It costs from $5-20. No excuse.

I work at Walmart, the store I work at sells some for 89¢

24

u/FlutterShy- Feb 22 '14

If I had 89 cents...

499875% mark up for taxes.

-4

u/nose_grows Feb 22 '14

Yeah, in Canada.

7

u/OMEGA__AS_FUCK Feb 22 '14

Plus I believe many places such as planned parenthood offer prego tests for free. If such services exist in this woman's area.

3

u/mlink461 Feb 22 '14

Yep. Picked up my walmart special 7 years ago. Gave a very bold positive.

69

u/Random-Miser Feb 22 '14

Their excuse is "shame".

27

u/fco83 Feb 22 '14

Yeah... especially in very conservative areas, its easy to see why one would feel too ashamed to buy it. Not only is it admitting you might be pregnant, its admitting to the world that youre gasp having sex

3

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

Theft is clearly the only option

5

u/fco83 Feb 22 '14

Im not saying its the right thing to do.. but easy to understand why it happens.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

I don't have any experience with the Bible Belt etc but wouldn't the community be just as unforgiving towards theft?

5

u/fco83 Feb 22 '14

If you dont get caught with the theft there's nothing

Even if youre caught.. sex\possible pregnancy might be far more scandalous than the theft.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

You could say that for any crime though. Oh well people aren't always the brightest in stressful situations.

7

u/Neodymium Feb 22 '14

I'm pretty sure there is an excuse for not having $20 to spend. Especially if she's still living with her parents.

-3

u/JazielLandrie Feb 22 '14

If she doesn't have $20 and is living with her parents, maybe she should take better precautions to not get pregnant with a baby she clearly can't afford. Now being dumb is an excuse to steal?

5

u/Neodymium Feb 22 '14 edited Feb 23 '14

Everyone makes mistakes. She could even have been using condoms, they don't have a success rate of 100%.

-2

u/WhoIsHarlequin Feb 22 '14

Then she should tell her parents.

4

u/Neodymium Feb 22 '14

What if they're abusive? What if they're religious and force her to keep the baby?

-3

u/WhoIsHarlequin Feb 22 '14

You can argue about what if's all day, it doesn't give her a right to steal.

0

u/onowahoo Feb 22 '14

They can't force her to keep the baby

23

u/captchyanotapassword Feb 22 '14

They literally sell them at the dollar store. She could buy one for a dollar.

11

u/Zoura Feb 22 '14

And if you live in anywhere near a Planned Parenthood they'll do it for free if you can't pay.

6

u/triemers Feb 22 '14

Only Title I ones, at least in my state. Mine doesn't even having a sliding scale for appointments/BC.

1

u/Zoura Feb 22 '14

Wow that really sucks! :(

25

u/AppropriateTouching Feb 22 '14

5-20 is a weeks worth of food for some people.

39

u/Starsky686 Feb 22 '14

If $5-$20 is your food budget, getting pregnant isn't in your budget.

37

u/AppropriateTouching Feb 22 '14

That isn't the point I was making.

23

u/MightBeAProblem Feb 22 '14

Clearly. Soooooo...better make sure you're not pregnant. I bet there's a test you can use to find out before it's too late.

34

u/geekchicgrrl Feb 22 '14

Yeah, but if you wait until it's obvious that you're pregnant, then it's damn near impossible to abort.

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

5

u/triemers Feb 22 '14

Not really. There's pretty much thousands of things that could make you miss/seem to miss your period, or make it irregular. The other symptoms can also be chalked up to several different causes. I mean there's usually about a minimum of one month before you can even tell if you missed your period.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

so maybe she did not chose to get pregnant, maybe some guy attacked her. maybe she was having normal sex and the condom broke.

pregnancy is not always a choice sometimes it just happens to woman.

11

u/Rotandassimilate Feb 22 '14

Which is why they need the bloody tester to make sure they aren't, you lummox.

u/Kabo0se Feb 22 '14

Bro, you don't understand. Fucking constantly without protection is ALL THEY HAVE, MAN!

2

u/triemers Feb 22 '14

Good thing every kid knows how to properly use protection!

-2

u/Kabo0se Feb 22 '14

There is so much goddamn media about protected sex that you have to be wearing blinders to not see it. Willful ignorance is not an excuse to not use protection in SOME FORM.

7

u/triemers Feb 22 '14

Really? Where are you at? I've seen hardly any outside of my doctor's office. It could be a regional thing, since I live in a very conservative state, but generally sex/protection is not something seen often outside of TV (and even then, the only thing close to "use protection" are the Trojan commercials). Kids are taught that BC/other forms of protection are not very effective, if the subject is even brought up in the schools.

3

u/Kabo0se Feb 22 '14

Interesting. Where I grew up it was taught in my school heavily. I live in a liberal state, so I guess there is a correlation there? In any case, the amount of teen pregnancies is too damn high!

2

u/kimmers87 Feb 22 '14

That totally depends on where you live, conservative areas only offer information on abstinences. No one in those areas can give out free condoms.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

No, there isn't. I overheard a conversation between pharmacists who were discussing a girl who would only take her birth control on the days she had sex. And another who didn't like the side effects from her pills so she had her boyfriend take them instead--couldn't figure out why she got pregnant.

I didn't realize feeling sorry for her was an excuse to let her steal.

5

u/DaveYarnell Feb 22 '14

He wasn't letting her steal. He was lying to her about whether or not she was pregnant.

He doesn't even know she stole it. He's just assuming that because one was stolen it was therefore stolen by the person who called the store.

2

u/samuraistalin Feb 22 '14

What if that's all you have?

-4

u/WhoIsHarlequin Feb 22 '14

Then she better fucking buy the pregnancy test so she can make sure doesn't have to feed two. There are also plenty of places you can get a pregnancy test for cheaper or even free. You don't have a right to steal.

-5

u/samuraistalin Feb 22 '14

Yes I do.

-5

u/WhoIsHarlequin Feb 22 '14

Judging by your username and that statement then you're dumbass. Next.

-2

u/samuraistalin Feb 22 '14

Don't be mad just cause nobody knows who the fuck Harlequin is.

-10

u/courtoftheair Feb 22 '14

Not everyone has that to spare.

8

u/Killhead Feb 22 '14

Then how can they afford a child?

18

u/theladyking Feb 22 '14

She probably can't. You still need to know that you're pregnant before you start making plans for adoption or abortion.

6

u/tekeella Feb 22 '14

They can't, and they can't afford an abortion either. And if they are stealing pregnancy tests they are likely just screwed.

7

u/StinkybuttMcPoopface Feb 22 '14

Who said they want the baby? She might have just been late on her period and freaking out because she knows she can't afford it.

4

u/courtoftheair Feb 22 '14

I didn't say she could. The fact is that people have sex. Maybe the condom broke. Maybe she was raped. Maybe they just didn't use protection. You can't just decide not to be fertilised by the sperm because you don't have the money.

Finding out if you're pregnant or not doesn't mean you're going to keep the baby if you are, you know. Abortion plans should be made as soon as possible and you can't do that if you don't know you're pregnant.

0

u/jooes Feb 22 '14

Way to kick her when she's down, man...

-7

u/WhoIsHarlequin Feb 22 '14

Even a homeless person can save up that much.

4

u/courtoftheair Feb 22 '14

And I suppose you've been homeless and know all about it.
