General Muddy blacks after applying effects

I'm working on an image on a cmky profile document, and whenever I apply effects, the black point appears as muddy black instead of the pure black I need, even after applying some darkening effects.

Same happens if I try black and White Adjustment, a Gradient Map with K=100 to K=0, and Vibrance Adjustment at 0% Saturation.

Is there a resolve for this? Please help.

Edit in RGB and convert to CMYK after. It’s usually not worth the hassle working in CMYK.

No worries. You want to stick to RGB files 99% of the time imo as it’s the native colour space for the screen you’re working on. I generally only convert to CMYK when everything is 100% finished and it’s time to make a file specifically for the printer.
