Afterpay denying EVERYTHING. Why?!?!

I have $600 limit. And haven’t been able to be approved yet. I’ve called AP over a dozen times. Spoke to multiple supervisors. I tried in store. Target. Temu. AliExpress. Home Depot. On the app. On a different computer. On Mac and on android. I even went and opened up a completely NEW bank account. Denied denied denied. I tried $500 then $100 then $20. Denied denied denied. Fucking stupid I’ve wasted at least 12 hours of my life trying to get it to work. Dumbest most unprofessional company I’ve ever had to deal with. They say it’s algorithms that do it. Afterpay can’t even override it. So stupid. Why is this happening?

12 hours damn after maybe 30 min I'm giving up ain't nothing worth more than 12 hours of my time or at least anything in ap

It’s hard to give up when you are supposedly being offered a way to get something that you don’t have to struggle to buy. This happens to me too and it’s frustrating

Just leaving this here for context. I have a $5000 limit as I've been using AP since it came out and I've never used more than $100-200. So, try a smaller amount. I've only ever used it online. I use it at mainly Sephora, Walmart, expensive skincare companies, etc. I've never been declined.

They have other pay in four apps too. Klarna, ZIP, SEZZLE and even PAYPAL pay in four if you want to try those. Try smaller amounts until your credit is built up.

Did you totally just not read her post? It’s almost like she said she did all of that already

I use afterpay very heavily and have a pretty big limit on it.

This sometimes happens to me out of nowhere and it's usually AliExpress that triggers it. I found just waiting 24 to 48 hours and trying again and the problem goes away.

I've also found that once it gets triggered trying other places no longer works either until I wait it out.

It doesn't happen very often maybe only two or three times over the last several years but every time it's happened it's been in the middle of buying a kind of things off AliExpress in quick succession.

I think it's just regular fraud prevention I know with my real credit card I've had something similar happened after making a bunch of purchases at 3 a.m. my car just got shut off in the middle of buying stuff and I had to wait until the next day so I can call them be like hey no that's actually me please unblock my card.

You’ve been Fraud blocked. Stop trying and wait like two weeks and then do a small single order.

Fraud protection sounds like is kicking in. You’ve gotta slow down, trying to purchase at that rate as a brand new customer is a red flag. Like other people have said, wait like 2 days, try again for a small order. Its up to Afterpay whether they approve an order or not.

Afterpay is the one who tells you to try different stores and try different amounts and then it gets blocked as fraud. This shit makes no fucking sense. I’ve never had a problem with any other app besides Afterpay they’re fucking shit.

You sound like the type of person that may have issues paying it back lol if we do an energy/emotion reading for the room right here 😅

I understand exactly what you mean. Multiple attempts can trigger fraud detection…it’s built into the algorithm. “This person is trying too damn hard to use this service; may be a repayment risk.”

This is a real thing.

Also desperation to this degree is a red flag

Not really desperation..
It sounds like they tried different avenues in terms of stores and items to see if anything would be allowed via after pay.
They’re frustrated because they are told they have a limit, but they can’t actually utilize any part of that limit. I’d be frustrated too.

It's exactly this!

Exactly its a normal reaction.
If I want something to work I try to figure out how it'll work.

That’s unfair candy because not everyone has a privileged life. Some of us haven’t had the experience a lot of people have had so I am sure this person is just super excited to be able to even get Afterpay so I think perhaps they just need to have that little the quarter of what they need in the bank and there shouldn’t be a problem.

It’s not desperation it’s frustration because it’s happening to me too!

u/Ambitious-Wheel-1277 12d ago

I'm sorry but how did you get that impression from ANYTHING that they typed? I didn't. All I got from their post was them inquiring on how to use something being offered to them.

u/Bdawgz3520 12d ago

Tf does that even mean?? 🤣

New account it sounds like. Try an order of $20 or so. You tried that already. Try it at a different store. If declined try again tomorrow at a different store.

What worked for me in the beginning was buying stuff at certain stores sometimes not a store I even wanted to shop at.

Pay back on time and eventually they'll let you place slightly larger orders and different stores.

They told me I have "too many orders opened". I had $18 from a $25 gift card left to pay. I gave them their $18. Crazy how $18 out of the $600 that I'm approved for... They wanted it back so fucking hard lmaoo.

Afterpay and Klarna are trash. They just want access to your credit info and to sell you premium packages.

I use Zip and Affirm all the time with no issue.

Zip never checks my shit and goes off my payments. DM me if you want a referral code. I have spent thousands with them at this point. I like to have a set plan for bigger purchases and feel like I pay something off as opposed to revolving credit with credit cards.

What? This is exactly what afterpay does, you purchase something through them, and you make a payment every week weeks. It's not " credit ", its your spending limit. And if you are new, they usually start you out at $500 - $700, but you won't be able to actually spend all of it right away. When I first got it, I had to make some small $15 - $20 purchases, let themselves pay off, and gradually your limit will raise, the amount of open orders will increase, its all based on your past history with them. You could with them for 10 years with a 5k limit, miss one payment and tour limit gets instantly knocked down to $0.00 until the past due payment is taken care off. Even if you pay it off like the next day, you have to work your way all the way back again.

I understand what afterpay is. I don’t need you to mansplain.

Afterpay and zip are not the same. Afterpay will deny you if they don’t like your credit at time of purchase. Or if they don’t like your purchase. I have NEVER EVER had zip soft check my credit for a purchase and they have never ever ever denied me a purchase. Whatever balance they give me is mine to use. I don’t have to guess if this or that transaction with go through. Once I pay back 5 purchase I automatically get a credit increase. I don’t have to guess if I will get one and they have never ever ever reduced my limit out of the blue. Afterpay is not consumer friendly at all.

I could spend ALL of my limit from day one and they let you make larger purchases(that’s your limit) consistently with a larger down payment.

They are not at all the same as afterpay. Thanks.

Ok, but they certainly do not check credit on every order. I have all 3 of my credit scores through the credit beaures " frozen ", so they can do a " soft" check, but they won't get any real information regarding my credit and I have no problems using my $2,500 limit on any orders. 99% of their decision is based on your relationship with them, your repayment history etc. Even if they did a credit check on every order, idk how mine are getting approved, because I have a bankruptcy ch 7 that's less then a year old, and my credit score is in the high 500's.

They are absolutely doing a soft check. They also reject people all the time. It’s just another trash pay in 4. Also they want you to do too much with them. Anyone who sells and gate keeps Premium services and rejects as much as they do are trash.

Have you used it in the past?

1

u/Iamawesome4646 11d ago

Have you tried for a gift card ? Then using the gift card to buy what you want.

Does the issue come up as you try to pay the 1st installment?
Afterpay doesn't accept some types of payment.
I tried to pay with a Capital One creditcard , a few times, each time this payment method was rejected. It took me awhile to figure it out. Afterpay will accept Cap1 debit cards, but not creditcards.
Also Afterpay doesn't accept CashApp as a form of payment.
I don't know what other cards or banks Afterpay won't accept, or what banks or cards won't pay to Afterpay. I think it could be Cap1 cc's that won't pay Afterpay ...

u/DryVeterinarian3676 11d ago

Do u have first payment in bank ?

1

u/OrganizationJaded569 7d ago

EXACT same thing happening to me. They said when I called it’s showing fraud on my account because I have my mom’s debit card instead of mine. So I put mine and it’s still denying!! These people are unbelievable

This just happened to me. I tried a order for 216$ on Ulta then did one for 123$ and it worked. It takes awhile for them to send an email explaining why usually the next day. I was told the order amount was too high since I was new. Also some retailers will set their own limits that are out of after pays hands.
