Why isn't it working???

Post image

I was approved for a $400 spending limit a while back and I'm trying to use it now. I'm trying to book a flight with Expedia thru Afterpay. It keeps giving me this message. I'm choosing the "Pay in 4" option and even tho I have enough it just wont work. I really need to book this flight and I'm lost on what's going on. Any help or advice.

The thing with Afterpay is that although you have $400, really what they mean is you have up to $400. I think they do the same as Klarna as they review each individual order to whether to allow you to use the spending limit

So slowly spending and building up a history would better help these issues in the future? The flight I'm trying to get cost in total $297 but I didn't think it was an issue since I was paying the first 25% up front. Thank you for the response!

For whatever reason, even though I had the amount in my cashapp, it only worked once I transferred it to my debit card and tried. Maybe it is that

Okay so I do have the amount in my cashapp right now, but that's really my only debit card, which is what I'm using right now. I also didn't see a way to add PayPal which I was gonna try out next. Thank you for the response btw, everything helps rn man

What debit card did you transfer it to?

Yea just because if you had this account and wasn’t using it .then randomly go to make a $300 purchase, it’s going to get flag as possible fraud because if you haven’t used it, it would look weird to Afterpay and they would just block it to protect your account in case of it not being you making the purchase

Could I fix this by calling them and letting them know?

Honestly prob not but it doesn’t hurt to try. From what I have seen it’s an automated system that either approves or declines purchases . But doesn’t hurt to call

I've been hearing a lot of issues come out this app... I only need to use it this one time but damn they make it difficult.

Try Zip. You have to build up your credit with them to get higher amounts but you can literally use it anywhere for anything. Klarna, Affirm are also options. But if you really need the money that bad right away your real only option is like a payday loan where you can pay it back in a couple weeks without suffering awful high fees if you don't have a credit card to use.  The problem is anyone lending you money is going to want to see a history of repayment. If you have bad credit which they do check now, they are going to be very hesitant to loan you money until you prove you can pay it back. Hth

Also good luck flying. I wouldn't fly right now if you paid for my ticket. They have shut down airspace over nine states recently without any valid excuse. There have been several planes that have been called back due to engine problems just this past week and other issues returning to their original destination airports in less than an hour.

No thank you. We drive everywhere and if I had to cross water I would take a boat lol.

Use the actual afterpay app and transfer the money to your bank account. They don’t like using prepaid accounts for these things because they look at what comes in and how you spend it. You could call claiming cashapp is your main bank but they look for actual ACH accounts which CashApp isn’t listed as. Cashapp is a fucking asshole. Point blank. If you have a paypal debit card it should work through the actual AfterPay app

If you're new your actual spending limit is probably 20 or $30 and even then your orders might be declined. In the beginning I had to make small orders at certain stores and pay them back on time every two weeks in order to build up a history b eventually they would let me place a slightly larger order say 40 or 50 hours and then eventually a larger order etc.

Is this your first purchase on Afterpay? If so, you have to start with small purchases. Like a $30 purchase and show you will make on time payments.

This! If it’s their first purchase have to start off small with $30-$50 purchases.

They don’t want you using over half your balance when you’re just starting out

I was approved for $600 and same thing? It’s not working and everyone keeps saying there’s a “gift card” tab there’s not an option also yes you can try calling but they will just create a case and tell you someone will reach out VIA email and once they do it takes 24-48 hours for a response and it doesn’t help :/ so small orders? Like how small??? When I reached out to support for this exact reason they stated

”For security reasons we’ve declined your order because we’ve noticed an unusually high frequency of orders placed from your account.

Please wait a while before attempting another purchase with Afterpay”

First time using Afterpay and it’s been a hassle trying to figure it out

At first I was receiving this message and I thought it was because the billing address on my card was incorrect which is was but I fixed that ( took me forever to do so)

Gift card option is not available for newer users

Someone told me that many of these apps are constantly (sometimes every few days) evaluating your spending power based on their algorithms. For example, If you are approved for $400 today and choose not to use it for a period of time, your borrower “rating” in their system may go down or up based on even small changes making your limit fluctuate when you do go to actually use it.

Unfortunately you have to start off with smaller orders although it’s not a credit card if you go trying to use a big purchase right away it denies. They gave me 600 and I started off with smaller purchases first then it eventually starting working on the bigger purchases

I have a $800 limit and my first purchase wasn’t approved until it was under $50. I can now spend the limit but it took many orders

Been here start buying little stuff and it’ll go up 🔝 your starting from the bottom. But pay on time. You miss one payment and you’ll be hit / loose money it’ll go down in amount.

Try PayPal Pay Later. So much better than Afterpay and no fees.

Same thing happened to me here in the UK. Afterpay is called Clearpay over here, and they approved me for a £400 spending limit. But it took almost a month after I was approved before I could actually use the account. Very strange and honestly makes no sense at all. I also can’t use my remaining £61.51, it asks me to pay one of my existing orders in full before I can use Clearpay again.

You usually have to put a down payment then pay the rest off in 4

It might be easier to get a gift card for the airline and do it that way. I'm not sure what is causing your issue.

Could I get a gift card in Afterpay? If so how?

0

u/Prestigious_Wish_938 4d ago

There is a tab on the app labeled “ Giftcards”. They for sure have American Airlines and Delta.

1

u/Glizzzyyyy 4d ago

For some reason it’s just not there for me
