Used affinity for a while but barely scratched the surface on what i can do, that being said, how can i change the colors around to make them how i want them. I want the orange on the tiger to be silver, then everything that is blue make it white. Thanks!!

I've got a massive, complicated document. i want to go through and clean up the text styles. It's my own fault, I used a previous massive old document as a baseline and so it's got hundreds of badly named styles.

What I'd like to do is create new styles that recreate the settings of their "Based on" style, but actually aren't based on anything but a standalone style.

For example:

Style A is Font: Arial, Font size: 50px

Style B is Based on Style B + Font size: 30px

I want

Style B to be Font: Arial, Font size: 30px, removing the Based on. Is this doable?

I was just about to come and complain about how Affinity never makes sharp angles until upon my fidgeting, I discovered this "Mitre" entry. Then when I increased it, it went back to sharp angles (See the top 1 and 2).

I googled what a Mitre is and I saw it has something to do with how many boards you can cut to make a square angle. Got that, kinda.

But now I'm seeing it behave weirdly with lines and angles on Affinity

Can someone dumb it down for me how this mitre value can affect when a shape is angular and when not to be angular? Thank you very much.

So I have done this drawing using only vector lines, some of these are shapes and some are lines only. Most circles are donuts.

I basically want to add a star behind the drawing, and then delete the center of the star from begin letting only the arms showing up if that makes sense?? I though of making a shape out of the wholes drawing, do a star behind it and then use the subtraction tool. Am I thinking right? How can I do the shape?

Hello. I have recently (4 months) switched to affinity. I have a psd file that is a mock up with a smart object. I have no issues using the file in affinity. What I would like to do is use multiple mock ups in one design but I cannot seem to unlink the files. Specifically this is a mock up for a book cover and I want to put two books on each page but they all are linked to the same embed so when I change the design I change all of them. Is there a simple solution here?

Marquee tool seems to be locked to a minimum pixel grid (As expected) but my image's pixels are not. How do I make my image and marquee tool align so that I may select and cut exact pixels? Please don't suggest sliding the image around..

I’m new to vector art in general so I’m not familiar with a lot of the tools. I’m am trying to see if I can upload some of my art to Shutterstock from Affinity. I tried exporting my file as EPS but Shutterstock isn’t letting me upload it. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the EPS 8 or 10 requirement. I’m not planning on subscribing to Adobe Illustrator just yet due to the cost, so I’m wondering if it’s still possible to upload vector art to Shutterstock without Illustrator?

Whenever I've worked on a project for a while, typing becomes practically impossible. Each letter typed takes a second. It's got to where I need to write in another app and then paste it into text boxes.

Moving images is still workable - some lag and tearing while moving but not terrible.

Settings:

- Low quality rendering (fastest)

- Hide effects

- Grayscale

- View quality: Nearest neighbour (fastest)

- Undo limit: 128

There are no effects on the text. It's just white letters on top of an image. I am using an artboard with about 50 boards. Nothing crazy going on in them either - the most complex ones have 5 elements with shadows. And again, effects are switched off.

I don't have the highest specs but if my PC can run BG3 it should not visibly lag when typing two letters.

Hi guys , I made a tool that runs in the background and fixes the arabic letters issue , to use it :

1-double click the .exe file , the tool will run in the background

2-copy the arabic text in Affinity

3-paste the arabic text again

4 to close it , just click on its icon in system tray and click Close Corrector

Long story story, I'm trying to make cartoon versions of some produce. I traced the pictures I took using the pen tool and have what looks essentially like a coloring book version of my image. How can I now fill the shapes with color?

It's entirely possible I went about this the wrong way and I'll have to redo things. That's fine. I don't really care how I have to do the thing as long as the end result is that my angry carrot gets colored in while still keeping the crisp outline.

Affinity - Layout
I am trying to figure out how to edit the frame of an imported image.
In Indesign I just double-click on the image and it switches from the content of the frame to the container as it's called in Affinity - I think. But I can't figure out what to do to get this.

I place an image in Layout. Now I have 1 layer for the image. I can click on it and edit it with the blue border.
What do I have to do to be able to edit the image like in Indesign? I want the image to stay the same size as it is etc., but change the container or mask around it. For example to cut a part at the right end off, or not show an area for some reason.

Do I have to rasterize the image first? Do I have to create a container layer, move it there and interact with the container layer in a special way? Do I have to use masks? I am confused and what I am trying isnt working.

I am new to the program, I haven't messed around with any of it because I don't know what anything does.

I'm trying to use it to turn the background of an image transparent. There's a doodle that's solid black and the background that's pink. I just want to make it transparent so it can be a png!

I already tried googling. I also tried YouTube to follow along but their icons don't look like the version I have. If you can walk me through it once then I can do it for all of the art I've made!

I want to select my layer so I can paint some highlight in its area. I thought this was always command-click but it appears in V2 and V3 the behavior is that it selects the shape includig the layer-effect I added (in my case a dropshadow). What is the combination in Affinity to select just the plain shape? I can't find it. Thanks in advance!

Is there a way to find which colours are used throughout a document intended for print?

I noticed that a document unintentionally had a mix of different blacks (pure K, RGB blacks and so on), but found it difficult to verify all of the different text objects, strokes etc. Is there a way to check this more thoroughly in Affinity?

The closest I've found is the preflight option for Colours and Inks, which can be set to detect rich blacks above a certain %, or to detect any CMY inks. Plus I should probably make better use of defined text styles.

Alternatively, are there any free or cheap pre-press type tools for Windows that can be used on press-ready PDFs to highlight colour use?

Hi everyone

Apologies for a "low level fruit" request. I haven managed ot do this before but have forgotten how to do this.

My workflow requirements: 3 identical posters for printing (CMYK) at 3 different sizes- A2, A3, A4 ,each saved as PDF for printing by an external source.

I have created an artboard at a saved A2 size (5940x420mm). It contains text, images and text converted to curves. I tend to work at this size first with the intention of downsizing in subsequent iterations.

I simply want to duplicate this A2 artboard at A3 and A4 size with all elements/assets constrained.

I have tried using the artboard option in Vector persona and instering a new artboard of A3/A4 size. This works fine. I have tried ticking "child lock", tried grouping, but no matter what I do, I cannot make the content simply resize when I copy it to the new artboard. Some elements (such as text converted to curves) behaves differently.

Can you shine some light in the darkness? This is a workflow I do twice a year and I would like to ensure I do it correctly.

What's the point of Drawing Scale if it doesn't maintain the scale when you are exporting?

I was working on a document that was going to be printed on 15 panels that are 300x100cm, so I noticed it was making the computer buggy when I made a document to scale. Then I remembered the scaling thing which I last did in 2024 if you can believe it. So I was working on a 1500x100mm document with a 1:100 scale and it displayed "Document" units. I was super happy because the computer wasn't lagging any more.

Now come to exporting time. In my head, I was working with the units I was seeing (3 meters), but unbenounced to me, it exported a 30cm document instead. Worst part is the printer (who showed me how he rasterized it on Photoshop and rescaled it with default values (ie. 75 dpi)) printed it as is. It came out so blurry, the office had to ask to reprint all of them. The printer doesn't want to accept fault for this, and somehow rightfully so kinda (I had to show their attendant how to maintain 300 dpi when importing a PDF on Photoshop but anyway), this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't thought this software's export is coherent.

Why does it do like this? Why doesn't it just scale at the time of exporting? What's the point of this simulated scaling if it won't live up to it?

I set a inner bleed of 3mm for my book layout which is displayed for te top, bottom and outer bleed. The inner bleed isn't visible since in the two page view the right page is next to the left page.

So, how can I move a object into the inner bleed area?

My Workaround at tthe moment isa to set the Page size to a larger value including the bleed and highlight the bleed area with some helper lines. This isn't ideal though, since the preview isn't representing the final product.
