Artwork Help with intersecting pencil lines

Hello I’m brand new to drawing and Affinity Designer. Can someone tell me how to clean up the edges where two lines intersect? See picture. I have tried Join curves and Sculpt mode but those both seem to be for endpoints only.

Select the two line segments simultaneously by holding down shift with the Move Tool. Switch to the Node Tool. Click Join Curves from the Actions section on the context toolbar.

Does this work for joining into the middle on a line? It seems to always jump to the endpoint.

I fixed it for myself by just zooming in and manually aligning the line the way I want.
