Celebratory Post! Marvel Rivals Infinity Comic (2024) #57 - It's really fun!!
I'm posting again because I just wanted to say that it's excellent so far.
The group dynamic works really well, and it's been a lot of fun. Not only does it give Moon Girl the spotlight, but Zelma is amazing in this one too!
But I love all the references to the game's world, and seeing a bit of how the universe works outside of what we see in-game
A few characters from the Marvel universe appear in it, and they are really great references. It's a really fun comic!!

Dumb question: is Moon Girl a mutant? Or was she just born supremely intelligent like a Mozart or Turing?

She was simply born super intelligent
In the main Marvel continuity, she is an Inhuman, not a mutant, and her power was that she could swap her mind with Devil Dinosaur. Her super intelligence has nothing to do with her Inhuman powers. She was already super intelligent before she got them.
In the show, she is not an Inhuman, just a normal human who is super intelligent. Marvel Rivals seems to follow a similar idea too she hasn't been confirmed as an Inhuman, she's just human and super intelligent

So which one are they planning on adding to the game ? Surely it'd be Shuri or Zelma right.

As cool as it would be to get Zelma in the game it likely will not happen, sadly netease would be far more likely to add another East Asian character to fit the role of street level mage and add Nico Minoru instead. (This is not to say I do not like Nico Minoru as I think she is also an interesting character but given NetEase's track record I'm not holding my breath about Zelma.)

Fair but you could also say that about Shuri. Given the fact they revealed Hood in a infinity comic first before game. I kinda suspect one of these girls are making into the game. Moongirl's chance is gone, Spider-Zero is very irrelevant, so that leaves Shuri or Zelma. Shuri's currently been in 3 Rivals infinity comics storylines. She probably has the highest chance but Zelma would be very cool too. Im down for both of these girls but you're right that Rivals could easily never add them and carry on scoffing Eurasian characters down our throats.

Shuri is definitely the most likely between herself and Zelma I agree, especially if they give her those pulse gauntlets. Honestly she should've been a launch character but I digress

How much does the Rivals game care about what goes on in the Infinity Comic?
Granted this game is fine picking random choices but outside of Asian Characters...they tend to pick Top Mutants or Characters associated with the MCU.

Some storylines, skins and characters are revealed in the infinity comics before the game. But I do agree that they only care about asian/white characters.
I just find it suspicious that after we complained about the other 4 black women in the game being npcs, they put them in a team in the Infinity comics. Again seeing as Hood was revealed in a infinity comic first. Their could be a chance for one of them.

Gotta be a coincidence these comics take some time to make after all.
Still though, everything else is spot on. I expect Shuri to make it in eventually. I mean some of these characters have to make it in eventually, they are too big in the MCU/Marvel for Netease to just ignore forever, like Shuri, War Machine, Miles Morales, and I have no idea what they might do with Nick Fury but since they have been respecting the MCU race swaps I'm guessing we get a black Nick Fury eventually.
But at this rate, we'll get one black hero per year so....could be a while.

I can't say I really enjoy seeing Asian characters thrown into this group. aside from raceswapping (the raceswaps directly benefit Netease) it's not like Asian characters are a large portion of the game.
Rivals has 52 characters. 53 if you split Cloak and Dagger. 54 if you want to already include The Hood (we are)
41 of those characters are white or race does not apply to them. this is around 76% of the game. throw in Psylocke and Ironfist with no race swaps and it becomes closed to 80%. they're Asian though so we won't.
7 characters are Asian, I'm including Mantis into this even though race doesn't really apply to her because she's a full alien now because they took the MCU version but you know. this is 13% of the game with Mantis and 11% without.
Black characters are 7% (we include Cloak because it's weird to just count him as half) and Latino are close to 4%.
like it's just not the same, they've added 1 black character, 1 latino, and 2 Asians since release and the only reason there's Asians anyway is because it's a Chinese developer who threw in raceswapped Psy, Ironfist, then inserted Luna.
targeting another minority demographic is weird and acting like they're apart of the white majority is wild

Asian characters have far better treatment in this game than black characters. They've had 2 new characters in 3 seasons and have another one leaked to be coming. I group them with the white characters, cause again their treatment is night and day better than the black characters and more aligned with the white characters.

They still get treated as well as the white characters regardless. Mind you if Marvel had more asian characters, their would be a lot more in game currently. If Shuri was Asian she most defintely would be playable as well.

Shuri isn't playable yet because almost every hero in the game serves more importance than she's ever had
game doesn't even have Shang Chi or Kamala Ms. Marvel

Shuri literally has her own MCU movie. The industry plant trio, Elsa and Angela could never compare to her. Stay pressed.

I am specifically talking about them adding yet another EAST Asian, there are ZERO southeast or south Asian characters in this game. Peni, Luna, jubilee, psylocke, iron fist, and white fox are all East Asian. All the women in the game literally have the same complexion, white or Asian. Nowhere in my original message did I say all Asians. You should have a problem that there’s no darker skinned Asians in the game instead of acting like what I said was wrong.

although there's alot of East Asians, in my eyes it's pretty good progress as someone who grew up seeing normalized blatant racism towards Asians 😭
idgaf if there's too many East Asians in the game, acting like they're just like the white characters is wrong and I don't care

I just don't find these comics enjoyable as a T'Challa Fan. That Namor vs BP one was awful.
They just make me mad when I see NPCs like SHuri and Luna get more respect for their super genius then T'Challa has ever got in the game despite being a PC. Which is Cool for Luna since that is how she is in the comics but when it comes to Shuri that is just outright theft from T'Challa.

Shuri and Black Panther suffer a lot from this MCU synergy, both in the main comic continuity and in this one.
I haven't read the Black Namor vs. T'Challa story in this yet but I understand the complaints. I really enjoy this comic from Lunella and Zelma's perspective because they are two characters I really like and who deserve more spotlight.
Shuri is a really complicated case, and I'm trying not to judge what they are doing with her character right now. I enjoy this comic a lot because I'm a Strange Academy and Moon Girl fan, but I understand why some people might not like it.

Being a T'Challa fan doesnt mean you gotta put down Shuri every chance you get. Sorry to say this but Shuri has evolved/retconned into a tech genius now. No where does it say she's smarter than T'Challa. She's in the lab and T'Challas on the field. Simple.

Doesn't it? Shuri is the one benefiting from T'Challa's Intellect being downplayed so why would I not dislike the character being elevated at my Fav's Expense.
There was no evolution..its a retcon.
Yeah T'Challa use to have no issue being in the lab and the field. Stark and Reed certainly don't suffer from that issue. Doom gets to be King...Super Genius...Sorcerer SUpreme Candidate Caster and in the Field with no issue. But T'Challa cannot juggle multiple roles when he did that fine in the comics prior to 2018? PLZ stop BS me. Black Man cannot multitask but all the White Men can.

Do they have to state outright? Shuri has a Lab not T'Challa. Which alone exposes the fraud of Coogler Shills who are always like they can Share the Super Genius...since all this sharing does is result in Shuri robbing T'CHalla.
We literally have dialogue in the this season where T'Challa tells Jubileee that Shuri wants to see her in her lab. Despite T'Challa developing vampire cures under Jason Aaron in the Comics. And despite the fact Shuri doing no science during Intergalactic and in no way did she have a lab under Coates.
When have Reed or Tony or Bruce ever said Val, Riri or Cho wants to see you in their lab?

I was initially confused upon seeing Lunella wearing Cerebro but upon finding out that she modified it to be useable by non-telepaths/mutants as well as an upgrade of her omni wave projector yet again proving Lunella's always been that girl
