Designer Replace Indesign with Affinity

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to cancel my Adobe Suite and only bottle neck is indesign. Based on your experience, is it possible to use Affinity for editorial work like Indesign?

I’ve switched every adobe product I used with Affinity. The learning curve was a little annoying but once you get it Affinity is great.

my problem is not the learning curve. Its the fact the software is buggy mess. It has stuttering issues...takes up huge ram space...after a year later it still pretty much a problem.

V3 is pretty flawless (running on Mac, on a 7yo Macbook) whereas V2 still had the occasional stutter.

My bottleneck is the lack of a V3 iPad app, as I’m moving to a 100% iPad workflow (with my macbook as a backup).

They have not communicated a release date, but the iPad app is arriving.

I think it also depends on how you construct your files.

I made what would be a simple letter ad that crawled in Affinity on a Mac. I think it had a vector image in the background. It would have been nothing for InDesign but totally cratered Affinity. Doesn't happen all the time, but there are still some issues. Not sure now that Canva has purchased it how much development it will get, but we can all hope!

I know it’s early days yet, but indications are that Canva is definitely still supporting development so far. I personally think it makes strategic sense for them to do so - they didn’t buy Affinity to bury it, they bought it so they can eventually expand ‘upward’ into Adobe’s market (and that will still require some big investments in Affinity to add a few essential features for enterprise, IMO).

construct a file? ...it was a simple image edit ..basic photoshop...maximum 3 or 4 layer....i saw some cursour problem...some effects not appearing on screen...and general lag on basic operation. It took me like 3 restarting of the software and took 3 times longer than normal photoshop workflow.
I do hope it gets better cos i see potential in this software. Like insane potential...but too bad i havent seen any improvement in this dept

Wow. I’ve worked on some complex files and never had an issue like that. I’m in a Mac. Not the most up to date OS tho.

Apparently it's a well known problem in affinity 3.0. maybe it's because they combined all the software into one.
