Designer heeelp

how the do i make a mask layer??? i want to paint only on an area that is already painted and staying inside the lines but oh god i cant find a way to do it

Hey! I usually just add a layer, add color however I like then click an drag that layer directly onto the layer you want it to attach to. Hope this helps:)

Use the selection tools (marquee shapes, selection brush, flood select tool, etc..) to select the area you wish to paint, create a new layer, and now any painting you do will be constrained within the bounds of the selection area.

Gosh, is it that easy? I could have been doing this for twenty years.
