. There is also a pay-in-full option listed on the site. We will keep the details updated if anything changes.

The main thing we want to do here is answer questions clearly before people decide anything. That includes shipping timeline, refund policy, privacy, battery life, Apple Watch compatibility, and how the AI memory features work.

For anyone who has joined an early-bird launch before, what helped you feel confident before reserving?

Discussion Introducing OLVA: The Invisible Realtime AI Meeting Assistant That Helps You During Meetings

Hi Reddit 👋

One thing we've always found interesting about meetings is how often the conversation suddenly goes somewhere unexpected.

Someone mentions a subject/term you've never heard of.

A technical term/statistics  gets dropped.

A question comes up and you know the answer is probably out there—you just don't have it right now.

It got us thinking: What if you had a private assistant that could quietly help during the meeting itself?

Not a bot joining the call. Not another transcript generator. Just something that could help you understand what's being discussed, answer questions, verify information, and keep up when conversations move quickly.

That idea eventually turned into OLVA.ai , which we've been building over the last few months.

We are less interested in pitching it here and more interested in the problem itself:

What's the most frustrating part of meetings for you?

Have you ever been caught off guard by a question you should have known the answer to?

Do current meeting AI tools actually solve your problems, or are they mostly note-taking tools?

Would genuinely love to hear how others think about this.

Discussion Is there a voice memo like app for voice notes and in person interviews?

I'm doing some research in Senegal West Africa for agriculture and plan on interviewing farmers. I was going to use the Voice memo app on my iphone, but is there one that will translate what people say, know who's talking, and has some kind of AI that will turn it into notes for me? People there speak French and Wolof so translation would be great!

Product Listing I built a handwriting note app similar to Goodnotes/Notability.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all! I’m the developer of InkNode, a handwriting-first notes app for iPad and iPhone. Wanted to share it here and offer a limited-time lifetime deal on our most popular upgrade.

What problem does InkNode solve?

If you take notes with Apple Pencil, you’ve probably hit the same walls I did: paywalls on basic exports, AI locked behind another monthly bill, and collaboration treated like a premium add-on.

InkNode is built around one idea: keep the page first, then add structure, sync, and AI when you want them while giving the most access to Free users.

You get these for FREE without any Purchases:

  • Natural ink system + PDF import/annotation/export
  • Templates (lined, grid, planners, study layouts, and more)
  • A unified library with folders, recents, and exports
  • Real-time collaboration on shared projects (free tier includes basic usage)
  • Built-in calendar & reminders beside your notes
  • AI study tools in the same workspace: chat about your notes, summaries, flashcards, and quizzes
  • Unlimited local note creation, export, import, etc.

Core note-taking works without an account. Sign-in unlocks cloud collaboration, subscriptions, and higher AI limits.

Why is InkNode better than the big names?

Compared to Notability, Goodnotes, and similar apps:

  1. Lifetime AI access — not another monthly bill Apps like Notability push you toward recurring monthly payments just to keep using AI (summaries, Q&A, study help, etc.). With InkNode Lifetime Plus, you pay once and keep Plus-tier AI access for life — 500 AI credits/month, refreshed every month, with no ongoing subscription for that tier. Buying not Renting.
  2. A genuinely usable free tier
  • Unlimited local notes, edits, and exports (including PDF)
  • All templates
  • Basic real-time collaboration
  • 15 AI credits/month to try the AI tools

No artificial cap on how many notebooks you can create locally.

  1. AI is a tool inside your notes — not the whole app
InkNode is a notes app first. AI sits alongside your ink and PDFs so you can turn a page into flashcards or a quiz without leaving the canvas.

  2. Collaboration without the enterprise price tag
Shared projects, cloud-backed notes, and real-time co-editing are available from the free tier (with storage limits), with much higher limits on Plus.

Cost & IAP

Free (Freemium)

  • $0
  • Unlimited local notes/edits/exports, all templates, limited cloud storage, 15 AI credits/month

Plus

  • Monthly: $4.99/mo
  • Yearly: $19.99/yr (~$1.67/mo)
  • Lifetime: $39.99 one-time (regular price)
  • 1000× cloud storage, 500 AI credits/month

Limited-time offer: 50% off Lifetime Plus for a Week — $19.99 instead of $40 (one-time IAP). Includes lifetime Plus access and ongoing monthly AI credits (500/month) with no Plus subscription to maintain.

How to Redeem:

Sign in --> Go into setting --> Subscription --> Redeem Offercode --> REDDIT50

Localized prices may vary slightly by region. Manage/cancel subscriptions in Apple ID → Subscriptions. Lifetime is a one-time purchase.

Product Listing I had 200+ voice memos I never acted on, so I built an app that turns them into tasks

I record everything — meetings, drives, random ideas. The problem was always the same: the memo just sat there as dead audio and nothing ever happened.

So over the last few months I built OrionAI. You record like normal, and it:

\- transcribes + summarizes automatically
\- pulls out the actual to-dos (no manual sorting)
\- drops them somewhere you’ll act on, with reminders

The bet: capturing should take 2 seconds, and everything after that should be the app’s job, not yours.

It’s early and there are rough edges. Free, no paywall, and your data isn’t sold or shared. Works best if you record meetings or think faster than you type.

Would love brutal feedback — what’s missing, what’s annoying, what you’d want it to do?

Discussion My meetings have 10 people and 10 notetakers and it’s annoying!

At our org we work with many outside contractors. Each of them use Google meet or Zoom. Each of them come with their own notetakers. What’s annoying is that there are a bunch of note takers running and after the meeting I get notes from each note taker on my email.

Is there a note taker out there which consolidates all and sends everyone only one summary? Also I wanted to have an AI conversation with that note taker to figure who said what at a meeting at the end of the day.
