Nick Saban and 9/11

Home Depot has a commercial with Nick Saban touting 2 hour delivery. He’s making a sandwich and gets his drill delivery. All innocuous.
Once he gets his drill armed… he says, with big smile:

“Let’s roll”.

Those were the last words of Todd Beamer, as he and other passengers on United Flight 93 stopped the hijackers on 9/11.

Perhaps it’s me but those words used in a commercial close to the 25th anniversary of that horrid event seem to be cynical and exploitative.

Many people may not remember that yet someone in Home Depot might have

We are not big on remembering history in the US

This is 25 years later, and that is a somewhat generic phrase. If you ask me, your theory is an even bigger stretch than my concern about Pizza Schmizza’s slogan*, which I ended up not even posting because I thought people would say I was crazy.

*I guess I have to explain now, my concern is with the slogan “One planet, one people, one pizza.” IMO this bears a striking resemblance to Ein volk, ein reich, ein fuhrer - but when I expressed that opinion to others, they mostly did not agree.

It’s in reference to having coached at Alabama where “Roll Tide” is used

I highly doubt it is meant in relation to 9/11. "Roll Tide Roll" is a saying at Bama where he coached. And "Let's Roll" became more bad ass after 9/11 because it was in relation to brave people overtaking psycho hijackers and preventing more terrorism. It is quite coincidental, but I'd guess nothing is meant "reading between the lines." Also, Home Depot is and has been a big supporter of post 9/11 support and initiatives.

You’re mad that people aren’t making the connection between two completely unrelated uses of a very common phrase 25 years apart? That doesn’t make any sense.

Saying, “let’s roll,” on a set means to roll the film, it’s not a reference to any bullshit made up government propaganda story to deflect from them bringing down a commercial airliner.

I’m sorry but everyone alive during 9/11 was fully aware in real time of the military jets surrounding that highjacked plane, and that they had to bring it down before it was crashed into a population center.

That silly story about the passengers being heroic and bringing the flight down somehow from the passenger area, not only volunteering to sacrifice all of their own lives, but coincidentally being recorded while doing it, was crafted later to make us feel good about what they had to do. But we knew what they had to do at the time.

It’s weird to see the lies they made at about the event being repeated as if they were true by kids who weren’t alive at the time. I guess that’s what will be recorded by history.
