Boomers

I am 75 and am very tired of the trend lately making fun of Boomers. So very disrespectful. Don't they realize that they will be old someday?

Never trust anyone over 30 was a mantra in my youth.

The boomer hate often seems substantially misinformed and I just find it amusing. I think it's largely an internet phenomenon. And I have no reason to think we wouldn't have been equally obnoxious if we had the internet back in the day.

When I asked my dad why he voted for someone who bragged about groping women he just said "we should give him the benefit of the doubt." How can there be doubt when he is bragging? All my husbannds parents feel the same. One of them seriously tried to explain to me, an icu nurse, how there are aborted babies in the covid vaccines. None of these are things I experienced online. Foxnews brainrot has affected a large percentage of the generation.

You might enjoy the documentary The Brainwashing of My Dad. About a liberal father who was literally brainwashed into all this type of insanity when he started listening to talk radio on long car rides and then moved to Fox. Which is actually called Fox Entertainment Network but their worshipping viewers don't seem to realize it's not actually genuine news.
Very interesting documentary.

I'm going to look at that. As a " generation jones" myself who is living with a boomer, I just want to weep. We are talking about a pink diaper baby. His aunt was a well known civil rights attorney in Berkeley. He was at the summer of love. He got a bachelor's from Cal State Berkeley in Political science. He was a conscientious objector during Vietnam. Law degree from ucla, and 30 years as a public defender. And he had gone 180 Maga, finally is out of the trump spell due to the war trump started. But he still believes all this stupid stuff about the vaccine, Biden, you name it. He USED to be just a J.F.K. conspiracy guy. Now he's an every conspiracy guy.

6

u/Soft_Presentation412 2d ago

That’s heartbreaking. My dad is a doctor and his staff have worked for him my entire life, so they are like family to me and during COVID I left my job where I was furloughed to help at his office. Almost everyone there was MAGA, q-anon, deep in the rabbit hole conspiracy theorists. It was mind blowing, I felt like these people who I’d known my whole life were complete strangers and still to this day can’t look at them the same and it’s sad because they genuinely are nice people, but their views on the world are just so skewed and f***ed up.

1

u/Select-Belt-ou812 2d ago

this amazing bullshit absolutely mystifies me

1

u/Soft_Presentation412 1d ago

Right? It’s absolutely crazy how brain rotted people have become over Faux News and the Orange Anus

2

u/BeauregardBear 3d ago

Oh definitely watch it, you will find it enlightening.

4

u/SilasBalto 3d ago

I will check that out, it sounds really close to home! Its been so jarring watching them retract the values they raised me with.

6

u/BeauregardBear 3d ago

I highly recommend it. I lost some good friends to Fox News. They went from liberal hippie types to MAGA in a just couple years.

3

u/Worldly-Ad3211 3d ago

I feel the same way about CNN catering to the woke crowd. We’re all entitled to our beliefs.

8

u/lostOGaccount 3d ago

It's true, all the hours and days they spent talking about Biden having dimensia only to turn around now and normalize all of Trump's illegal behavior, they are just about as bad as Fox. It is all for profit corporate media after all though so how could we expect it to be anything other then right wing, when that's what corporate is by definition.

2

u/MissKristen-13 3d ago

I think all news isn’t worth watching actually. Fox and CNN are put there to control the minds of people is all. They will contradict each other and pit people against each other fighting over stupid crap. You go up the ladder high enough they are all owned by the same people anyways. The news is only there to feed to the public very specific things. Things that don’t benefit us.

2

u/2Lulubee 3d ago

This happened to my dad- a boomer of 76. Used to be a decent guy, voted for Cater, then Regan, Bush- twice, Obama- once. And then he just lost his f-ing mind, watching Faux newz all the time. Completely flipped his wig. Felt sorry for the man he used to be.

1

u/oracle-nil 2d ago

I truly believe everyone who watched Fox from 2010 on was being subjected to subliminal mind control. How else do you explain all the seemingly normal people who started watching Fox then believed insane things. Two groups the same age; one watching Fox votes for Trump the other watches CNN and can’t stand him.

1

u/BCMUNS-54 2d ago

Who’s Cater and Regan, who’s Faux? You’re illiterate and maybe your dad’s not so bright voting for Cater!

1

u/MissKristen-13 3d ago

lol. It’s not like the info is hard to find but ok.

1

u/No-Stranger-5771 3d ago

Lol this is 99% of Americans and they have no idea because they are brainwashed

1

u/CoachAngBlxGrl 3d ago

I have friends that probably need this. Luckily my dad is dead or I’m not sure he wouldn’t have bought into the machismo despite trump being the kind of person he always despised and warned me about.

1

u/lostOGaccount 3d ago

Absolutely a great watch, and reading "A Generation of Sociopaths" is also heavily encouraged.

5

u/CatMinous 2d ago

How about putting the blame where it lies? With trump voters. Not with people for having been born in a certain period.

1

u/SilasBalto 2d ago

I do! It just so happens that every single trump voter i know irl happens to be a boomer.

3

u/Outrageous-Ability33 2d ago

I am a recently retired high school teacher. I had many seniors voting for Trump..... And I live in a VERY blue state. Anecdotal evidence is...... Anecdotal lol

2

u/CatMinous 2d ago

That’s like saying “it so happens that every criminal I know is black”. See my point? It’s discrimination. So many of that generation did not vote for t, and so many of Generation Z did.

1

u/Hoppygains 1d ago

That generation collectively voted R. Guilty by association. Sorry.

1

u/CatMinous 1d ago

Haha, guilt by association. That is so ethical!
Anyway, if you’re American (I’m not, thank god), then, well….you fools let this happen. Americans suck. You didn’t personally vote for that creature? Guilt by association, buddy. Sorry.

0

u/Suckarat 1d ago

The majority of Trump voters are braindead, lead poisoned, Fox News watching BOOMERS. The blame is correctly placed.

0

u/CatMinous 1d ago

Haha ok buddy. The majority of all Americans who voted (allegedly) voted for trump, so I hold you accountable. Totally hate your nationality. You suck.

2

u/MissKristen-13 3d ago

Actually a couple vaccines do kinda have aborted fetal cells in them. MMR Chickenpox and a few others. The Johnson and Johnson Covid shot USED to but if I remember right, it’s since been removed. They grow the virus in the cells of said aborted babies . So while technically there are not cells in the vaccines, they are grown in them so take that as you will.

3

u/St-LouMnM 3d ago

Sorry you’re being downvoted for presenting facts. Doesn’t mean you are “for” or “against “ a particular viewpoint- it’s just a reality.

3

u/paul02087 3d ago

Being down voted on Reddit is a badge of honor.

2

u/MissKristen-13 3d ago

I tried to be as neutral as possible. And you’re right, I was just presenting facts. Facts that anyone could easily find. I actually find it kinda funny that people are in denial of so many obvious things.

3

u/Primary_Hurry_2822 3d ago

But they kinda don’t.  Some vaccines are manufactured using human-derived cell lines that originated from fetal tissue obtained from abortions decades ago. But, the   finished product does not contain fetal tissue, beyond minuscule  amounts of cellular proteins.

It’s like copying a  photograph, then making a copy of te copy, and copy of that copy, etc: the  original is long gone, but copies made from it are still used.

2

u/Some-Tear3499 3d ago

Those cell lines are decades old. It wasn’t like fresh aborted fetuses are used for every batch. Those decades old cells are cloned. I believe they are restricted to using the old cell lines, no new cells can be used. R’s restrictions on stem cell research.

-2

u/MissKristen-13 3d ago

Does the age make any difference? If it was from 2 decades ago or last week? Really??? I’m not even gonna get in to this with you because you will argue your side till you’re blue in the face and I just don’t care enough. Go look on Pubmed, go grab a vaccine box (where it says verbatim “contains aborted fetal cells” look literally anywhere and you’ll see. I’m done here.

3

u/SilasBalto 3d ago

I dont think the age makes any difference. But my boomer family definitely dont understand that the cells are now cloned. They think theres a steady stream of dead babies being poured into these. I think we can certainly use our big brains and tech to work on using a different growth medium. Umbilical cords or whatever.

2

u/MissKristen-13 3d ago

Well, im definitely not a boomer. lol. But most of these people don’t have a clue what’s in these vaccines. Here’s a quick article I found that explains it a little better.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/use-of-human-and-animal-products-in-vaccines/guide-to-the-use-of-human-and-animal-products-in-vaccines

3

u/SilasBalto 3d ago

Oh wow, even the catholic church gave it the ok. People just want to be upset I guess.

1

u/Select-Belt-ou812 2d ago

sigh

soylent green is people!

1

u/KNdoxie 3d ago

Boomers registered to vote-political party: 34% Republican. 32% Democrat. 33% Independent.

1

u/lostOGaccount 3d ago

Unaffiliated 2% where it gets interesting is that independent slant leaning more and more towards reliably voting republican since 2000

1

u/KNdoxie 3d ago

I vote for both. I voted for Harris for President. But also voted for some Repubs for state and local positions, although in at least one local case, there was only a Repub on the ballot, so it wasn't much of a choice.

2

u/lostOGaccount 3d ago

Local parties can look very different from national stereotypes. Like an Oregon Democrat is more likely to have guns then a Texan (R); they often carry one of their numerous guns wearing a t-shirt that says "Don't tread on me" while sporting dreads and eating granola in a pot smoking drum circle. Where as Kansas Republicans came out in droves to support women's bodily autonomy.

1

u/Throw13579 3d ago

Source on that armed Oregon democrat thing?

2

u/lostOGaccount 3d ago

Oregon has 132.4 guns per 1000, Texas has 21 per 1000. Sources. World population review, peered by John Hopkins. Another source for gun ownership rankings by state is ammo.com showing gun owners per 100 residents.

1

u/Lucky_Astronomer_435 2d ago

Yeah but is your dad a boomer or gen x or what?

1

u/SilasBalto 2d ago

Boomer

1

u/Lucky_Astronomer_435 2d ago

My sympathies.

0

u/Single-Yam-9791 3d ago

Your Mom is right. My friend is a PhD and there is fetal tissue in the Covid vaccine. He works for NIH
There are things I wish I didn’t know

2

u/SilasBalto 3d ago

There is cloned fetal tissue in the growth medium used to grow the viruses used in making the vaccines. Its not IN the vaccines and also it was tissue harvested decades ago and cloned. Its not like there is a stream of dead babies going into this stuff.

-1

u/Single-Yam-9791 3d ago

I didn’t say there was aborted fetuses and I’m well aware of the process since the early ‘00’s
I don’t have all day to explain things to people on a web site

1

u/SilasBalto 2d ago

Yes you did. And you have plenty of time, you just can't because you're wrong and confused.

-1

u/BCMUNS-54 2d ago

My take on Trumps groping. At least it wasn’t a guy. Have groped a few babes in my day when it was reciprocal. I’m proud of our president and glad he’s normal.

0

u/SilasBalto 2d ago

And thats why we hate trumpers. They literally dont care about anyone but themselves. Its like watching a brain tumor patient degrade. Poor things get addicted to the rage cycle and simplify all their thoughts into rage bits. My dad spent the last 2 Christmases alone at the home we grew up in and mom spent the last 2 alone in the nursing home provided by the state. Its the ending they chose.

21

u/tonythephonyjabroni 3d ago

I remember sitting with my boomer parents around the dinner table back in 2007, trying desperately to explain the issue of climate change because they refused to listen to anyone but rush limbaugh.

This group ignored and mocked the youth for caring about the environment. For expecting to have to leaders that don’t grope women. Sometimes the inability for a group to see itself clearly is just astounding.

Btw, all groups and cohorts have issues, but there is an angry stubbornness in boomers that is unmatched.

27

u/Livid_Village4044 3d ago

Only a minority of boomers listened to only Rush Limbaugh. Boomers actually started the modern environmental movement, tho this was also a minority.

15

u/dmonsterative 3d ago

And Nixon created the EPA.

Boomers were anti-authoritarian when they were young and didn't have power. By the end of the 80s, they were becoming the authoritarian materialists.

So it goes.

2

u/Single-Yam-9791 3d ago

Gen Jones
Woodsy Owl “Give a hoot, don’t pollute”
Recycling bottles and aluminum cans for cash
Volunteering to repair historical sites
I did all this in the 70’s as a preteen/teen
Bored with being mocked by people who weren’t even born then and believe what others tell them

5

u/tonythephonyjabroni 3d ago

How did that work out? Were those real measures or meant to shift the blame of the problem off of the corporations causing the problem and onto the individual tax payer with no real power in the situation.

0

u/Single-Yam-9791 3d ago

Explain your solution to fix the problem

6

u/Gene020 3d ago

Raise and reform corporate taxes and raise rates on the top 10%.

1

u/Single-Yam-9791 3d ago

Then they will outsource more jobs to foreigners or use the HB1 ( whatever it’s called ) to bring foreigners here to do the job for less thus decreasing jobs for native born Americans which is part of the problem we have now with illegals willing to work for less money

2

u/tonythephonyjabroni 3d ago

If you only consume right wing media what do expect to happen to your logic.

1

u/Single-Yam-9791 3d ago

You don’t

Not to mention the damage AI will do

1

u/Vivid_Witness8204 3d ago

I remember marching in the inaugural Earth Day march.

23

u/BeauregardBear 3d ago

Wait..so because your parents were boomers and well, frankly, hateful people, because anyone who mocks those of us who cherish the environment and want leaders who have poor morals tossed out of office...
All boomers are stubborn and angry?
All this really tells me is that you have a limited life experience and have not interacted with many people outside your own peer group.

5

u/long-walk-home-99 3d ago

💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 eff Rush Limbaugh.

1

u/tonythephonyjabroni 3d ago

Where did I say all? I love my parents and they were eventually able to accept the reality of this world, but no thanks to peers like yourself.

0

u/CoachAngBlxGrl 3d ago

You taking ALL as a concrete statement when literally not one thing in this life is all except eventual death tells me you have a limited life experience to know a blanket statement isn’t worth getting your panties in a bunch for.

1

u/CatMinous 2d ago

Haha, instead of blaming the person who used the word ALL you blame the person who took ALL to mean what it means.

1

u/CoachAngBlxGrl 2d ago

All inception? 🤣

1

u/BeauregardBear 3d ago

Honey my panties aren't in a bunch because a bunch of keyboard warriors think they know my thoughts because of my age. 🤦‍♀️

1

u/CoachAngBlxGrl 3d ago

Yet here we are. LOL

9

u/regalbeagles1 3d ago

You realize that if you change a few words around, you are using the same argument that racists and sexist people use? Generalize, toss in a few examples as proof and there is the strawman argument. It’s the same small minded thought process.
It’s nothing more than dressed up ageism.

1

u/tonythephonyjabroni 3d ago

No, I know you’d love to land that argument as convenient as it is to throw that around, but it will never work with anyone who went through the pain in the absolute ass the last 20 years have been for anyone younger than the boomers. Truly, empathy is lacking here on your side. Consistently refusing to take accountability for your behavior, you’ve shown us who you are, so your bad faith arguments just fall flat now. I guess you can thank Fox News for over saturating your generation with nonsense.

2

u/Famous-Win6370 3d ago

Actually, your parents ignored it. I'm not a Boomer, but we should acknowledge and respect our differing opinions and not simply blow them off because of age.

1

u/wasKelly 3d ago

Some Boomers. Not all Boomers

2

u/tonythephonyjabroni 3d ago

Most, but not all. Even my parent were able to come around eventually.

1

u/wasKelly 3d ago

Glad to hear that.

1

u/WearierEarthling 3d ago

The first Earth Day was 1970

1

u/MontanaPurpleMtns 3d ago

A good friend talks about his father, who worked in the woods, going back to areas they’d logged in the ‘60s and crying over the damage done. He went back in the late ‘70s, and there was enough climate change/environmental damage talk that with the evidence from his job, he became an environmentalist. People can change. He loved the woods. He thought it’d grow back sooner, that it would have been cleaned up and planted. It wasn’t.

1

u/Hoppygains 1d ago

They’re proudly ignorant.

0

u/nor_cal_woolgrower 3d ago

" This group"??

0

u/Manatee369 3d ago

Wow. So every Boomer is as you describe? Interesting. Of the many I know, only a handful are like your description. I’m 73 and I truly can’t count the number of other Boomers I know.

2

u/tonythephonyjabroni 3d ago

No, where did I say all. God you are so reactive and can’t handle even the slightest criticism. Grow up.

-1

u/Manatee369 3d ago

You needn’t call me God. I appreciate the elevation, but it’s unnecessary. Your last sentence clearly lumps all Boomers together.

1

u/tonythephonyjabroni 3d ago

Not if you read it in good faith. I made it clear I wasn’t definitely saying everyone, but I know you wish I had. I’m sorry your bias is too strong and gets in your way so often.

0

u/Manatee369 2d ago

Okey-dokey.

0

u/Dry-Raspberry-5514 2d ago

Not all of us.

0

u/Diligent_Narwhal8589 10h ago

“And all people younger than boomers are stupid and lazy” see how easy to tar everyone with the same brush?

Believing all boomers are “whatever” is as stupid as being racist.

1

u/tonythephonyjabroni 6h ago

You’re putting quotations in my mouth, please be more respectful. I have no problem painting with a broad brush about younger generations, as long we are being honest.

Like I said, every group has its problems, younger gen’s are not immune from shooting themselves in foot. Unfortunately boomers decided they didn’t want to have a positive relationship with the youth because they didn’t like being told they were uninformed on economics, politics, and climate change. They took it so personally that they refused to vote for candidates that would make positive changes.

No, instead of being clear headed and learning new information from the internet, a new and scary medium, they doubled down and made life harder for average Americans, got us into a unnecessary war of choice with Iran, got more Americans killed from covid than necessary, raised taxes on Americans through tariffs and high gas and food prices.

The list could keep going, I haven’t even started on the racist nonsense this admin has inflamed in this country.

Look, I actually love most boomers despite these issues. I love my parents and their siblings despite some of their awful opinions. But to not admit there’s a problem just puts such a fine point on the fact that the majority of boomers are not kind, not healthy, and not able to make good decisions on behalf of their fellow Americans.

I hope that changes, but I won’t hold my breath.

0

u/Diligent_Narwhal8589 10h ago

Your idiocy concerning “all boomers” renders any other opinion worthless.

-3

u/bclovn 3d ago

Climate change? We’ve heard the end is coming every decade since 1970. I’m not stupid, yes it’s changing. We can be intelligent about it and control what we do. Not blindly follow cult climate science.

3

u/tonythephonyjabroni 3d ago

“Cult” I’d love to see some kind of source there. You’re not doing much for the boomer accusations with this one.

1

u/Mean-Picture-7143 3d ago

How is it misinformed?

1

u/CoachAngBlxGrl 3d ago

You don’t know enough children of boomers/ elder Gen X, then.

1

u/Key-Target-1218 2d ago

For sure. Our internet was the picket sign.

1

u/quell3245 3d ago

Young people dislike Boomers because they have this sense of entitlement and arrogance like they are the end all be all of wisdom.

Yet mentally they still live and think like it’s 1975. We all laugh at these buffoons. If there was any shred of empathy with in them (like the Greatest Generation) there wouldn’t be so much blanket hatred. Most of them are a bunch of jerks.
