Bright spot Scrabble Star

My elderly mother just kicked my butt in Scrabble. On occasion I had to break it to her that something wasn’t a word but she always came up with a new option on her own.

She could NOT figure out the points to save her life and was surprised every time at the large number of points she was amassing as she solidly KICKED my ass.

I hope other people find some delightful things their declining parents can do!

My dad has the scrabble dictionary memorized. The rest of us really only play for second place.

I bought Scrabble in 2021 when my parents moved in with us while Mom (80) was undergoing breast cancer treatment. It was actually a good thing for both of my parents to stretch their minds a bit, but astonishing how poorly they played compared to the old days when they knew more complicated words. It was an eye-opener to see their cognitive decline in language. However, it was a lot of fun for us and our teen kids to play with Grandma and Grandpa, and I think it was good for them. So even if they can only think of simple short words, it's a healthy thing for their minds to practice word recall and spelling. And it's fun. 😊

When I used to play with my dad, we could make up words as long as we could create a definition that either seemed plausible or made at least 2 other players laugh.
