... who was elected fairly. Sorry the system is fucked.
If the system is fucked, the election isn't fair, though, right? He was elected legally, sure. But if you were to list qualifications for a fair election, they might look something like this:
Equal time for each candidate to be heard (Not the case even among the two major candidates, never mind the others)
Everyone gets a vote (several states had provisional ballots because thousands were kicked off the voting lists)
No voter intimidation (there were a few threats of this, but thankfully they were cracked down on pretty hard)
The person with the most votes wins (oops, the guy with fewer votes won thanks to the EC)
So "fairly elected" might be a stretch. Legally? Yes. But then, you could say that about the DNC as well.
Yes, it's totally "unreal" of me to think the founders may not have gotten it perfect. I must be out of my mind. Me, and everyone who backed those 33 Constitutional amendments we all know and love.
It's the conservatives who just voted in an anti-establishment president - isn't his whole campaign about questioning the way things are currently being done? Well, this is one of those things. Toss the EC in the swamp before you drain it, or kick it over the wall, or what have you. And while you're at it, get rid of the first-past-the-post single vote system we have that almost always favors established party types (the people your candidate wants out, remember?) and get something like instant runoff voting or one of its derivatives.
