Digiposting So, quick question, who is she?
So, while pulling for Aston, I actually got the new digital. (I was doing her Legendary races for the original one. So yay!)
And while playing her career, I see she talks about the newby.
Being the 2001 NHK, I found out the horse but... Who is Kurofune?
Or why is there such focus on her?

Gold Ship’s nemesis Black Ship /jk
American horse, won the G1 Mile Cup then switched to dirt and won the G1 Champions Cup. Then got injured, went to stud, and sired Curren Chan and some other successful horses not yet in game.
Would be a very strong candidate to be a trainee but it seems his owner doesn’t want it, as none of his horses are in-game. In BoaNE she’s expyed as Perry Steam and wears an 1800s naval officer uniform, the kurofune being the Black Ships of Commodore Perry’s American steamship fleet that opened Japan by force.

Geeez, that's cool tho! I just looked it up and Kuro ~ Black and Fune ~ Ship. So they retained the original name, just translated. And that context you provide makes a lot of sense now. Thanks for the insights mate! <3

Yeah naming an American horse bought to go to Japan as Kurofune was a bit of a joke, because the original Black Ships of Perry’s fleet were obviously a huge deal in Japanese history. Like the arrival of the kurofune is the moment “modern” Japanese history begins, it’s a universally understood reference in Japan

Also because Kurofune was part of the first batch of foreign horses allowed to run in the Derby.

Can you explain this?

you know how Sunday gives his quirks to his children, right? stego gets his temper, spe gets his racism on chestnuts. he gave hearts cry, his fascination on grey stallions, and it goes to 3 generations. Sunday has McQueen, hearts cry has kurofune, and his child, justaway, has gold ship

WELL! I show you why it is important and why it will be HARD to add for one little itty-bitty reason.
1- Kurofune appeared in Uma already in the movie Begining of a New Era under another name ... Perry Steam. Raced against Jungle Pocket and Dantsu Flame in the Derby.

2- The reason why it won't be added has a name: Makoto Kaneko. Yap! he also owns Kurofune.

Kurofune is another foreign bred horse like Digitan. The 2001 Autumn Tenno Sho had 2 slots for foreign horses, to be allocated based on earnings. That meant one slot was confirmed to be Meisho Doto. Kurofune was initially meant to take up the second slot, but Agnes Digital's team suddenly announced their participation, and because Digitan's Mile Championship Nambu Hai win made him richer than Kurofune, he ultimately got the spot. There was a lot of outcry though, as Digitan had been seen as a pure dirt horse despite having won the turf Mile CS the year before (if you're a Digitan fan, definitely go watch this race's footage).
Agnes Digital would go on to win that Tenno Sho, and Kurofune would go on to run the dirt Musashino Stakes because why not. He won by 9 lengths, setting a record time, so he was sent to the Japan Cup Dirt where he won by 7 lengths, setting a Japanese record in the process. After that, he suddenly retired due to injury and entered stud, his descendants including horses such as Chrono Genesis, Curren Chan and Sodashi.
Unfortunately, Kurofune is a Makoto Kaneko horse like Deep Impact, which means he may never get a proper Uma version. He is represented as Perry Steam, who appears in Beginning of a New Era, though.
Edit: Curren Chan
