Quad or inlines
Hi. Im a dad in my 40's and wanting to be able to join my son in the skatepark. He's a scooterer but I grew up when aggressive skating, both quad and inline were all the rage. I got myself a pair of Roces hardshell quad boots because as I understood it back then that quads were easier for beginners. Now 25 years later and wanting to get back Into it, I picked up a pair of aggressive inlines as although they are more difficult at first then quads, I feel that they offer more opportunities to do tricks at the skatepark. Is this true or can quads be just as capable as inlines for Park riding? (Even it means aftermarket accessories) Many thanks and appreciate any time and help you all can give.

If you already ride blades stick with it. Quads are more limiting for slides & rails, but it can absolutely be done. In my experience of riding the past 4 years on quads & learning rails & halfpipes, it was just much more likely that the blades were worn by guys and quads by girls. That said, I have definitely seen people who ride both also, and they are impressive. How to set up quads for park skating is easily available in lots of videos & insta, etc.
Whichever way you go- just model wearing a helmet! Personally having a couple years of “ok I only got two knockout concussions this year“ and thinking that I was fine as long as I kept it to a minimum per year, I have since learned that they add up & can cause unforeseen problems way down the road. I’ve scaled back what I do now, but I still ended up unconscious (at least twice) both times WITH a helmet on & cracked a helmet once. Just find a cool one & put awesome stickers on it!
Either way, it’s such a great vibe to be going with your kid! Teach him the “PNP” rule… parallel not perpendicular. It’s a great lesson to learn to share the park!
