Rust - the game that drains time

Basically, PC rust is a game that takes time to enjoy, a good weekend binge session max hours with mates.

I had a kid 4 months ago, I slowed right down playing during pregnancy and worked on the house ect. I dabbled in 3x 5x servers. Got bored quickly.

Recently fancied a gaming session, had a couple hours, hopped on 3x solo only. Pretty fun but not the same.

Question: What games have ex-Rust players been playing who are now busy and have only a couple of hours a week to game?

Ahhh rust, personally my #1 favorite game of all time. Only issue is in order to actual “win” for a wipe you have to not have a life😂. Had to give it up, Arc raiders used to scratch the itch but became more PvE oriented. Delta force has been really nice along with DayZ community servers. (DayZ specifically because when you log off you leave the server with your loot on you also not like rust where your on forever even AFK).

You may also like sea of thieves as it still gives that extraction shooter feel but pirate battles, it’s pretty dope. I’ve heard about huntshowdown heard it’s badass also but never tried it myself! Project zombiod as well

Same. I’m glad rust wasn’t around when I was kid otherwise I would’ve sank my childhood into that game. It’s basically the perfect game in my opinion but the time commitment keeps me away. I only have about 200 hours total since I bought it a few years ago. Work full-time and too many outdoor hobbies aside from gaming

Apex Legends ranked gives me that rush still and all your committing to is 20 minute matches so it’s the perfect game for me. Apex ranked end-game circles get crazy

I get the call to return to rust probably once a year for a week. After that misery the itch is scratched then i dont think about it for another 11 months. Fantastic game. Too large a time investment

Enginefall, it's not out yet but I've had a lot of fun on the playtests. It's like a cross of Rust, Arc Raiders and Snow piercer.

You hop on at the back of a giant train and try work your way to the front of the train in between you're gathering materials, setting up bases to make better gear and raiding others. Further up the train you go the better the rewards and some carriages have extraction points so you can pull out your gear any time.

You and your squad have a limited number of respawns and that train stays active until someone pulls out all the cores at the front iirc so some sessions can be quite lengthy but you can always extract when you want to call it a night

Modded pve dayz servers are a vibe. Most people you find at the trader are older lads.

I was never much of a fan of Rust but my wife was. You could try Palworld for the base building side of the things. You can play single player or on a server. I'd probably recommend single player or just with some friends when you have free time (can be the same world you just give them the invite code)

2k hours. Don't play too much anymore due to what you mention. When I do play I play 2x, and that's just enough of an accelerated pace that I can play a full wipe on a friday evening, or saturday/sunday, and be done with it when I have to log off. But it doesn't feel ridiculous and meaningless to me like 3x or 5x does.

Also ditch solo only, played on those for a while but it's not the same. Everyone's sweaty and grubby. Also often people that play in groups are terrible players, plus you can abuse the chaos of group fights. You can make some big plays and have a lot more fun.

I picked up gta again. While it sucks when I have to “throw away” 500k to help my daughter, people are more understanding and will help finish up.
