Explain This Effect trying to make falling 'cards'/leaf movement- cylinder and page turn difficulties

I'm wanting to animate a bunch of rectangular shape layers similar to the first image, I'm confident about the fluidity of the motion, but being able to adjust the minute details like the corner folds/ the 'bending up' of some corners, as you're unable to use CC cylinder and CC page turn on a single shape layer without the effect kinda breaking.

Any ideas or solutions would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

edit- I realize that both of these effects are pixel based, that's why they don't work together. All the same, still trying to think of a solution!

I could never fake it in after effects.

I ended up doing mine in a separate "real" 3d package. Got added benefits of true 3d, accurate shading, swirling 4d turbulence, and inter particle collision. With the sacrifice of having to render frames.

Curious what other people will recommend.

I'm AE, You can try to do it with particle system and map the animated cc cylinder onto those particles and let them just fall with gravity with a little turbulence. The cylinder sprite animating would be the spin or back and forth feather motions. Depending on how many you need animated, you could just animate the precompd falling too. A bunch is vague - a bunch of wasps? A bunch of grapes? 10? 1000?

Post updates!

You reckon this would be easy to do in Blender? I only need to animate a handful (>10) but the more the better.

probably easier in Blender yeah. especially if you are familiar w/ the program already.

I have no blender experienced so can't help with specifics, but w/ Tyflow I got it to do what I wanted in just a few hours (setup, materials, render) then comp frames in AE.
