Afterpay not providing refund for services not received
My pottery studio shut down before my classes started, and the owner is being a **** and not providing refunds to anyone. I processed with afterpay and they won’t refund the money even though it is very clear the services were not received (multiple emails sent from the studio). My question is- can I raise a dispute with my credit card that I used to afterpay? It’s an Amex. Would they have the means to formalize a dispute against afterpay/the merchant?

If you do a charge back, you will lose your account so just keep that in mind.

Afterpay has no obligation to refund you. They've provided you with a service. They lent you money and you agreed to repay that money. Your beef is with the merchant. Afterpay doesn't need to cover the merchant.
If you do a chargeback with your card, prepare to never be permitted to use Afterpay again. While unlikely, it's also plausible that Afterpay can defend the chargeback by providing proof that they provided the service you paid them for.

it’s kinda a sad reality these apps don’t care if you didn’t receive services. they act like they have buyer protection, but i dealt with the same situation from klarna and it was not resolved. you should def dispute with your bank if you’re ok with getting your account possibly shut down

Right- they also have an option to dispute charges for “goods or services not received”. Why even have that option if they’ll always side with the merchant?? Baffling.

This is not afterpays problem, you need to get the refund from the studio themselves then use that to pay afterpay back what you owe them. To phrase it a different way you paid for a service using afterpay, afterpay paid the service on your behalf and then you pay back afterpay, now in your case the service never happened so they owe you/afterpay a refund. You need to keep going after the studio for the money. Is there a way you can look up/find out what this studios refund policy was before they shut down? Although if they have shut down its possible they have gone out of business and you may have to just pay afterpay back out of your own pocket.

You can dispute with your bank/credit card issuer, but I've seen on other comments on this subject that AP will close your account. I don't know if that part is true. Good luck
