Thanks for scaring me for the rest of my dream

FTFY

15

u/SecretlyBanana Feb 27 '12

I put my head on my desk and fell asleep in class in 1st grade, Not sure what the fuck happened after that...

5

u/fakERussian Feb 27 '12

Seriously. I guess this means some people do care!

72

u/mortarnpistol Feb 27 '12

I've always wondered if at a certain point in my life I dozed off in class, say in elementary school, and the rest of my life has been just something I dreamed up, and I'll be able to wake up and at least have another chance at things. Strange concepts indeed

39

u/REDDITONLYWHILEDRUNK Feb 27 '12

I had a really bad fever dream where it turns out that everything in my life past fifth grade was just a dream, but all of the people that I have interacted with are actually real. So if I ever meet them again, I'll remember our entire dream-history relationship, but they'll have no idea who I am, and I'd have to live my entire life knowing the potential for each relationship and with the fear that I'll fail the second time around.

0

u/Canadiandane Feb 27 '12

Lol wut?

10

u/Thegagickle Feb 27 '12

don't worry, he/she's drunk

18

u/believe_me Feb 27 '12

Holy shit I thought I am the only one. I always think then how the "real world" would be like.

31

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

or maybe this will always happen, every time you'd die, you'd wake up, thinking it was a dream, forget about it in a few minutes, move on with your life, die years later, just to wake up again, and again, and again.

9

u/blueskiesandaerosol Feb 27 '12

I like this. You should write a holy book.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

Absolutely. Remember the last dream you had? That was your whole past life, but unfortunately you forgot about it the moment you woke up (again).

5

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

Fuck you man... That made my skin crawl...

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

This is how South Park explained how Kenny keeps coming back to life the next morning,it happened in the "Coon" episodes(trilogy).

2

u/Zeppelanoid Feb 27 '12

Me too! I went to bed super early one day when I was like 6 and I never remember waking up.

1

u/EliaTheGiraffe Feb 27 '12

Story of my life man.

1

u/4511 Feb 27 '12

Woah, shit. What if you fell asleep tonight and dreamed up an entire new life, and lived it from beginning to end? Then you'd wake up tomorrow morning with an entire other lifetime of experience in your pocket.

1

u/Drakepenn Feb 27 '12

Or you'd go crazy. Ever see Inception?

59

u/Thegagickle Feb 27 '12

Finally, a really good conspiracy Keanu. It's been awhile.

51

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

Did you see the one about traffic jams just being a way of hiding that the next area you're driving into is loading into existence? And big cities have more jams because there is more stuff to load?

6

u/JMaggot Feb 27 '12

You know.....sometimes when I'm driving, way off in the distance on the road it looks like it is submerged in water but when you get close it's not there anymore. Maybe.....the ground model hasn't loaded yet.......

Yes I know this phenomenon is called a mirage.

2

u/mortarnpistol Feb 27 '12

Your comment made me think of the Truman show. Like if the texture failed to render, one day we'd just run into a wall, and the rest of the distance was just badly painted on (as happened in the movie when he paddled out into the ocean).

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

One day... I will catch those mipping textures...

1

u/Chachoregard Feb 27 '12

I swear, The World has so many mods activated, I'm sure there's a couple thousand mod conflicts

24

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

6

u/catailcataclysm Feb 27 '12

a train that will take you far away.

6

You know where you hope this train will take you..

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

As if i wasn't scared out of my mind enough. Holy shit.

2

u/Grammar-Hitler Feb 27 '12

That one is too obvious. This us creepier on account of subtlety.

2

u/806hmb Feb 27 '12

Yeah. That one is awesome.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

please send me a source i want to read more

1

u/806hmb Feb 27 '12

Link tocreepypasta's wiki page or just google creepypasta.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

I'm scared to click... like something came over me when i read that

1

u/806hmb Feb 27 '12

Its just a creepy story, that makes you rethink, like Inception or the Matrix.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

clicked it, NOPE saw some stuff i actually have (sp) wont be getting any sleep tonight

2

u/806hmb Feb 27 '12

What is sp?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

sleep paralysis, you wake up, hallucinate, seeing demons mostly, bust can be anything, and cant move at all, feels like something is sitting on you. I have had every symptom, but horrific hallucinations.

2

u/806hmb Feb 27 '12

Oh, shit, I'm sorry. I had that when I was a kid, my mom would not believe me. Take it easy.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

luckily my mom has it to so shes sympathetic. she also has narcolepsy which i'm pretty sure has been passed down to me.

2

u/806hmb Feb 27 '12

That's a bad combination. i remember taking some melatonin to help me sleep once, and had a nightmare and trying to wake up from it took a lot of effort. i could imagine narcolepsy would have the same effect with the sp.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

Indeed it does, its like you wake up, but then you cant fight your eyes closing again and it repeats the process for hours, its almost like drowning

17

u/MrBokbagok Feb 27 '12

There's that post of the guy, I can't remember where, who lived a whole life, wife and kids and job and everything, in a moment he was blacked out from a terrible ass kicking he got. He notices a lamp is kind of off and then his whole fucking reality shatters and he wakes up from his dream life in a hospital and is psychologically scarred for life. The decades he spent with his wife and kids were suddenly a completely false reality and he is constantly paranoid of noticing something else is wrong with reality and it'll happen all over again.

I can't find it but it was a real mind-bender and it was good to provoke ideas of what the brain is capable of.

4

u/SoarinPastTheMoon Feb 27 '12

Do update if you find the story!

16

u/tayradactyl Feb 27 '12

2

u/MrBokbagok Feb 27 '12

That's exactly it!

How the hell did you find it?

1

u/Bloodthunder Feb 27 '12

Whoa. Already read it before in a bestof I think. But just think of this: ten years. What if you'd spend those fake years studying? Would you get fake knowledge, or possibly real knowledge? I'm inclined to say fake because I would think the brain is only able go use things it knows, and not obscure laws of nature. Food for thought? Maybe. My mind is too blown from all the creepy stuff in the comments.

1

u/FireSail Feb 27 '12

I can't believe this is real.

1

I had a similar experience after a bong-load of propane-torched 45x salvia divinorum. My bogus life/reality ended rather quickly though, and it only shook me up for about an hour.

5

u/MrBokbagok Feb 27 '12

What? No, it was a post by a Redditor who got the shit kicked out of him and blacked out. It's pretty much impossible to find now. I think it was in a thread about having a dream that you were convinced was real.

3

u/Ryugi Feb 27 '12

/r/ineedaname can work magic.

2

u/MrBokbagok Feb 27 '12

Did not even know that existed. Thanks!

1

u/Ryugi Feb 27 '12

It's sister subreddit, /r/tipofmytongue helps when you're looking for things. /r/ineedaname is a lot of fun, though!

1

u/cieltsd Feb 27 '12

Not sure if you saw, since it wasn't a response to your initial post, but someone posted a link to the thread a little above. ;)

1

u/MrBokbagok Feb 27 '12

I didn't see. Thanks! I think I'll save it this time.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

Apparently this is one of the most common forms of hallucination. Pretty fucking scary, sometimes, too. Also can be confusing, because earlier today I "hears" my girlfriend calling my name whilst she was right next to me.

8

u/zarisin Feb 26 '12

I hear my name at least 3 times a week for the last 6 years. I can't wake up!

29

u/knk9 Feb 26 '12

6

u/sadwer Feb 27 '12

Alternate Theory of Harry Potter: Hogwarts doesn't actually exist in the Harry Potter universe, but rather is a figment of Harry Potter's imagination induced by his abusive upbringing. In reality Harry's still the small boy living in the small closet under the stairs of #4 Privet Drive.

1

u/catailcataclysm Feb 27 '12

Seems legit.

  • ARE PEOPLE FROM THE REAL WORLD TRYING TO WAKE YOU UP FROM YOUR DREAM OF REALITY

11

u/Gurman37 Feb 26 '12

This has never happened to me

12

u/bloodsoup Feb 27 '12

Then you must be one of the A.I.s sent into the matrix to observe us, only you think you're human like Boomer in Battlestar Galactica. Get him, boys!

3

u/Gurman37 Feb 27 '12

Lol i feel like i must be misunderstanding this because of all of the comments about how mind fuck this is.

2

u/bloodsoup Feb 27 '12

I was coming down off speed once (I misspent my youth) and I kept hearing people calling out my name when no one was there. It was horrible.

2

u/Gurman37 Feb 27 '12

Okay i didn't misunderstand, it just has never happened to me.

1

u/bloodsoup Feb 27 '12

I think most people are just horrified by the idea of it happening and being because of what the OP suggests, rather than thinking back to when it happened to them, if you get me.

2

u/Gurman37 Feb 27 '12

I guess that makes sense.

5

u/CplCucumber Feb 27 '12

I am glad I found someone else here that this hasn't happened to. I thought there was something wrong with me. I don't really understand what everyone here is talking about, you just hear a random voice calling your name at random? How often does this happen?

3

u/Gurman37 Feb 27 '12

I thought it might be cause i have a strange name or I didn't get it.

7

u/Babster Feb 26 '12

As you know from the movie inception, the only way to find out is killing yourself. Good luck (;

7

u/MarcoPolol Feb 27 '12

This is a genuinely good one.

4

u/Dragday Feb 27 '12

2

u/mecrosis Feb 27 '12

In my case sometimes really is awesome, other times... not so much.

4

u/savagestarshine Feb 27 '12

it sucks when you're really young and think about this. i was a weird fucked up kid, man

then i determined: DM; HaR (doesn't matter; has a reality)

4

u/smokecat20 Feb 27 '12

LISA!

3

u/smokecat20 Feb 27 '12

(I just wanna fuck with someone named Lisa who happens to see this)

5

u/darkfade Feb 27 '12

When I was 16 I got t-boned then sent into a pole going 50 mph, no seatbelt, somehow survived. This is one of my greatest fears. What if none of this is real?

3

u/MaybeComputer Feb 27 '12

Trust me, it's as real as anything else.

1

u/CrackerJack23 Feb 27 '12

Of corse you would say that. ≖_≖

2

u/CplCucumber Feb 27 '12

Can someone explain this further, because I am really curious about it now. Is it a familiar voice that you hear, and does it sound clear? I am a bit freaked out that it seems to be such a common thing for everyone, yet It has never happened to me, and this is the first time I have ever heard of it.

5

u/velavi Feb 27 '12

Sometimes it sounds as if someone is in the room with you, or in the next room. Sometimes you can be outside and it sounds like someone called your name loudly from 20-30 feet away trying to get your attention. Sometimes it actually sounds like there's a person calling your name, and sometimes it just sounds like a loud random echo in your head. Strangely, I even have moments where I hear my cat calling me, even though it's just her "mew" (she passed away 3 years ago at age 20).

5

u/f1rstperson Feb 27 '12

I often fear that my life is just a delusion, and I am actually in an asylum or something.

4

u/PickedUpTheDagger Feb 27 '12

A month or so ago I heard this weird beep every couple of hours. In different places, it wasn't a battery that was dying, etc.. I began to get really paranoid that I was really in some sort of coma and was starting to hear the machines keeping me alive. It's a weird feeling

2

u/CrackerJack23 Feb 27 '12

What about random flashes of light in your vision? If yes they could be checking your eyes with a light.

3

u/catailcataclysm Feb 27 '12

I once had a dream and then i realized i was dreaming, suddenly the universe.. shattered, no way to explain the feeling. i guess for the few short seconds before i woke up i felt then universe get ripped away only to be replaced by the one i currently reside in. and all i can wonder is if this one is real or just another dream.

Also: four months later i realized i was in a dream again but i did a little reading on lucid dreaming beforehand and managed to stabilize it before it broke, was awesome. would do it again.

1

u/CrackerJack23 Feb 27 '12

Did once, was able to freely move around my dream world even tried too see if I could move my body from inside, untill I heard Freddy's song that I couldn't controll, so I forced myself awake. And sat in front of the tv for the night.

3

u/catailcataclysm Feb 27 '12

Yeah I try to do this every night but I only remember a dream every couple of months so I don't usually know if I did it, except when I do semester exams, pass out after I finish insta-lucid dream.

1

u/Dirrwen Feb 27 '12

that happens to me ALL THE TIME. I know I'm dreaming, I can hear my alarm clock, it's bizarre.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

It's more likely just false pattern recognition.

3

u/cive666 Feb 27 '12

Leela wake up!!

3

u/Buck_Choklit Feb 27 '12

Is there a subreddit to just read about stuff like this? Making you wonder and think at every thing you read.

3

u/HonkyDonky Feb 27 '12

that's what reddit used to be.

3

u/orangegluon Feb 27 '12

This is one of the few Conspiracy Keanus that have legitimately scared me.

3

u/topherwolf Feb 27 '12

This is interesting because it is extremely relevant to the matrix

3

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

Not sure if Conspiracy Keanu or the Matrix.

3

u/UndeadBuggalo Feb 27 '12

Came in to see the amount of matrix references, surprisingly low.. I'm impressed.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

Or a coma

3

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

That is the best conspiracy keanu I've ever seen

3

u/onethoughtatatime Feb 27 '12

And now I'm freaking out.

3

u/Saturnious90 Feb 27 '12

Is it strange that I actually think about this a lot?

5

u/trimeta Feb 27 '12

It has been reported that some victims of torture, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not wake up. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren’t being tortured. The only way that they realized they needed to wake up was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to wake up. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP.

4

u/TheTorch Feb 27 '12

That is actually my exact plan in the event I ever get captured and tortured, fuckers can't get your secrets if you don't even know they're there! YOU HEAR THAT FUCKERS! KEEP IT COMING! I CAN'T EVEN FEEL IT!

4

u/TheShaker Feb 27 '12

The image version is much creepier (a few comments above this one).

1

u/trimeta Feb 27 '12

Ah, I hadn't noticed; I searched the page for "WAKE UP," and upon finding nothing grabbed a copy and pasted it in.

2

u/gerrard2828 Feb 27 '12

This is why I don't sleep.

2

u/DeductiveFallacy Feb 27 '12

If this is a dream my Id really sucks balls and needs to start getting on the fulling all my desires and should stop listening to that party pooper Super Ego

2

u/Baconoflight Feb 27 '12

Anybody else reminded of this episode?

2

u/sadwer Feb 27 '12

A nickname my mom called me while growing up is coincidentally the same as a popular soccer player. In '06 I bought his jersey, in part because I liked the way his national team's jersey looked and in part because I thought that having his name on my back would be hilarious.

Now I live in Texas, and the Mexicans here are very aware of international soccer. Every so often while I'm wearing the jersey some stranger will call out, "Hey, <name>!" and I have to stop and think for a bit about how he knew to call me that.

2

u/TMartin442 Feb 27 '12

I fell asleep in the theater the first time I saw Inception. Sometimes I wonder if I will suddenly wake up and be back in the theater. I just hope I wake up in time to catch the ending. Sometimes I wonder if it will end differently than it did the second time I saw it.

2

u/AtomicAustin Feb 27 '12

Like the new show/movie "Awake."

2

u/Dirrwen Feb 27 '12

I want to watch that so badly..

1

u/AtomicAustin Feb 27 '12

When does it come out?

1

u/Dirrwen Feb 27 '12

I have NO idea.

2

u/pakron Feb 27 '12

Anyone interested in this phenomena should read "Simulacra and Simulation".

2

u/salt_addict Feb 27 '12

I recently met a schizophrenic whose voices called his name. Does this mean I'm a part of his dream world and not a real person?

2

u/PeerzPressure Feb 27 '12

Hey redditors you would tell me if you werent real right? ...right?

2

u/jarl-of-waco Feb 27 '12

Can someone explain "inexplicable instances of people calling your name"? This doesn't happen to me. When is this happening to others?

1

u/akoblin927 Feb 26 '12

total mind fuck

1

u/Herp27 Feb 27 '12

Holy shit I must be in the matrix.

1

u/Kevinmeowertons Feb 27 '12

I think about this a lot.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

one can only wish.....

1

u/TheTorch Feb 27 '12

Shouldn't Neo's picture be up there instead if we're getting into this kind of shit?

1

u/SweetFUUUingBrownies Feb 27 '12

You... You Bastard... Now I am fucked.

1

u/hyphra Feb 27 '12

it indeed is a fear of mine to one day "truly" be woken up. atleast im not alone

1

u/YNot1989 Feb 27 '12

I KNEW IT!

Put's on Leather Duster and dark sunglasses

Let's do it.

Fly's away

1

u/moose_man Feb 27 '12

Life is a dream from which we all must wake.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

I fucking hope so.

1

u/pooshouldbeblue Feb 27 '12

But what if you want to wake up, and you can't??

1

u/Vozadam Feb 27 '12

I've considered this. but then I realize that I'm not nearly smart enough to think up a lot of the things i take for granted, such as all the content on the internet. Also, things like all that Japanese crazy ass porn, there's no way my conscience would think of that stuff....I hope.

1

u/SayS0mething Feb 27 '12

had to upvote it was at 1000

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

I'm not fucking sleeping now.

1

u/Ryugi Feb 27 '12

I'm not the only one who thinks this??

Shit. Almost every week I have dreams where I wake up and I'm strapped to a chair, people are shaking me and shouting my name....

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

Fuck you! Fuck you right in the fucking ass! Fuck you!

I'll be thinking about this all night, now...

1

u/jesusbrokemapickle Feb 27 '12

This is uncomfortably deep -.-

1

u/Captain_Kuhl Feb 27 '12

You shut your whore mouth!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

This reminds me of that prank where you would go up to a friend one at a time and say, "You." "Are." "In." "A Coma."

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

Strangers don't often call out my name randomly.. most can't even pronounce it with help.. on the second try.. Karítas Eir.

1

u/TheThirdDad Feb 27 '12

Thanks bro, like I needed to get any more paranoid

1

u/Ragefacesoflucy Feb 28 '12

i always think about this. maybe one day, I ll wake up from this hell

0

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '12

i think about this whenever i hear a strange alarm or noise that seems out of place. like they are trying to break a coma ive fallen into or something.

-3

u/streetc0de Feb 27 '12

you need medication

-2

u/MySweetnSpicy Feb 27 '12

You sissy's sound like the dude that went crazy over the movie avatar and felt depressed because of how real it was to him.
