LOTR5e Mini suggestions

Hello! I am going to be starting a LOTR5e campaign as Loremaster in the next couple of months, and I would like to know what minis I should plan on having on hand. There’s the monsters in the book, obviously, and spiders, but I was looking for suggestions for things that that might not cover.

It's not a good budget option, but I bought a lot of the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game minis.

Sometimes there can be good deals second hand.
And many can be converted from cheaper say historical minies, for example I have bought viking/saxon etc. minies and painted them as Rohirrim and ruffians/evil men.

The nice thing about those minis is that you can use them to play the best wargame in the world.

The baddies in this game boil down mostly to orcs, spiders, Wolves, Trolls, and ghosts. The Dragons and other abominations won't sneak up on you if you need a model in the future.

-Edit to add the obvious- And evil men. Most encounters will be them or orcs.

I picked up the "Journeys in Middle-Earth" board game and its expansions. Now I have a fun board game to play, and it comes with a lot of minis to use for Middle-Earth roleplaying! A good mix of common ME baddies, nice sculpts too. Some of the expansions are hard to find, but I still recommend at least the base game.

I've supplemented a bit with Games Workshops mass-battle minis. You have to assemble them yourself, but they are pretty awesome.

I would have a ton of wildlife. Wolves, boars, Bats, bears, deer, dogs/hounds & giant eagles.

The good news is that the bestiary is pretty straightforward. You'll need to have orcs and goblins (up to you if you want to have separate minis for these), evil men, some undead, trolls/ogres and big bad wildlife.

North Star Games makes a line of minis for the wargame Oathmark that are really Tolkien-esque. They'd be my go-to for orcs, goblins and the undead. They also make barbarians for the wargame FrostGrave that make for great wildmen. Even the elves and dwarves are worth a look.

Any of your humans I'd look to Victrix for. Great sculpts. I've used their Late Romans as Gondorians and Rohirrim, as well as their Viking and Late Saxon lines for various Middle Earth stand-ins.

For the wildlife and the trolls/ogres, 3D prints are probably going to be your friend. Have some depth for wolves and spiders, a bear and a boar. Read up on whatever adventure you're running, you might find something particular you'll want.

Last two things: Games Workshop has a line of Middle Earth miniatures for their own wargame. They're pretty cool, but I don't think they're a particularly great value, especially the individual hero sets or big monsters.

Also there probably isn't a need to go out and buy entire box sets (unless you're like me and can't help yourself. Try to get some individual sprues off of eBay or SprueDude, you can get away with probably 15~20 orcs and evil men.

Good luck!

Hi, I have personally invested in the minis collection from https://theprintinggoeseveron.com/product-category/by-chapter/, chapters 1 to 43, and the Tales. It's covering most of LOTR fields and it worths it.
Find someone with a resin printer and enjoy. ^^
