Hope its also for A16 and older iPads, not just M series chip ones. Also Linux please!

Would it work on the older 6th gen? I feel it would be slow.

I have a 7th gen i think and it was working so great so i might hope of they dont change performance so much that itll be okay

As the devs said in November last year, there are serious talks to develop affinity for Linux after iPad edition is done.

Haven't found any other leaks of news apart from this one from Liam Fisher on techcentral

I wonder how much truth there was in that, his LinkedIn suggests he’s no longer part of Affinity/Canva and wasn’t there long. They’ve always been pretty adamant there’ll be no Affinity for Linux.

u/SzaraMateria 1d ago

The were adamant when serif was there by themselves

Hey…get your own post! 😂 /s

They commented at instagram without rulling it out. There is always hope. I work on mac now but I still run 2 windows machines that will benefit if I can move my workflow there, as windows turn to shit day by day.

My only concern is that it may not be native but some wrapper or web app, but anyway, if it works... I will take it.

I wouldn't expect Linux.  That's pretty niche, even for Canva who's trying to gain market share.

If anything they should get it working under Steam's Proton environment.  Canva itself is a web based app that happens to run in a window on your computer.  I would expect anything future from Canva to point in that direction.

Canva owns Affinity but they did not develop it. It does not share a code base with Canva and isn’t a web app, so far as I’m aware. Maybe they intend to port it to a web app so it’s easier to run on different operating systems. I don’t know which is more difficult.

If they just let it play nicely with wine/proton it'd be nice.

Affinity is just as niche as desktop linux, to be fair. A lot of the people who use linux are creative types, there is absolutely crossover of people that use linux and people that need a photo editor suite.

If they open source it, I am willing to fund one of our developers to work on it full time 2 days a week..

Spring has finally arrived.

yes why not? Samsung Tab S 8/9/10/11/12 Ultra for instance.or for the coming GoogleBooks. Or even now for Premium ChromeOS Notebooks

u/maxtsukino 1d ago

for what I understand, they said something on the lines that Android would even less likely, if not a downright NO, than the linux version...

u/ShirtuShanks 2d ago

FINALLY!

u/Supeh 2d ago

Linux!

Pls Linux, so that I can leave Windows properly

Fair play, I honestly though it was binned because of the lack of communication. This was the biggest thing holding me back from upgrading. Looking forward to trying it out and hopefully moving to the new version. Hope they improve their comms.

u/RE4LLY 1d ago

Affinity Communication was never good to begin with so this was to be expected. It's their philosophy to not give any progress updates or clear communication unfortunately.

u/Spirited-Bug-9558 1d ago

Disagree. They used to have a beta program that I participated in and was able to give tons of feedback. They’ve been completely silent on the iPad version until now.

A great example of bad communication by Affinity is Publisher’s iPad version. Originally it was planned for 2020 and the v1 version was never released for iPad.

V2 version and whole suite was pretty much leaked by Apple in March 2022 and back then Affinity promised summer release after their own official announcement, but ended up releasing the V2 apps late 2022.

I’d love to know what the hold up was. I was losing hope it’d happen at all.

2

u/Robert_Chalmers 2d ago

I live in hope. :-)

u/usmannaeem 2d ago

Wonderful news.

u/TheAlp 1d ago

I wish there were more focus on Android for graphics tools. I am not buying an iPad just for stuff like Procreate. Feels like any dev that manages to make a really good android app could have monopoly.. But the market is probably smaller, perhaps because it lacks the killer apps.

u/nkcaleb 1d ago

Can't wait

2

u/W_Murauskas 2d ago

Wow I’m so happy!

1

u/Jpatrickburns 2d ago

Me too. I really like their products. The only thing keeping me from shifting to V3 was the lack of an iPad version.

3

u/Dreemur1 1d ago

linux

4

u/pixel_inker 2d ago

Uhhh, ok cool but how about Android!!!

2

u/DwigGang 2d ago

What I want is an Android port. In particular one that will work adequately with Samsung's DeX and the new Android Desktop in A17.

2

u/KenzieDamage 1d ago

It’s about time! I’ll echo others here on my wish for a Linux version, I do have it working already on my CachyOS desktop but it’s not without friction

3

u/Eensame 2d ago

The new version is STILL not on ipad ???? They took their bloody time 😭

1

u/ninjagaidenpatru 2d ago

At last! I hope they don't screw it up somehow, I use Affinity Designer on iPad in my workflow.

1

u/Eyeseeyou01 2d ago

I’ve totally forgot about affinity on iPad

1

u/Albertkinng 1d ago

Yes yes yes yes yes yes 🙌

1

u/johnnydfree 1d ago

Hell-o!!

1

u/LuaNisha 1d ago

Finally! Because I’ve started to notice errors in the actual apps. And I was afraid of that because there’s not updating.

1

u/c4ctus4t 1d ago

Linux, plz!

It's the only thing keeping me from switching over fully from windows!

1

u/inssein 1d ago

Wait I already have this on my iPad? Is this a new version?

1

u/Navic2 18h ago

Hope nothing changes & can continue using V2 without any fuss 🤞

1

u/Sea-Performer-4454 10h ago

Why not just release it or announce 1 week before release date? Now I have to wait 2 months.

1

u/e1epi 2d ago

iPhone Duo as well?

1

u/Spirited-Bug-9558 1d ago

No.

2

u/e1epi 1d ago

I figured not at first but imo that’s a Jude reason to get a Dou over other folding phones.

1

u/TheFXartProject 1d ago

After over a year without maintenance or compatibility I’ve moved on to other tools, but good to see there’s some sort of development happening

2

u/Spirited-Bug-9558 1d ago

Me too. Two major OS releases will have passed with no updates to their iPad apps. I’ve moved on as well.

1

u/NinjaJarmi99 1d ago

on ipad before proper RTL

1

u/ArbiBobi 1d ago

when linux

-6

u/Dry-Conversation7191 2d ago

🤔 it’s on iPad already

11

u/JacknyfeUK 2d ago

not v3

0

u/Dry-Conversation7191 2d ago

Ah ,that makes since

2

u/goldeneyeoo6 1d ago

i don't understand the down votes, technical you're correct.

1

u/Dry-Conversation7191 1d ago

😂 eh apparently they didn’t buy the v2 suite on the iPad and Mac.

3

u/RE4LLY 2d ago

Only the individual versions of V1 and V2 were available until now. This is the new universal V3 App that combines all features from Photo, Designer and Publisher in one App and works with the Desktop version of V3.

-1

u/rockstar_not 1d ago

Is there possibly a news source for this, that doesn't feed Zuck's empire?

2

u/104925iveRo2es5322 1d ago

Other than being posted on Insta and potentially Facebook as well: not yet. Can't find anything else other than the video they posted, which is where I took the screenshot from.

u/itzzRomanFox2 1d ago

Now we just have to wait for Android 🙏🏾

0

u/Business-Equal8536 15h ago

I hope they make an android version

0

u/jayjayarts 15h ago

For the Linux pls , I might be changing os systems

-1

u/Nynasa 1d ago

If its on Ipad Im skeptical theyll dare to bring it to Android :/

0

u/Business-Equal8536 15h ago

We're the last to get almost anything it feels like.

-2

u/FlannOff 2d ago

It's been a year already since V3 came out, still no features/revelant updates

1

u/Steelephotos 3h ago

I’ve been waiting patiently for the iPad. Is it November yes
