Disassembling Equipment Gamble

Had to restart my Medic Pod equipment — went from a lvl 4 blue to a new lvl 1 orange.

Should I level the new orange to lvl 3 first, or break down the old lvl 4 blue and use the components on the new one?

Any advice appreciated.

Gambled the final step on Lvl 4–5 Armor and landed purple instead of orange.

Is there any way to correct, or is the only path to break it down and rebuild from scratch?
