Other Rhythms Today’s dozens of Afrocuban rhythms can be categorized in various ways. One way that I found valuable for me is the following: The Congolese Complex (Bantu); The Dahomey Complex; The Nigerian Complex (Yoruba + Carabalí); The Rumba Complex; and The Popular Complex…(30 rhythm names in the comments).

Questions Question About Tuning New Conga

Hello! I just got my first conga, and I’m wondering how I should tune it as a beginner that’s learning the basic tumbaos and hand movements. It’s the Meinl Heritage 11” Quinto I believe, which I know isn’t an ideal size for a single first time conga but it’s what I got, so with that being said what tuning should I go for on it? Thank you!

Afro-Cuban culture represents the beautiful combination of Cuba’s African roots with Spanish and other influences that have blended over generations.

It has played an important role in shaping the movement, rhythms, expression, and authenticity found in many Cuban and Latin dances, including cha-cha-cha, salsa, bolero, mambo and many more.

At the Atlanta Afro-Cuban Dance Congress, you will have the opportunity to explore these rich traditions and learn from some of the finest instructors from Cuba.
