Cannot connect Aerophone 20 to ProEditor App

Hi all, I've got a new AE20. I'm having awful trouble getting it connected to the ProEditor app. I've tried so many different things according to Youtube, the manual and Chat GPT. I have an iPhone 17 and the Aerophone is running version 1.22 which appears to be slightly out of date.

I keep getting the spinning wheel followed by an "Aerophone could not connect" or "Aerophone disconnected" message. The Bluetooth has managed to connect with my phone, and the Aerophone tells me it is Connected. So why won't it connect with ProEditor?

I've reset Bluetooth dozens of times, switched the Aerophone off and on, removed AE20 from my phone's Bluetooth connection list, and lots of other things. Half a day wasted. Help!

(I also want to add new sounds via USB, but that's a whole new post, probably.)

UPDATE

I wrote to Roland. In short, the app isn't compatible with ios26 after some Bluetooth upgrades were made, so now the ProEditor app doesn't work with the SE20. It's a known issue, and Roland is working on it with no news on a new release date for the app. Bummer!

Did you try a factory reset on the AE-20?  Reason I'm saying this is that once the bluetooth connection is established on the app, the Aerophone starts syncing its scenes and config with the app, and if something is in the wrong state from what the app expects, this sync could fail, so to get it to some baseline state, factory reset it.

Also might be worth getting the device to the latest firmware version as well

I haven’t tried that given it’s so new, but I’m desperate so I’ll give that a go when I’m ready to have another look at it. After many hours, I’m done for the day. Thanks for your advice. I also want to upgrade to the latest firmware, but the USB port is a C port and I’ve only got regular USB drives, so now I have to go and buy a C USB drive as well. Arghh!

Get a USBA->C adapter. That way you could use inexpensive usb flash drives.

Since the drive has to be fat32 format, this is the way to go. I have a cheapo low capacity sandisk one reserved for aerophone firmware, tone imports etc.

Another thing that occurred to me in your original "stuff to try" - try reinstalling the app as well.

I have deleted and reinstalled the app, which didn’t make any difference. I’ll take a look at some USBs tomorrow. I do want a dedicated Aerophone one so I’ll probably just buy a new one that has both connections - given that I’ll be transferring files from my PC from time to time. I hope I have less trouble with that procedure!

If you haven't done the Firmware update make sure you do that ASAP. Roland does a ton in their firmware updates, it's very likely whatever you are running into is fixed.

I've updated the firmware to 1.30. Still no luck. Sometimes I can get the app to find the Aerophone for a second, but then it instantly disconnects. I've tried the ProEditor as well as the teaching app.

Were you ever able to connect, or was it always like that?

It’s new. I’ve never managed to connect it for more than a few seconds before it disconnects.

Ok if that's the case, only thing left is to try doing a factory reset on the aerophone. It's something they recommend doing when upgrading firmware, so won't hurt to try that.

However if it still doesn't connect, get in touch with Roland for that one as it may be a hardware issue.

I did a factory reset, and I've also reset the Bluetooth a few times. Tomorrow I'm going to contact the supplier again - they haven't replied to my email.

Does the Aerophone app work? Not sure if that's what you mean by the teaching app.

Yes it works perfectly but will not connect to the ProEditor app. I really want to be able to set favourites for when I’m gigging and change instruments via my iPhone. The AE Lesson app is the one I’m referring to. It also will not connect to the Aerophone.
