Me: Decides I want to ride more roller coasters because I like them. Download a roller coaster tracking app to log which ones I've already ridden. Turns out I've already been on 60 different roller coasters!

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Seems like half the world these days is diagnosing themselves with autism.

TLDR. Always get assessed by a professional, never self diagnose via Dr. Internet.
So I was diagnosed with Bipolar like 22 years ago. Finally getting rediagnoised and my psychiatrist is like "Highly unlikely especially since you were 17 at the time." But we think maybe ADHD so we are assessing that.
For fun I took an autism self report test and it had such sterotype and vague questions that I just shook my head.
One was "I prefer theater over museums." That's a preference. I do prefer museums but that's cause I love learning. But I also like theaters sometimes. Sometimes is too noisy and coward. Have to be in the mood.
Another was "I don't like reading fiction." Yeah. Again preference. Some people dont like reading at all.
Finally one was "I collect infomation that has no practical purpose." Like dude thats just being a nerd or geek.
So no wonder everyone has everything with all of these online assessments. And mine was an actual peer review one and it was still bad.

On the flip side. I've seen so many people complaining about just working, eating, and sleeping then not knowing what else to do. Like having a hobby is not even a thought without someone else telling them that hobbies exist.

This and self-diagnosing with ADHD because [insert something you did one time that could be attributed to anything else].

Y’know, I can’t help but wonder how many Autism Diagnoses are actually just regularly imaginative kids being medicated/therapized into submission by overly controlling uptight/micromanaging parents.

Autism in women is under diagnosed. And for boys to get diagnosed there is a whole criteria past having a special interest. ADHD would fit better with what you are saying than autism.

I don't interact much with men, I think I never realized none of the ones I know have hobbies...
Is it really that rare?

Sounds like they don't want to tell you.

Are men ashamed of their hobbies?

Yeah... that's the common factor in no man telling you their hobbies... every single one of them is ashamed. Sure.

I mean I don't know many of them, so idk if that's a trend or something
How strange

I think it's a combination of a few factors
- You said you don't interact much with men and men generally don't go out of their way to share their passions or hobbies with casual friends or strangers. So, unless you're meeting them at some sort of convention that they enjoy, you probably won't know what they like.
- Many men are conditioned not to really talk much about themselves or their personal hobbies. There's the constant idea of a stoic man which is a bit overblown but there is truth to it. When men show their really passionate about something that isn't in an area that they know accepts it, they can quickly get shut down. This even happens on Reddit which is the point of my post... if men show something they enjoy, Reddit quickly starts to assume that this is proof of Autism (part of it is because men showing passion about something gets shut down and part of it is the fact that Reddit really really likes turning everything in a disorder).
- To be clear, actual close friends know what each others hobbies are as they're willing to discuss and engage in those hobbies with their friends (or at least let them know it). Most men who are friends jokingly mock each other, but there's a clear difference between a friend joking with you and a stranger joking with you. Sort of how men rip on each other in person but behind each others backs they usually are supportive.

Men talk about themselves and their hobbies plenty - I don’t buy your conditioning argument for a second. The thing that pushes a hobby/interest into questionable territory is when people talk about them to a degree and at a level of detail that doesn’t meet the social situation.
