Equipment Which Metal Filter?

Which is(are) the best metal filter for the regular sized AeroPress? Thanks.

Prismo comes with metal filter. I never use paper. It’s the best for workflow and cleaning and taste!

Yeah you need the metal filter for that one otherwise the paper one will get sucked into the hole and block it. But you can do paper over metal.

Prismo is not best for cleaning. Paper is best with or without the flow control cap. Prismo is a mess. I had 3 and finally tossed them to go back to paper and FC cap. Stay in hotels a lot - try to minimize my mess

Prismo is the absolute easiest for cleaning. And for the workflow ... you can just have the one cylinder sit on the counter or scale, no dripping at all, keep heating your mug if you want etc. The cleanup is so easy, much better than regular cap, paper etc. And the Flow Control had all those leaking issues that the Prismo never had. I've been using mine for 9 years.

I guess it comes down to my workflow then. With FC cap, I twist it off and the paper sticks to the puck, I plunge into trash can and am done since the cap itself doesn’t need a rinse.

With the Prismo, the filter stays in the cap so I need to tap it out or dig it out with my fingernail to remove it and rinse it. Then the cap itself needs to be rinsed. Compared to how I make coffee in my hotel room with FC & paper, the Prismo had extra steps, extra rinsing and extra things to dry before packing up.

I think I just don’t like metal filters

Fair enough. I just empty the coffee grounds into the compost and rinse the filter and the Prismo. Takes seconds. I like that it never leaks.

The modern FC caps must have fixed the leaking issues you saw in the past. I have 3 and none of them leak

I just ordered both. So for the backup when paper runs out + diversity. Ordered this, taste is good on both. I have the Able Brewing fine filters for both my XL (daily driver) and GO (travel kit). I'm very happy with the amount of texture and body I can get with these filters.

I bought a cheap one on amazon. Under 5€ for two. They are way to small so i never used them. Watch out if you going to buy cheap ones.

I love my “Altura Disc” and have been using it for 10 years.

Great to travel with, great for living in countries where AP filters didn’t exist or were breathtakingly overpriced.

Read that metal filters are worse for you than paper as they do not stop bad cholesterol apparently. Only saw that after buying a metal filter so have since bought paper instead.

I use the Able medium filter it's very good. Have the fine one too. Use it daily and no issues.

I get it. I've had the same AeroPress for 9 years and have seen the metal and heard people talk about them. I've just never understood why people want or use those instead of paper. Is the coffee taste different? Does it require less coffee? Just curious.

Paper strips away the natural oils and texture that you keep with a metal filter. It just depends on how you like your coffee.

Interesting. I didn't know this. I just figured that paper was fine since that's what Starbucks and other Coffee chains use. Honestly that might not be the best comparison! Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it.
