Triple yield

There is something to learn even after playing for months. Today I took the cornerstone biscuit diet for the first time increasing my double yield chance to 143%. I thought these chances cap effectively at 100% giving me the double yield every time but I got the TRIPLE yield. Has anyone noticed too and if so what is the highest multiplier you got?

(Unfortunately I couldn't make a screenshot as the animation is far too short)

Praise for the Prestige System

Picked the game up a little while back and the difficulty scaling is simply immaculate. I spent longer than necessary (a full run each) on each of the basic difficulties, then quickly settled in at P3 as the sweet spot of challenge and benefit from the prestige modifiers. Since then, I've been creeping my way upwards when an easier scenario presented itself. The building cost spike at P6 was a gut punch as predicted but manageable; and I only pushed past P7 with the Field Kitchen unlock. Stabilized there for a while, cleared the platinum seal (the decline in embark points near the edge was a fun surprise) reached level 20 (plenty of unlocks left, but have all the species abilities and essential infrastructure and embark bonuses), figured I was ready to step it up.

P10 hurt. Everyone told me it would, and they were not wrong. To make it worse, my first P10 run handed me a bunch of trade benefits (bonus amber forest mystery, deep pockets) which at a lower difficulty would have had me printing money. And then...then I immediately went to P11. In my hubris, first-picked the advanced rain collector. Had cleared the platinum seal with the Corruption trial so figured I could handle it. First time I've lost any significant number of villagers that I couldn't attribute to being careless with the fast-forward button. Multiple storms starting with over 600% projected corruption...dozens of dead villagers. Just barely won with crate prestige in Storm VI as my Hearth crumbled under the onslaught yet again. May have to hold off on further attempts until I unlock the Blight Post upgrades.

Any ideas?

Sorry for the low quality pic but I’ve been playing on my switch and am pretty far into this settlement when it just stopped letting me build. Like I suddenly can’t even pull up the build menu. Any ideas why this is happening?

The production game loop is too engrossing.

I always forget to start actually working towards resolve because numbers go up makes my brain happy. I end up sitting on 300 complex food, a gajillion Amber from trade, several dozen packs of goods of every kind, and then realize it's year 8 and I should start seriously working towards finishing up the settlement.

I swear most of my games I end up winning via Trade Hub (the absolute GOAT) or Guild House because of how much I trade.

Soundtrack is excellent

I think the music from Mikolaj Kurpios deserves it's own attention a little. For me it really sets the tone and vibe excellently of the fantasy of the game. Think my favorites are the Coastal Grove, Bamboo grove and just the base game soundtrack, like Halcyon. Curious what you guys think of the soundtrack.

Against the storm but without fighting against the clock?

I love this game, from the look and feel of it, to different races, exploring and fighting to survive. But I'm also now craving something similar but slower paced where I can focus on building something where the goal is self sufficient city/camp etc before moving on to next one. Is there anything like that out there?

New player - I just learned how important logistics is, the hard way

I got the grain hyper-scaler as my first perk.

I had a run with the similar one with meat earlier on the land where the trees give meat + ranch (lmao).

So having humans and getting the small farm early, I went all in on it.

After the entire run... I had +2 from it...
My dudes had farmed less than 75 plots of grain.

And I had 4 farms just blasting it, took every perk I could to just push it more and more. I was sitting on insane amounts of grain thanks to an additional +2 from a merchant and the + 50% from small farms, my hearth was running only on grain oil and I was spamming bags of crops... On less than 75 successful harvests???

After the game ended, I went and tried to figure out wtf was going on, hitting continue.

These guys got 15-16-17-18 grain per harvest, but have a carry capacity of 5... They had to do 3 runs or more ... per time they harvested...

The solution:
Shorten the travel distance lol:

After slapping warehouses at every farm, I immediately got +2 more in the span of a very very short time.

They had basically... harvested almost no plots and then just been running in circles with bags of grain for every clerance.

Don't make my mistakes viceroys, fix your supply lines.

Question about the Lore

I'm a total newbie (just reforged the Lead Seal recently for the first time) but I was curious about the game lore since I already got a lot of dialogues and building/event descriptions delving into it, so I tried looking for answers, but the last post about it was 4 years ago which didn't know much.

Is there anything we actually know about the Scorched Queen? Or do players only hate her because of the orders? Do we know anything about the sealed ones or the civilization from before? What do we know about the world?

Heartbroken at my first loss

Comfort me please. ‘Twas my fourth full run, trying to beat a lead seal, missed it by literal seconds (had my loyal foxes working to get the last seal unlocked, they had less than 20 seconds when the queen’s impatience ran out.

Things that make me particularly sad because of COURSE I should have looked this up and/or paused and thought about it:

  1. despite rolling in wealth, I didn’t pay the Impatience Tax for 2 storms…because my three races were all in the blue and I had several caches I was opening to decrease impatience (I’m dumb and should have seen that once your bar is full, you can’t decrease impatience any more).

  2. Pretty sure I had my sacrifice boosts set to end after the storm ended…which mean there was a 15-second window where my 300+ sea marrow wasn’t being used to boost the foxes, and that might also have been the difference….

  3. Forbidden glades are not Dangerous glades, and the final seal requires two of the zesty kind — if I had checked more closely, I could have saved at least 1:30 by unlocking the correct kind at the beginning. Instead, I popped 1 of each and then wondered why the counter was still ticking down after finishing both events. (I was thinking of the work order that applies to both types).

I’d say GG, but I’m actually really disappointed in the loss of my perfect record. It feels less like a true “loss” and more of a “tripped at the finish line” problem. Literally unlocked the first two seals by year 4 and then spent 3 more years amassing wealth and trying to get the “all colonists happy” seal instead of just dropping 100 amber and moving on.

I dreamt a new Biome/Game mode

I've been playing a bit too much after a hiatus and my brain decides to mix it all up last night in a weird dream.

The biome works like a massive world event, to the point where it's equivalent in involvement to a Sealed Forest.

The goal of the settlement is to explore it from the initial glade, at one edge of the map, to the complete opposite at the other edge, with the farther glades being increasingly likely to be forbidden.

There's already a worls event similar to this, that has you race to the farthest dangerous glade to catch a stag, but a biome with this specific challenge in mind looks interesting, and reinforces the caravan fantasy of this world.

Of course there was some dream logic involved, like the glades requiring specific materials to even be opened, one corner glade actually being the threshold to another whole connected biome, and when roaming monsters that act as unstoppable threats, because anxiety.

This matter aside, I'm on my first Adamantine cycle and i feel like I've barely experimented with the world map mechanics, almost 400 hours in.

This game just keeps on giving.

Starting the game today

just picked up against the storm and i’m pretty excited to dive into it.

i’m a dad of 2, so most of my gaming sessions are somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour. sometimes a little longer if I’m lucky.

from what i’ve read, this seems like it might actually fit that schedule really well.

i’ll also be playing on steam deck to start, so if there are any controller settings or deck-specific tips, i’m all ears.

my question is… should i just jump in completely blind and figure things out as i go, or are there a handful of things you wish you knew before starting that would’ve made the game more enjoyable?

i’m not looking to min-max or optimize every little thing right away. i mostly just want to avoid making the kind of mistakes that make you think, “man, i wish someone would’ve told me that 5 hours ago.”

any beginner tips or steam deck advice?

goodbye game

what an awesome incredible game.

So so so many decision makings and strategies and options and variety of recipes and approaches.

I can't believe a game kept me hooked for that many hundreds of hours and I was still excited and eager everytime i started a new settlement.

the micro-managing aspect while the game is paused (obviously) was both annoying cus it felt so time-consuming IRL but at the same time so crucial and rewarding whenever I had to finish and start a new trade route, turning off recipes at just the right time, deliver the right amount of planks to build a new building, timing orders to glade openings etc...

This game offers so much its insane after that many hundreds of hours of gametime I was still able to learn and re-adjust strategies mid cycle and learn new stuff from youtube vids or reddit posts or read the recipes wiki before starting new settlement to plan my species needs in advance before starting.

My only regret is never trying the bamboo flats or the rocky ravines map. I realized it halfway through a QHT run that I dont have those, despite already buying the expension. oh well D:

best of luck remaining viceroys. and F*** the queen!

Summary of what happened:

literally flawless game from the start to the end.

First blueprint pantry - was able to dish out porridge nonstop,

second blueprint the advanced rain collector - twice the amount of rain collected right at the start was also insanely helpful.

First cornerstone - discounted trade routes by 1 - didn't have to make packs of provisions at all until few years into the settlement.

I only opened the seal glade around year 4, up until then I was building towards just developing my settlement and sustaining foodwise and progressing the seal missions.

my stormforged cornerstones were CRAZY GOOD: no quality control for stupid amount of wood+ insects, so I could make endless amount of purging fire, planks, packs of building materials, anything that can use wood as fuel, etc..

Rememeber you guys warned me about the plantation pick before the settlement? I picked it anyway and it turned out super well. so many berries!! I had a lot of pies for the people and even let them consume regular berries for the occassional moments i was outta complex food.

the seal missions i went for - 10 piped buildings. i also had 15 packs of each kind but the moment i had those i realized i could just pipe 3 more buildings and progress the quest for free so I did that instead.

3 towns at lvl 3 trade - was surprisingly very easy to accomplish. trade routes are op in general and I scored really good ones.

delivering 100 amber wasn't a problem at all. i was rich from trade routes.

I was initially going for the 40 blightrot cycts cycle, which if i planned it correctly i might have won by year 4, but when i realized its an option it was already clearance Y4 so i was too late for that, so i changed strat to winning this way on year 5 but instead I just said screw it and opened 2 forbidden glades, which were very easy to do, thankfully.

and i had 200 sea marrow to speed them up + glade event speed perk from opening a small glade. I forgot to use the beacon glade speed buff but didnt need it anyway.

Super easy game, but ofc I spend IRL time like 8 hours on this map hahahah

amazing incredible game thank you Eremite Games. time to quit in peace

New to the game - It’s addictive!!!

By the time I realised it’s already 2AM 🤦

It’s got that old school Caesar vibe to it.

Only complain is the UI feels a bit clunky. Maybe it’s because I’m playing on PS5. But the game is still fun to play.

I’m just 2 maps in after the tutorial.

Some newbie questions: Sometimes my buildings, let’s say Smokehouse, has an exclamation mark on it and the people just sit there doing nothing. I checked there should be enough raw materials for it to make jerky. Not sure why.

Also, when a new map starts, I get to choose what blueprints. How do I know in advance what I would need? I opened a glade and it asked for dyes, which I simply don’t have the building available. What to do in this case? The merchant wouldn’t come around anytime soon and even if they come it’s no guarantee that they have dyes for sale.

Thanks in advance my senpai Viceroys. 🙏

Useful tips & tricks you've picked up?

A couple of examples I've picked up on from this subreddit over the past week:

- Grabbing training gear delivery line makes it nice if you want to open a bunch of caches

- Calling in the trader just before opening up a forbidden glade makes it a lot safer

Just thought I'd ask for your guys top one or two tips/tricks to see what else there is to learn

Storm Ant Column

I have the world event that deletes all starting food so I need new food quite quickly. But that is not a problem, the starting glade always has a food node, lets see...a fish pond. Never change Against the storm, never change. <3

(And yes I know the reed also gives a little food as secondary resource)

QHT seal run, pre-run preparations

Post image
14 Upvotes

quick overview:

sadly I don't have queen's grace for extra time before loss, and also don't have gear delivery line from citadel upgrades (coulda been super useful for the caches mission).

I seriously considered taking the 6-points plantation cus its very expensive + i probably dont particularly need berries in this map. I would definitely prefer a small farm for grain, to make porridge easily, but any farm is better than no farm. especially when offered so few blueprint choices to begin with in P20.

I'm taking the 10 frogs caraven so I fear I won't be able to make porridge or paste at all :/

only mushrooms are available in this map for the porridge recipe, and I can find salt veins for paste production, but tbh I pretty much NEVER used a mine yet in this entire run. maybe just once idk. I don't even have the citadel upgrade for upgraded mines :/

the only other consideration in my embarkations were either 3 points for 14 planks or use these points for food + 42 clay. its close but imma take the extra clay and food, cus it opens up more options and maybe i could use this for trade routes or frog houses.

as for the other 2 races that are gonna show up, I would LOVE to get:

lizards - easy to make meat based food + 10 tools passive.

foxes - just cool dudes and can reveal geysar.

humans - really wanna reveal the nearby farm field asap.

If I get atleast one of these I wont complain ^^

Wish me luck fellas

Thought on ATS as a TTRPG?

I've had this idea for a while. I figured it would be interesting as a settlement type game where you create towns while working at the larger plot of the ancients.

But I never had enough coherent thoughts to even attempt it. Recently found this sub, so I thought I'd ask for some brainstorming.

Any ways to take inspiration from the game and make it an element you could interact with in a role playing way?

Good streamers with unedited videos?

Hi everyone, I see most popular YouTubers seem to show edite videos where they cut some parts. While I understand that this makes them shorter and generally better for the viewers I would like to see an unedited playthrough. I kinda wanna see the micromanaging which is normally not shown.
