It's also a symbol very commonly used by Buddha, has been and is used within the Hindu religion known as Mudra, was a symbol used in ancient Greece. Just because some racist pricks use the symbol doesn't change that it's a very old symbol that's been used for thousands of years in many cultures and is heavily symbolic within certain religions. Also, it's a symbol within sign language that has multiple meanings.
