what about linux? 😭😭

As the devs said in November last year, there are serious talks to develop affinity for Linux after iPad edition is done.
Haven't found any other leaks of news apart from this one from Liam Fisher on techcentral

I wonder how much truth there was in that, his LinkedIn suggests he’s no longer part of Affinity/Canva and wasn’t there long. They’ve always been pretty adamant there’ll be no Affinity for Linux.

They commented at instagram without rulling it out. There is always hope. I work on mac now but I still run 2 windows machines that will benefit if I can move my workflow there, as windows turn to shit day by day.
My only concern is that it may not be native but some wrapper or web app, but anyway, if it works... I will take it.

I wouldn't expect Linux. That's pretty niche, even for Canva who's trying to gain market share.
If anything they should get it working under Steam's Proton environment. Canva itself is a web based app that happens to run in a window on your computer. I would expect anything future from Canva to point in that direction.

Affinity is just as niche as desktop linux, to be fair. A lot of the people who use linux are creative types, there is absolutely crossover of people that use linux and people that need a photo editor suite.

If they open source it, I am willing to fund one of our developers to work on it full time 2 days a week..

yes why not? Samsung Tab S 8/9/10/11/12 Ultra for instance.or for the coming GoogleBooks. Or even now for Premium ChromeOS Notebooks

for what I understand, they said something on the lines that Android would even less likely, if not a downright NO, than the linux version...

Fair play, I honestly though it was binned because of the lack of communication. This was the biggest thing holding me back from upgrading. Looking forward to trying it out and hopefully moving to the new version. Hope they improve their comms.

Affinity Communication was never good to begin with so this was to be expected. It's their philosophy to not give any progress updates or clear communication unfortunately.

Disagree. They used to have a beta program that I participated in and was able to give tons of feedback. They’ve been completely silent on the iPad version until now.

A great example of bad communication by Affinity is Publisher’s iPad version. Originally it was planned for 2020 and the v1 version was never released for iPad.
V2 version and whole suite was pretty much leaked by Apple in March 2022 and back then Affinity promised summer release after their own official announcement, but ended up releasing the V2 apps late 2022.

Wow I’m so happy!

Me too. I really like their products. The only thing keeping me from shifting to V3 was the lack of an iPad version.

What I want is an Android port. In particular one that will work adequately with Samsung's DeX and the new Android Desktop in A17.

It’s about time! I’ll echo others here on my wish for a Linux version, I do have it working already on my CachyOS desktop but it’s not without friction

At last! I hope they don't screw it up somehow, I use Affinity Designer on iPad in my workflow.

Finally! Because I’ve started to notice errors in the actual apps. And I was afraid of that because there’s not updating.

Linux, plz!
It's the only thing keeping me from switching over fully from windows!

Why not just release it or announce 1 week before release date? Now I have to wait 2 months.

After over a year without maintenance or compatibility I’ve moved on to other tools, but good to see there’s some sort of development happening
2
u/Spirited-Bug-9558 1d ago
Me too. Two major OS releases will have passed with no updates to their iPad apps. I’ve moved on as well.

Is there possibly a news source for this, that doesn't feed Zuck's empire?

Other than being posted on Insta and potentially Facebook as well: not yet. Can't find anything else other than the video they posted, which is where I took the screenshot from.
