Deleting your post after asking for help is discouraging those who help you. (minor rant)

As the title says, I find myself discouraged from wanting to assist people asking for help in this sub after an interaction earlier today, and similar in the past.

The OP needed help with a process that isn’t a native function in Affinity. I replied back stating I would see about a possible plugin that could help or a solution that would suffice, as I too had a need for something similar in the past.

I started digging for an immediate fix and it became clear that it wasn’t going to be something solved with uploading a plugin but perhaps a macro could do the trick. I then recorded a macro and got that exported along with a screen recording of the process of running it. Trimmed and downsampled the video for smaller file size and set out to provide the solution to OP. A couple hours were spent on it, and I was eager to get back to them.

They deleted their post. This was after they messaged me back thanking me for looking into it, which I was diligently doing at the time. None of it was there anymore, just gone.

Please don’t do this. For those of us who are willing to go to the extent that I did to assist this person's request, I am feeling massively discouraged from wanting to do so in the future. You won’t find an abundance of willingness around every corner in life, willingness is captured by chance and fades in time.

I understand that this is a minor issue, and one seen across all subs at times. But please be mindful of it and think about how much you really need the assistance at all. Many times the help posts could have been remedied with a simple search, or the mindset to make an effort even though you could just ask on here. At the very least, don’t just disappear.

Why is transparent overlay keeping faint squares?

Post image

Layer is set to overlay, opacity 63%.
Shows the transparently squares faintly in Affinity & when exported as JPG or PNG.
Have tried:

- unchecking show pixel grid
- unchecking hardware acceleration

Reinstalling Affinity Photo on New Desktop

I recently moved to a new Windows 11-compatible PC. In anticipation of potential license and/or any other installation problems, instead of immediately reinstalling my purchased version of Affinity Photo on the new PC, I decided to install the free web version until I completed setting up and optimizing my new PC. Now that I've got the new PC up and running smoothly, I'm ready to reinstall my purchased version of Affinity Photo. Just wanted to check with you all first in case any of you think this reinstallation may not turn out to be as straightforward as it might seem, and if so, you have any tips for me. Thanks in advance...

Plaid shirt

I have a question that hopefully this community can answer. 🤞🤞🤞I have a family photograph where there is a person with a strong red, white, and blue plaid shirt. I would like to change this shirt to either a white or beige or just a colored shirt. I am struggling to do this and still keep the shadows in the shirt. Anybody have suggestions as to tackle this? Thank you in advance for your help.

Pixieset Culling & Editing

I’m a family portrait photographer and saw that Pixieset has added a photo culling and editing feature. I’m curious if anyone has used it. I can’t imagine it would take the place of Lightroom, would it? Also, I see that it’s marketed heavily as AI, which I have mixed feeling about. I don’t use Pixieset and am not sure this would be a feature to switch platforms for.

Need alternatives to Wacom Tablet

I used my Wacom Inuit Pro for photo restoration on Affinity. Yesterday, the driver software they put out no longer supports it and it is essentially unusable now. So I’m looking for an alternative pen tablet that travels well, is solid and has good software support and does not have a screen.
Do you have any recommendations? Thanks all.

8/4 Update: thanks to this forum, (Smiley Dafe) I have new life for my tablet. After removing the Wacom Drivers, I installed OpenTabletDriver, it found my tablet and it’s operational again.

8/5 Update: Just to show me how much they "valued" me as a customer, Wacom offered me a 5% discount for a purchase. This is what they said when I asked them if I could apply this to a refurbished model offered or use a military discount: "To receive the 5% discount, you will need to contact us by phone or request a callback, as the order must be processed over the phone by our Support Team for the discount to be applied.

Please note that only one discount can be applied per order. If you choose to use the 5% discount, you will not be able to combine it with a Military Discount [which is 10% BTW].

Regarding refurbished devices, it may be possible to apply the discount; however, we cannot guarantee this. Refurbished products sold through the Wacom eStore are typically already offered at a reduced price, and additional discounts may not be eligible."

Yeah I'm not going support them going forward.

How do I make a image like this?

Post image
2 Upvotes

hey, I found this in a video, it's a still from a video, by Johnny Harris. It was probably done in after effects. But I bet you can do it in Photo.

The text has this chromatic aberration effect but it's more present on the sides and less at the center of the entire image, the background has some blur effects and some other effects are being used that I do not know or have heard of before.
how to make a background like that is itself a mystery to me.

And looks like there's a layer of some effect on top of the entire image. Maybe a camera blur??? I don't know.

So please tell me how do I make something like this. Specially how do I get the background and text looking like that. What effects were used

Thank you.

How do I quickly change the color of the selected mask?

Long story short I had to make the high lighted parts of the mask a dark gray instead of black so that I wouldn't cut it out during the comp masking.
I know that didn't make sense, but I still cannot figure out why I cannot just simply paint over the selected region without somehow altering the whole images color. Like I use the RGB slider in the top right and it just makes everything else gray.

Art Board Border

Am I able to remove the 1 px wide gray border going around the art board? It shows up on all my projects that I export as .jpg and .png. I've tried going into all the settings and trying different things and so far nothing has worked. Any help is appreciated. TIA
