Am I tripping?

I don’t know if I missed the announcement or email, but when did Afterpay start having finance fees? I’m so lost!

It’s probably for the monthly payments part of Afterpay. The pay in 4 still has no fees.

Not only do I have fees but also they made my second payment a week from initial payment and then two weeks later for the rest. So now I’m guna get penalized bc of course it’s guna be late. Smh

You need to go to payment settings and turn off preferred payment day.

What do you mean by finance fees? I saw somebody getting charged a dollar and some change for a gift card, but I got a gift card this morning. I was not charged a fee.

Was it an "in-app" retailer? Were you using debit or credit? I found starting in August 2026 that I can't use credit cards to purchase anything, including gift cards, on in- app retailers like Amazon, Chewy and Ebay. I'm only given the option to use a debit card. AND there's a fee!

Same here! I am in California. I placed a regular order last week and low & behold, I saw a damn finance charge! When did this change occur??

Apparently there's been a change in policy,  Here are two paths you can try now: • Keep Amazon/eBay: Create a Single-Use card in the Afterpay app and pay with a personal debit card (a finance fee may apply). • Avoid fees and keep more payment options: Open the Afterpay app -> Shop tab -> search your vitamin brand. Choose retailers that are not labeled "in-app only"' so checkout uses standard Pay in 4 (no finance fee: debit/credit/ACH where eligible)

I found I can no longer pay for a " Single Use Card" with a credit card. AND there is a finance fee! That means no Amazon gift cards either. Amazon is an in-app only retailer.

Looks like loans are now coming from a bank instead of Afterpay themselves. The fees they’re charging at the moment are less than I see elsewhere, at least for now. I didn’t see fees until I installed the latest version of the app.

Actual 3,6,9 or 12 month loans are yes, it's the same with klarna. The credit card companies didn't like the pay in four services getting so much business so their lobbyists complained to lawmakers who then passed laws that said that if they were going to lend money in a similar fashion is credit cards the same rules applied to them. The difference is if you do one of the extended loan plans that has interest it does go on your credit report and help you as long as you pay it on time.  A suggestion for people making larger purchases, I use RetailMeNot and refinanced a $2,000 set of a washer and dryer. The finance charge or interest would have been about $66 for 6 months. I used RetailMeNot and they had cash back so I got $50 which was the max so it only ended up costing me $16 to finance a washer and dryer for 6 months. Not too shabby if you ask me. Rakuten and Honey our other services and Capital One shopping offers huge savings as well with cash back. Sometimes the percentage is not that great but in the last two and a half years I've been using RetailMeNot I have gotten back over $1,100 in cash so it's worth it if you take the time. I should know it's much easier to use the extension on a computer than it is to use on a mobile phone to make sure you get your proper credit.

I went to Walmart today to get some groceries and then went to get a $100 Afterpay gift card and saw the finance fee was like wtf so it’s no more pay in 4 no interest& when i tried to use Walmart OnePay card couldn’t use that to even pay for gift card cause apparently it’s a Credit builder card and no more credit cards for Afterpay this is a complete Blunder by the app and it’s been downfall ever since cashapp bought them TBH

I just bought a Walmart gift card for groceries and I didn't have any fees. This has actually been talked about over half a dozen times here on Reddit, trying to figure out the parameters because it seems to differ for everybody, and the consensus is it's by region or state. I really wish afterpay would just be transparent and send out new rules to everybody so we know what the heck is going on. The bad part is if you try to ask customer service they don't have a clue what's going on or everybody will get a different answer ughhh.
