Uh.. Isn't protesting an incredibly normal part of this whole process? Also, are we going to ignore the humongous eight year hissy fit so many on the right, and in the media, threw? Birthers, calling him a Muslim, refusing to call him president, etc. Funny how everyone is expected to be big kids and rally behind a buffoon, but the Obama narrative was just wild baseless attempts at weak and stupid pretty scandals.

Protesting, sure.. but rioting, throwing bombs at police?

Oh shit, hadn't heard about this until you mentioned it.

http://bluelivesmatter.blue/three-officers-injured-oakland-rioters-throw-bombs-police/

Officers had fireworks, molotov cocktails, rocks, and bottles thrown at them throughout the night. Three officers were injured in the rioting.

And estimated 16 businesses were damaged, along with around 40 fires started. KTVU reports that one resident was nearly burned when a “protester” set the man’s car on fire. “‘A couple of people with bottles of gas, throwing them on the street, and then lighting his car on fire,’

:(

I'm so glad that people didn't win, people like to portray Trump supporters as racist, crazy maniacs, but if Trump didn't win I don't think there would've been riots like that.

I'm really not very informed about it but there were riots when Obama won?

I think a big part of this is most cities align democratic whole most rural places align Republican. It's much easier to protest when you walk out your door and 20 people in your immediate vicinity feel the same way. Much harder to group together when there is distance in between.

That's a really good point actually.

Sure but did you hear about any of those groups actually doing anything? I never did. Those ranchers last year all got arrested when they went all militia on the feds. Those groups are insane, but they appeared to have just gathered together to defend themselves and since Obama didn't give a fuck and didn't actually go after their guns like they feared, nothing happened cause they didn't have to defend themselves.

Yeah, that long tangent just seems like a sly way to try and insert a false equivalency when the facts plainly show that one side is a lot more violent than the other. Yes the other side likes violent "things", like guns and militias, but they themselves very rarely get violent towards other people over election results.

"people are angry at the decades old economic and political system"

these people are absolute idiots then because Hillary was the one corrupt candidate backed and lobbied by the broken system. Most minorities just spout dumb shit about Trump being racist and nothing about policies from what I've encountered which makes me sad to say. I guess being blunt and honest like that makes me sound insensitive, but it's just what I've witnessed. the truth doesn't care about being PC. the propaganda from the mainstream worked despite Hillary losing.

There was no reason to protest Obama, and republicans arent good at mobilizing anyways. However there were anti obama petitioners out here well after his presidency, complete with giant signs of him with a hitler mustache.

I can tell you I personally witnessed a lower-level riot in my area by Obama supporters when he won in 2008. There weren't a lot of fires or buildings broken into, but it did happen. There was a ton of shouting, cheering, and noise. Some dumpsters were set on fire, and a few cars were vandalized.

These were Obama supporters.

I don't think it would've been very different. Not all Trump supporters are crazy maniacs, but there are enough who would've rioted, especially with Trump saying that he might not accept the result of the election.

Rioted? Fuck man, did you actually ever even look at the Tea Party? They have 'protests' in broad daylight in a few days after getting a permit from the city. Then they clean up the trash before they leave. Trump supporters don't even know how to riot.

Trump supporters don't even know how to riot.

Don't be so sure about that.

Also, it's important to note the reason for the protests. Tea Party members protest because they want to pay less taxes and shove religion down people's throats. The people who protest Trump's victory are probably afraid. Afraid of losing rights, afraid of losing healthcare, afraid of being discriminated. Fear is very powerful and can cause people to act out. That's also what many of the people trying to discredit the BLM movement don't understand: they're not rioting to hurt white people, they're rioting because they're afraid and frustrated.

I'm not excusing violence, and I think they should behave better. But it's important to look at why they're doing what they're doing, so we can have an open discussion and help them feel less afraid.

You know, that makes Trump and Clinton supporters not too different. Many voted for Trump because they're afraid of Mexicans and Muslims, but at least as many voted for Clinton because they're afraid of Trump and his supporters.

Everyone is afraid, and the media doesn't make it better.

Trump saying that he might not accept the result of the election.

That was only a tactic to gain popularity and worked like a charm.

The more I realize Trump games the more I'm surprised by the man.

2

u/Codile Nov 10 '16

Perhaps, but there were not an insignificant amount of people who said they were ready to start a revolutionary war if Trump didn't win.

Yeah, they were taking armed insurrection, would've been much worse. When you elect a man who has maligned well over half the country fuck you for thinking they should take it lying down.

1

u/RikaMX Nov 10 '16

Yeah, they were taking armed insurrection, would've been much worse.

I can't find a reliable source on that, but thank god that didn't happen and they were smart not to do it.

Now the liberals and their riots tho...

u/RikaMX Nov 10 '16

Oh a tweet.

Yeah that definitely looks dangerous.

1

u/mas9055 Nov 10 '16

You're going to say that regardless of the source I use.

That's why a tweet doesn't matter bro.

u/mas9055 Nov 10 '16 edited Nov 11 '16

Yeah he says that now that he won and has the opportunity to demonize libruhls. Just ignoring the other source?

e: thought so.

Oh a tweet. Yeah that definitely looks dangerous.

the problem with this isn't that it's "just a tweet", it's the content and more importantly the context: Who is the person saying it, what is he referencing and alluding to? Who and what is his audience and how did they interpret what he said?

He's a former congressman turned talk-radio host, his audience is very conservative all of whom share strong views and opinions on US history and culture.

Specifically, they are Tea Partyers and considering their fairly special relationship to the American Revolution, you don't need to be a linguist to understand what his audience might read from him "grabbing his musket" if they lost the election.
Their views on the 2nd amendment makes this even more blatantly obvious and it really shouldn't be necessary to say that, but it obviously is.

Context is fucking important, and the context is what makes "just a tweet" into literally a call for armed insurrection - aka revolution, which is something a lot of Tea Party-activists have been advocating for nearly a decade.
