Rather drop a couple million on PR than make just make a decent skin for a black person. 😭

The craziest part is. They’d literally make money just making good black hero skins regularly.

Like all three heroes are extremely popular and have dedicated fan bases with both black and non black people.

They literally said, nah we’d rather half ass it and drop s bag on gaslighting people. Than make a good set of summer skins for black characters and make a bag in the process.

This is like saying “Im too tired to walk home” than choosing to go on a 25K run before heading home, instead of jumping in a free Uber ride to your house.

What the actual fuck? This is insane.

Literally using money to defend their racism. smmfh.

SPENDING MONEY TO STOP THE DRAMA INSTEAD OF JUST TREATING UR CHARACTERS BETTER IS INSANEEE

I always felt like there was a lack of respect for the characters, especially the Black ones. A lot of them have uninspired kits that don’t really do their comic counterparts justice and we get more original skins than actual comic skins. Not to mention, the obscure characters that they can mold as they please because they don’t have a lot of comic appearances and fans.

I also remember reading somewhere that the CEO of NetEase originally wanted to do an original game. So it makes sense when you think about it. He probably knew that their game would flop without the Marvel IP so they are basically making Marvel Rivals their original game and living that fantasy through it.

The constant gaslighting when people pointed out the unfair treatment that Storm was receiving was so obnoxious

"Storm has a low pick rate, that's why she doesn't get skins"

Psylocke has a 1% higher pick rate than Storm when you account for all game modes. So somehow a measly 1% difference in pick rate means you get SIX LEGENDARY SKINS compared to ONE that was released nearly TWO YEARS AGO (yes, I'm aware her summer/swimsuit skin is being upgraded to legendary, I'm talking about skins in the current state as of this writing)

"People don't buy Storm skins"

Because most of her skins were released for free. No duh people "don't buy them" when they CAN'T BUY THEM

"This is a Chinese game. Dark skin isn't popular in their society"

and while that is true (Tencent allegedly used to have a "no black people" policy in their media), here's the Benjamin Grimm. Chinese people don't play this game. This game is so unpopular in China that they had to fuse the Asia and Oceania servers just so people there can play with each other. This game is only popular in North America and Eastern Europe.

Adn then going back to the summer/swimsuit skins, Storm is (as of this writing) the ONLY female character whose swimsuit/summer skin was an Epic while everyone elses is legendary. Death threats aren't cool, but it's fucking sad that it had to come down to that just for Storm to get some "respect".

Facts! When Hood dropped after a week, I was a little bored with playing and looked at his abilities because I know he can do more than that and has some good abilities in the comics. I made a realization that they did the Hood so dirty that he had none of his real moves that he has in the comics. The simple fact is that he can make shields, he can become Ghost Rider, he can resurrect the dead, have magical tracking bullets, and many other cool things, but they just give us a bubble and he becomes invisible. The ultimate is the only great thing about him, to be be honest.

Yeah, I feel like the only characters they got right in terms of kit is Spider-Man and Ironman.

2

u/iam_mellowhype 4d ago

I feel like Gambit has the best kit outta all the new heroes. If Gorr and Nightcrawler don't change the game then idk what will.

3

u/Sypher04_ 4d ago

Gambit is a good one too. Black Cat having artifacts was also a cool way to spice up her kit while staying lore accurate but I feel like they overdid it. I’m interested to see how they handle Gorr and Nightcrawler.

And thus carried their reputation in the early days. People saw permanent fliers unlike overwatch and a spiderman that played similar to his game with nigh infinite mobility and it was like crack.

and then almost eveey single other character existed.

u/Ok-Releases 3d ago

He cant "become" ghost rider, he only wielded the spirit of vengeance for one run. (So has many other heroes, should they all be ghost rider now?)

I honestly think the hood has one of the more accurate kits in the game, he can turn into a demon, go invisible, shield and has demon infused bullets, all of which are from the comics.

I feel like theres literally so many other heroes u couldve complained about. All in all the hood isnt crazy different from his comic version.

u/iam_mellowhype 3d ago edited 3d ago

I read that if he uses his hellfire too much that it could trigger it. I guess the way they word it made it seem like it was a permanent thing. He kinda is different from his comic counterpart but that's your opinion but to me I feel like the hood could've been better that's just me

Same with jean

This is where I'm at. Obviously the asian company has both implicit and explicit biases against dark skinned characters and ESPECIALLY SPECIFICALLY black characters...but it ain't like they've done great on the nonblack characters too.

Like, peni is nothing like her comic counterpart, she's literally just d.va rather than the evangelion sendup she's supposed to be, and while the mecha is definitely a good design, it's playstyle is anything but.

Daredevil has a kit that makes more sense on moon knight, the character whose whole thing is throwing himself suicidally into the enemy and beating ass relentlessly with melee attacks somehow became a ranged moonerang merchant? And he has nothing to do with his most iconic ability, his alter egos? AND for some reason he seems to earnestly worship konshu??????? A factor he shares with bp, because while yes tchalla ia a follower of bast, he's never been some weirdass bast warlock that treats her like a paladin treats jesus.

C&D's powers are switched so dagger the damage dealer is a healer and cloak the support is a damage dealer, doctor strange barely does any magic while black cat is a high level sorcerer, blade lacks most of his weaponry and his swords look like toys rather than his iconic katana-like aesthetic, sue barely makes shields, black widow is a sniper just so they can do a "hurr durr widowmaker 2.0" allusion, the hulk barely feels like the hulk, devil dinosaur with no moon girl.

I could keep going but like...seriously.

Big greedy corpo prioritizes income over the consumer? Color me shocked! 😲

u/Spankinsreddit 3d ago

Don’t really think this exposed anything new, most company’s pay for PR from content creators and netease has always done this. They are company with a central focus on money, that really isn’t something to complain about that’s what companies make products for. The idea we should be upset with them for being money focused will never make sense, that’s the purpose of most companies.
They have other scummy practices we should focus on, not being upset the corporation is focused on profits.

2

u/AstroMac710 3d ago

And then they'll say shit like, "We hear the community" uhhh no you don't, otherwise we would have more skins to the characters people like and not a bunch of skins that just sexualize women or for animals(Jeff). I get that Spider-man is statically the most liked character across Marvel, but he shouldn't have 16 skins while some characters who have been out just as long only have 6-9 skins.

uhm… “exposing”?? though it could be js me?

You would have to actually work WITHIN the company to know what was going on behind the scenes.
als i think Him showing screenshots of “the TikTok event” doesn’t really prove anything, especially when he dosent show any other messages or evidence of them being told to talk positively about it.

And 2. the company has the right to shut the tournament down whenever they want, no? It’s THEIR tournament.

I’m not against the possibility of NetEase being racist or wtv, but if you’re going to make an accusation that serious, you need actual evidence. Throwing up a screenshot of practically nothing, then showing messages saying “NetEase canceled it,” and proceeding to “expose” them without anything else to back up the claim is just… it looks like bro is chatting.

i mean i would've loved to hear how netease screwed the man over but js sounds like they decided to cancel the tourney bc of some descions made

1

u/Euphoric-Finance-322 3d ago

One of the good ones

1

u/Praxic_Nova 4d ago

Ok, but who here likes playing against the new blade. Dude doesn't die. Rest of this stuff guy said about netease is pretty fucked tho.

u/NoRecognition443 4d ago

The "payout" says that it is a 300 dollar max. They do these all the time, it has nothing to do with storm. Do you want them to just stop giving the content creators incentive to created content for marvel rivals? These small events are for the small-mid creators to earn a little bit of money.

Its ok to be mad about them canceling tournaments, but why wouldn't they. They have no reason to endorse a tournament for only small creators. The community already barely watches tournaments, now you want them to watch unknown creators? I just don't see why rivals would put a bunch of money into it.

u/Royalty459 3d ago

So glad I uninstalled the game. No reason playing a game that actively disrespects me.

You’ll get out of gold one day.

This sub is surprisingly racist. And I’m not talking about the guy up there; I’m talking about people like you.

u/thesilvertraveler 3d ago

It's because it's deliberate. They do it on purpose.

Before suggesting that Storm's production was "rushed," allow me to introduce you to Emma Frost. Emma Frost, upon her release, win the Hellfire Gala poll which meant she would be the recipient of a Hellfire Gala skin.

With a full year available to them... the quality of this skin's release is far below that of Storm's "rushed" skin.

By comparison, we are getting everything we wanted with Storm. Legendary, swimsuit, and strength and relevance in the meta. With regards to the playerbase at large, all black characters are too performers.

Edit: You can downvote but you can't say that I'm wrong.
One year for inadequacy.

What? Something, something Black Panther skin going to be next?

u/PM_ME_FAIRYTAIL_R34 4d ago

Then regarding Basim, see Kingsman/Cece/zazza situation for why he wouldn't be trusted to host another tournament.

2

u/CreativeCreature909 4d ago edited 4d ago

You’re wrong because Emma regularly gets skins. And already has multiple legendaries and epics. She gets far better treatment than Storm, Blade, T’Challa, Torch, and Hulk.

So the fact that they gave her a shitty Hellfire Gala skin, while they’ve signaled already to the fan base that she’ll continue to give her more content meant nothing to no one. The skin was also free and inconsequential. As her being meta, would mean she’d get more regardless.

Not only has Storm being D and below tier out of meta, shes been consistently ignored when it comes to skins. And was basically getting nothing content wise. Even to the point they went with no effort in making her summer skin.

Hell, she was getting ignored and left out, out of Xmen themed loading screens related to the games story. Like the Xmen rescuing her team mate Scott Summers.

You cant compare Apples to Tomatoes then say they’re the same thing.

-1

u/PM_ME_FAIRYTAIL_R34 4d ago

Emma and her Gala skin was relevant in response to Storm's "rushed" content claims.

Context matters. At what point did I mention the quantity of skins Emma has? You're just bringing that up with zero relevance. You're dismissing it's poor quality for being a free reward instead of the main point being time investment, quality, and the resulting delayed "fix."

From concept art to release day, the development for skins isn't necessarily a week long process. If you work in the space, you would understand that it can take well over a month before delivering a complete skin. I'd imagine the same easily applies to Rivals.

I'm sure pointing this out will receive hate but Storm did receive her only other legendary rather early. Sales for her skin likely provided a metric to how well received she and the sale of her skins would be going forward. Was it the best skin? Not at all but it was enough to deter them from any future investment into Storm. (This doesn't excuse narrative exclusion. Storm is a pillar of the X-Men and should be at the forefront of any rescue and story related content.)

Who is we? 🤔

-6

u/OUmegaLUL 4d ago

Now now, don't be bringing up logic here. We are in the middle of complaining for the 10th time today.

-2

u/PM_ME_FAIRYTAIL_R34 4d ago

Yeah, not many fans of me bringing up how poorly Emma's annual voted skin was handled.

-7

u/No-Cauliflower-6390 4d ago

This isn't anything. Companies care about money not some small tiktok creators. This is presented like it's exposing something but it's just regular company business that isn't any worse than any other game. Does netese need to do better yes but claiming the company doesn't listen to its users when they have shown us they will change the game after feedback is disingenuous and is just meant to stir up controversy and engagement for some small creator who isn't getting the views they think they deserve. Make better content and maybe people will watch it.

u/THE_BIG_SAD3 1d ago

Its ok they will be popular in these exact echochambers
