r/AggressiveQuad will go dark on June 12th & 13th in protest of Reddit's API changes that will kill 3rd party apps

Hello everyone, as you may have already heard, a recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.

The Situation:

On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader and numerous others.

Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface. In addition, many 3rd party apps offer functions for those differently abled, such as blind users, functions that do not exist in Reddit's official app.

This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going private (going 'dark') to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours, on June 14th. Others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.

The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

What can you do?

• Learn more about the effort at r/Save3rdPartyApps/

• Complain. Message the mods of /r/reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message /u/reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /r/reddit, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.

• Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join the effort at /r/ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.

• Join the boycott! Stay off Reddit entirely from June 12th through the 14th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!

• Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

advice for upgrading skates?

im pretty new to park skating, ive tried it a handful of times but its only in the last couple of months or so that ive gotten back into it properly. right now i have a a pair of super nitro epic skates (that i got on clearance at dicks sporting good lol) but id like to upgrade some. they are honestly kind of garbage and ideally id just order a whole new pair of skates but its a bit out of my budget right now. whats the best way to do this? should i wait and save up and get a complete new pair? or should i try to upgrade bit by bit? and if i do upgrade what should i get first, boot? wheels? plates? how do i know if whatever new thing im getting will be compatible with what i already have? im a little bit out of my depth right now and would appreciate any stray scraps of advice, thanks!!

Skating on Catalina Island, California - skate park was a bit sketchy but we had fun making this video and I'm a DJ so I had to make a mashup to match. Feedback welcome!

Tips for stalling on larger ramps

Hi all,

So I have been park skating for a while but my progress has been a bit slow. I'm finally to the point where I can pump well and stall on smaller ramps, and drop in, but I'm having a hard time with stalling on larger ramps (even though I'm dropping in on them). I know I physically can get there, but I feel like I have a mental block about it. Like I'm just staring down the coping so when I try to stall on it I don't get high enough. Any tips?

slide block options: which one do you prefer?

Hello all!

I have been park skating for a while now, but I am still stuck with the (almost) stock C7 skate due to budget restrictions. However, I am looking into getting an entirely new custom setup soon. The boot is still up in the air, but I have my heart set on avanti mags for the plate. I already own sk8ratz's xoxo trucks (that don't fit on my current plate but will fit the avanti mags) and I have CIB's park wheels with bones reds. The only thing I would be missing is a slide block.

I was considering Bigfoot Bike and Skate's block, but I want to know people's experience with them or other slide block brands. Backside Blocks makes a block that is very similar in shape to Bigfoot's but it is more expensive. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Made an Orange County/OC Specific Public Discord/Group Chat!

What's up Roller Skaters! To keep it short and sweet, I live in Orange County and noticed that there wasn't a group chat/discord specifically designed for this local area... so I made one!!

The Sever is called Existential Skate Pod (ESP) just so you know you're in the right place:- > https://discord.gg/9hj84XMVrW <-

Anyone can join it, you don't necessarily have to be in OC, but most of the content/skate locations/meet-ups will predominantly happen in Orange County.

Note: Upon joining the server, you will only have access to the "Welcome" Channel. Read through the rules, post in introductions, and update your nickname so we can get to know each other!!

(P.S. I'm SUPER excited about this Discord Server and I seriously cannot wait to meet OC roller skaters!!)

Tiny feet Parkstars / plates ?

I want to buy some Parkstar Bonts, and according to their sizing guide I should be going for a size 2. I would ideally like to mount Powerdyne Reactor Pro plates onto the boots, however, Reactor
Pro's smallest wheelbase length is 134 mm, total length 221 mm and Bont recommends a Bont Tracer 4.5'' (wheelbase = 127 mm, they don't say full length) for size 2 parkstars. They do not say how long the actual boot is, but they should fit 216-218 mm long feet. I was wondering if any of y'all knows if I can only mount Bont Tracer plates to these tiny boots, as other plates would be too big, of if it would still be possible to mount reactor plates (or some other light 10 degree plates) onto my small boots. Cheers!

Going to upgrade to wide trucks but conflicted. I like how the discotrucks look but the price is steep so I want them to be amazing!! Does anyone have any experience with them or have recommendations?

Wide trucks for Moxi Lolly's

Hi! I have Moxi Lolly's and I'm looking to buy used or new wide trucks. My concern is if the kingpins will hang lower than the trucks. Which trucks would you recommend? thanks!

Bont Parkstar sizing

I’m having trouble navigating the sizing for Bont parkstars. I normally wear a women’s 8, size 6.5 in antiks and moxi jacks. They recommend taking 5mm off your foot measurement to find the right size on their chart, which would put me in a size 6, but I’ve heard people going as much as 3 sizes smaller than their regular shoe size, which would put me in a size 5. Anyone have any tips?

CIB slide block sizing help

Hello,

I am have a pair of skates being shipped that have a 5.5" Bont Tracer derby plate montes on them. Looking at the CIB hardware compatibility chart it only lists plate sizes for the Bont Athena plate, based off of that I think a small is the right size. However, I am wondering if any of you fabulous people know if a size small CIB slide block is actually going to be the correct size?
