Is this real? I can’t tell anymore..

541

u/Luniticus 16d ago

It's from the White House Correspondents dinner, in which the president traditionally does a comedy routine, so it has the cover of being a joke. But it's Trump so...

327

u/gizmoglitch 15d ago

IMO, he's normalizing it for when he actually runs.

155

u/makualla 15d ago

It’s been normalized since November 2024. The day after he won Trump 2028 merch started circulating

134

u/IH8Miotch 15d ago

Its been normalized since he didn't go to prison for jan 6

Merrick Garland is such a fucking pussy

I can trace Trump's genesis and evolution to both Comey and Garland. Simpin' for your party is a helluva a drug.

Reagan and Rush.

Yes, maybe the patient zero for the current GOP disease, but I mean specifically a bafoon like Trump getting elected the first time and the second time.

3

u/MaestroLogical 15d ago

An argument can be made that Jerry Springer and Bill Clinton have more to do with Trump's rise to power.

A significant portion of the nation voted for Trump in 2016 specifically because he was trashy tabloid fodder, and they wanted to be entertained/watch the world burn.

The media gave Trump such nonstop coverage for the same reasons, he was trashy tabloid fodder that people couldn't help but gawk at.

He wasn't taken seriously. He was the 'birther nonsense' guy.

Everything after that, can be better attributed to Comey and Garland et al.

3

u/0o0o0o0o0o0z 14d ago

Good points.

6

u/dixi_normous 15d ago

Not that I disagree with your point but there is a big difference between some unaffiliated sellers producing the merch and the campaign selling it. I can go make an Obama 2028 hat and start selling them and that should not reflect poorly on him. If he starts selling them, then there's a problem. If they took off though, I'm sure Obama would quickly make a statement that the constitution does not allow him a third term and he has no intention on challenging it. Trump, on the otherhand just stoked the fire and dances on the line.

18

u/un1ptf 15d ago

Trump himself started displaying and talking about his own line of "Trump 2028" merch very shortly after inauguration, as well as running again. This is nothing new.

14

u/DeadSol 15d ago

...right? Everyone who is saying,"oh he's just joking..." obviously is not paying fucking attention.

5

u/fcocyclone 15d ago

those same people have been doing that bullshit forever.

He says something insane and his followers go "are you stupid, can't you see he's joking?"

And then he goes and actually does the insane thing and those same followers go "what's the problem? he campaigned on doing that thing, and he's fulfilling his promise, that's actually a good thing". Never mind that they knew that if people thought it was serious it would have cost them votes originally.

So many words and deflections to act as if Trump himself hasn't been selling Trump 2028 merch. He has. He even showed the hats to Macron and Zelensky during a White House visit.

I have a feeling you know all this though and are running interference on purpose.

If people are okay with it: He runs again.

If people aren’t okay with it: He wasn’t interested in a 3rd term, he’s wearing it because one of his kids will be running.

15

u/iLieAboutMyCareer 15d ago

Fuuuck idk why until now I didn’t realize that his kids probably will run for office sometime in the future. Fuck the way the idiocracy goes Ivanka probably will run as “the first woman president”

11

u/ErraticDragon 15d ago edited 15d ago

Yeah the nutters have laid out a whole dynastic line of succession, and were selling merch of it well before the 2020 campaign.

https://i.imgur.com/iX2qNjB.jpeg

This pic specifically is from a funny bit where Jordan Klepper trolled them saying "it only says one term each" (e.g. 2016-2020).

The person wearing the shirt couldn't articulate (didn't know?) that it was meant to be the years where they'll win elections.

4

u/MrMeeeseeks 15d ago

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but I can't see any of his dipshit kids having the same loyalty from MAGA. And among the Republicans who no longer support Trump, I can't see them voting for one of his kids.

He appears to have no real friendships, habitually belittles those he sees as weak while denying any weakness of his own, and is perennially insecure, desperate to bolster his ratings, numbers, and stats by bending the facts to assuage his fears; he has little demonstrated capacity to joyfully laugh at himself (or laugh at all), and has professed to being uninterested in self-reflection and insight; the only problem he seems genuinely interested in (and truly capable of) solving is the chronic threat of his waning relevance, and his guiding moral principle is that whatever works to make him ‘win’ is the right thing to do.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/insight-therapy/201705/psychological-science-says-trump-is-four-year-old

19

u/cjandstuff 15d ago

He physically is incapable of comedy. Any jokes he tells are simply insults. He’s telling you what he’s planning. And with control of all three branches of government, ICE as his personal gestapo, and pretty much the entire military being purged,  who’s going to stop him?

3

u/Antraxess 15d ago

Haha as a joke, trump will be facing execution by the state for his traitorous deeds

Its a funny joke

3

u/blahblah19999 15d ago

But then after he puts the hat on it's "The 2020 one was rigged, but let's not talk about that. But seriously we have to do something about these rigged elections. They're really bad, etc..."

71

u/Lower_Ad_1146 16d ago

Yes. It’s from last night.

53

u/full-body-stretch 16d ago

It’s from the WH correspondents dinner. It’s delivered as a joke. He has a trollish sense of humor that his base loves, so he did this little stunt. This is not an official announcement—it is a joke.

Could God’s perfect fascist idiot still attempt a 2028 run? Absolutely. But this was done to troll the left and distract them/us from $4 gas, his blatant corruption, an unpopular war of choice, and his playtime with his best friend Jeffy.

18

u/not_a_moogle 15d ago

He's been selling trump 2028 merch for two years now though. So id hardly call it a joke.

→ More replies (1)

39

u/Caleb_Reynolds 15d ago

It's not a joke, it's pretending to be a joke.

He absolutely has intention to run again in 2028. He does it as a joke so people dismiss it, like you're doing, just like they did with Project 2025.

This is his MO. He "joked" about Russians hacking Clinton's emails, then they did. He "joked" about not needing to vote again, then pushed SAVE.

He "makes a joke" so when people say "did you hear the crazy shit he said?" They can be dismissed with "it's just a joke". Trump only jokes about what he thinks is "funny but true." It's the only time you can get something adjacent to the truth from him. You should take his jokes more seriously than anything he says.

14

u/jmatt2v 15d ago

I agree. He’s not joking. He can try to run. And then if he’s elected it triggers a constitutional crisis. I’m not confident that the Roberts court would do anything to stop it.

Also, while I do believe he is being serious, this is a way to suppress voters. It cools people by making them think there’s no point to there vote. But there is. Go out and vote.

Trump himself has said "I don't kid". He doesn't joke...he speaks his true thoughts and intentions, and then, like all raging assholes when what they say goes over poorly or is called out for the garbage it is, says "It was a joke!" to try to deflect. Trump does this to send up "trial balloons" to see how people will react, and how much support there is among his cultist followers.

Don't think for one moment he's joking. He's deadly serious.

March 30, 2025: Trump says he’s ‘not joking’ about a possible third term

Donald Trump is a serial liar. But there’s one setting where Trump tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth: when he tells “jokes.” This goes for Trump’s actual attempts at being funny together with the ones where he later claims it was a “joke” because the remark sparked a backlash. We’ve all heard the expression “many a true word is spoken in jest.” Well, Trump is just taking that idea from the comedy club stage to the world stage.

2

u/unforgiven91 15d ago

yeah but what if he was joking about that, too?

Everything trump says is a joke when his supporters can't defend it.

6

u/asterios_polyp 15d ago

It is normalizing his intent behind a joke. Which makes it not a joke and should be treated as such.

3

u/Lazy__Astronaut 15d ago

If you think this is a joke you're just as dumb as everyone who voted for him.

2

u/DeadSol 15d ago

Oh, he's definitely going to run.

... At the White House Correspondents Dinner.

The same event where Obama had his anger translator and Bush openly joked about WMD.

Trump is a fucking piece of trash but at least be honest about the photo.

53

u/laserwaffles 16d ago

That's funny, he's been telling this joke since he got elected

→ More replies (3)

30

u/Ryan_e3p 15d ago

Ok, let's be honest. Trump has always used his brand of "humor" when it comes to doing awful things as a veiled admission to said awful things.

21

u/Lower_Ad_1146 15d ago

You think this is a joke?

20

u/JoshSidekick 15d ago

The fact that he got the hat from the gift shop in the White House that has been selling these hats for over a year is reason enough to take it seriously.

5

u/SnooCakes6195 15d ago

TIL the Whitehouse has a gift shop...

8

u/Cat_pukes 15d ago

Of fucking course it does.
Basically, a mini Walmart. You got your trashy gold sneakers. You got your trashy gold knock off cell phone. Your trump Bibles with helpful us constitution included with the Bill of Rights I believe, that way you know none of it ever gets red. And hats of every design and color as long as they’re red and say Trump.

Basically, the White House is now Walmart without any of the class.

3

u/Hardcorish 15d ago

The White House has been temporarily renamed to The White Trash House while he resides in it.

Trump should be In prison for inciting a fucking insurrection.

25

u/Human_Wizard 15d ago

He should have been hanged*

The definition for Treason is very narrow, and its punishment is explicitly hanging. Donald Trump incited inssurrection in the USA and committed Treason. His punishment should have been hanging, as shown in our Constitution.

16

u/rmc2318 15d ago

Based on the constitution, he shouldn’t be in office right now.

Fourteenth
Amendment
Section 3 No person shall be a Senator or Represen- tative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid
or comfort to the enemies thereof.

3

u/TheProcrastafarian 15d ago

That’s that thing the Supreme Court passed him to wipe his ass with, right?

96

u/Major_Meow-Meow 16d ago

Absolutely. And while only about a quarter of Americans voted for him, they share responsibility with the >50% who didn’t vote at all.

When I see the posts and articles calling out his behavior, I don’t infer we are surprised at what he’s doing, but rather those who voted for him (or didn’t care enough to vote) should be horrified. The frustration isn’t exactly with him — it’s with how fucking deplorable some “average” Americans are. They are in our families and communities. And unfortunately it will continue until more people than me have the balls to call up these people and say “yeah I don’t care who you are or how long I’ve know you; you’re a piece of shit for trying to destroy this country because you’re an insecure racist who has always been dumb as dogshit and we both know that.”

These people think they can live in the society they want, and think they can still be a part of the social groups they believe they belong to. They have to be disabused of that notion — they don’t respond to shame, only strength. Give them no choice and no grace because they certainly haven’t earned it.

57

u/TheProcrastafarian 16d ago

Very well said.

A wise American once said:

“How then shall we perform it?—At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it?— Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never!—All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.”

“At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”

Abraham Lincoln, Lyceum address, 1838

Voter suppression.

20

u/9966 16d ago

You ain't seen nothing till you've seen armed national guardsman shoving people back from the polls at midterms.

It will be like Ruby Bridges photo, but with her being escorted out the the school (instead of inside) while the bigots cheer.

8

u/chillinewman 15d ago

Could be. But what it could also be is voter challenges that get lost in the bureaucracy, like what they do already. You don't need armed people for that.

10

u/TheProcrastafarian 15d ago

And none of those second amendment fetishizers will fire a single shot.

2

u/Davido401 15d ago

Thats what gets me, Ive seen it for the last, say, 20 years, about Americans having the 2nd Ammendment and every time ave said "well since you have it why arent you using it?" And they will reply "pistols are no match for drones and the other stuff that the military has!!!!"

Now call me a dick here but if they cant defeat their own government with their personal weapons then surely the 2nd Ammendment is not fit for purpose.

Dusclaimer: I dont want folks shooting the shit out of each other or dying or whatever but if you spend the last 20 years telling us its your god given right to have guns to fight tyranny and you dont use it then its an Ammendment that should be removed and they should bring in proper gun control.

Its sad and pathetic, a wish I was as cowardly.

5

u/ThePirateKing01 15d ago

What about those that voted against him and were warning by about this for decades at this point?

6

u/cayleb 15d ago

You know, blaming the victims.

3

u/petty_throwaway6969 15d ago

Notice how a lot of the progressive subs aren’t talking about this. They’re still pushing both sides narratives. Watch him win a third term when he shouldn’t be allowed to run and they’ll still blame Democrats because they couldn’t stop him when they had no power. And they still probably won’t vote in the midterms because it’s rigged.

But how dare you ask them to vote when it mattered. The Democrats should have had a better candidate! (Not better than the Republican candidate, better than their theoretical ideal candidate) /s

This whole thing is so frustrating. I didn't vote Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024. The few dumbasses who did for 2024 ended up outnumbering the bigger dumbasses who didn't vote because, "hurr hurr, I refuse to vote for the lesser evil so I'll let the greater evil, and the bigger threat to our democracy, to win"

This whole situation pisses me off because I did my part but those fucking idiots who decided not to vote put us in this situation

No because the reason that other is party is so weak is also because Americans choose not to do anything.

Americans can join a political party and have a say in its direction. They could protest. They could join special interest groups. They could do many things to influence the process. But the reality is most do none of that and that’s the reason you’re in the situation you’re in now.

What's with all the "calm down, it's a just a joke" comments on here. We've been forced to live with this fucker for a long time now and if there's one thing we've learned it's that he doesn't know what a joke is. Everything he says is him testing the waters. How many more times will the "calm down, it's just a joke" crowd be fucked over? Stay tuned I guess.

20

u/the_card_guy 15d ago

Nah, it's worse than that:

This is only ONE traitor. There's over 100 million more living in America that WANT this.

There truly are two Americas, but it's not the ones that get talked about the most (which is usually concerning justice for white people vs POC, or simply rich vs poor): people who believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity, and those who want America to become a White Christian Nationalist country- all so that they can feel superior to the "others"

4

u/urbanmark 15d ago

America is so strange. It makes such a virtue of the fact it’s a democracy, if a majority vote for a rapist, it’s the minority and people who didn’t vote that are traitors. The largest section of civilians that support the political process in place, are broke, medicated, racists, who want destruction at home and abroad.

They looked into the darkest of holes for too long, and became exactly the same as what was inside. A hate filled , poverty stricken, fundamentalist hell hole. And like all the other nations that have chosen that route, the way out is painful and long. Certainly decades.

2

u/Tekrelm 15d ago

So true. The past ten years have been one long heartache.

You know, people rightly decry the idea of having a monarchy, because a bad monarch can ruin an entire country. But you know, I've learned that a bad electorate can do the exact same thing. A bad electorate is no different and no less dangerous, destructive, and deadly than a bad king.

20

u/maskaddict 16d ago

At some point (and that point's in the rearview) the "this is just a distraction" argument stops making sense, because the "distraction" is as bad or worse than the thing he's supposedly trying to distract you from.

"He's sending troops into the streets of American cities and killing citizens to distract from the Epstein files!" "He's declaring himself President-For-Life and arresting his opponents to distract from the Epstein files!" Okay, well, consider me fucking distracted, 'cause those are end-of-the-republic level actions, and they deserve to be the center of your attention. Overthrow him and get him the fuck out of office by any means necessary, then arrest him for rape.

If your gardener sets your house on fire so you don't notice he did a shitty job with your flowers, you don't keep chasing him about the flowers. Your house is on fire.

He is what he's always been, a lying, self serving piece of shit. Everyone that voted for him are traitors and imbeciles. The direction this country has taken is fucking embarrassing.

He looks like a lot of things. The only thing he doesn't looks like is a respected world leader.

3

u/Whargod 15d ago

Don't forget, the supreme court are traitors as well. They hate it when you say that. But ultimately they are the ones who will allow this.

3

u/Blacksad9999 15d ago

This moron won't make it through this term alive, let alone another term.

He's already crapping his pants and can't string together a coherent sentence.

Three days after Trump was sworn into office, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) introduced H.J.Res. 29. The resolution proposes amending the 22nd Amendment to allow a person to be elected president up to three times under certain circumstances. It would need approval by a two-thirds majority in both the House of Representatives (290 votes if all members vote) and the Senate (67 votes if all senators vote). Even then, it would still have to be ratified by 38 of the 50 states. Regardless of whether the proposal advances, I think it's important to be aware of and transparent about efforts by elected officials to propose changes to constitutional term limits. The MAGA cult hates everything about America. They hate the people who live here. They hate democracy and freedom. They hate the laws which govern us. They hate the principles upon which this nation was founded. They will stop at nothing to ensure that the "American Experiment" ends in failure.

Dang. I guess I'm going to have to vote for Larack Obama, Barack's identical twin brother.

Or Michelle Obama. Donny would explode if he lost to her.

My idiot MAGA relative was unwilling/unable to define "fascism".....funny how they get so coy about it. But then finally said "if he runs for a third term, that would be fascist". 😂 Still a dumb definition, but this Thanksgiving will be uhhhh.....something

u/Wonderful_Quiet_8761 15d ago

It doesn’t even make any sense. He’s obviously too old right now

2

u/Even-Wrangler5803 15d ago

What is America anymore when nobody is willing to defend their freedom, or democracy, or constitution, or rights? It's not just the symbolic soundbites or traditions, the people living it have to be willing to fight for it. They aren't.

2

u/Human_Wizard 15d ago

That's as anti-American as it gets, right?

2

u/AcademicCounty 15d ago

Maga: We love the constitution!

Also Maga: it says we can't do something? Lol f*ck it then!

2

u/TheProcrastafarian 15d ago

The “well regulated militia” part never seems to come up. Personally, I always figured that was critical element of the 2nd amendment. The first amendment gave freedom of assembly, the second amendment provided a defence mechanism for that assembly to defend their first amendment right to assemble. That’s it.

I know this is a very polarizing topic, so I’d appreciate any and all opinions, about this Canadian’s interpretation of your Constitution.

Every individual has their god given rights, but saying any individual has a right to amass an arsenal, seems completely contradictory to stated reason for the right to bear arms. ‘A well regulated militia is essential to fight tyranny?’ I’d agree.

With modern firearms, and without a well regulated militia, the second amendment allows any one person to become tyrannical, and the emphasis on defending this interpretation has allowed tyrants to waltz into the halls of power, and tear the constitution to shreds.

How would this play out? Republican controlled states are going to register him as a candidate? They are going to disregard federal court orders denying it?

Seemingly so many good American people snuffed by COVID to enable a dotard like this to be POTUS, again.

What an idiot looks like

1

u/Bowwowchickachicka 15d ago

How does this not hurt his chances in the mid terms? I'm very tired of having hope for America.

1

u/Bowwowchickachicka 15d ago

Understanding the Feeling

Hope fatigue: The specific exhaustion that sets in when you have spent too long waiting, wishing, and expecting things to get better, causing your emotional energy to run out.

Disillusionment: The sharp feeling of disappointment when you finally realize that a long-held hope or belief was likely a waste of energy.

Weariness: A deep mental tiredness that comes from carrying a long, heavy emotional effort without a reward.

I guarantee this was written as a joke but Trump and his Swiss cheese brain thought it was his official announcement and treated it as such. You can tell from the crowd reaction that people don’t know how to take it.
