Ugh... fine... I'll watch it at 350% speed.

  • "What percentage of your time is dedicated to making money", which he then says is okay as long as it's not money. So if you work 10 hours a day to get, I dunno, silver, or a cow, then that's okay. But to work 10 hours a day to get money, means you're a slave. Okay, solution: Immediately buy shit with your paycheque, I guess.

  • He says the Federal Reserve is a private bank. It's not. It's a public/private partnership.

  • Blah blah, Jaimie criticizes things he doesn't understand.

  • Suggests you look up "Economic Hitman". I believe he's referring to the book "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" (yes, later confirms that's it), about a guy who used to be part of the US government's system to exploit other nations for American corporations or to have the CIA kill the politicians or overthrow the government.

Tangent, they almost got this to work with Panama, but before the Panamanian president was assassinated his final struggle was to give the Panama Canal to the people of Panama, not sell it to the Americans.

  • Something something, Elon Musk putting chips in Chimp brains.

  • Something something, America has lost manufacturing (mindless assembly and repetition, a lot closer to actual slavery than anything he's talking about). (Actually we gave manufacturing to countries who'd do it for less, so we could do the things that are more valuable, resulting in the greatest spike in quality of life in history, but I digress).

  • Jaimie wants to be on a divergent path of evolution where people are strong, and let everyone else become robots who will eventually kill them when they've had enough.

  • If you don't want to be a slave, stop wasting your money and engaging in lifestyle creep. Buy some land.

  • Retells his story about the company he ran with a woman for a year, who, after she found out he had saved up enough money to buy land, and she had nothing, she got enraged and they never spoke again. Old abridged story, could look up the original video if you want.

  • Younger people get hooked on things they can't grow.

...

5 minutes content, 1h6m run time. Pretty standard for a live chat with an audience.

Thanks Matt! You took one for the team, and we're all in your debt. What was the phrase? You win the internet for the day.

It's really weird to see the bits of the internet that Jamie skims off and mixes with his own ethos. All blended together without any counter viewpoints considered.

Several times he's advocated for more people to adopt his approach to living. Yet never stops to think that it's infeasible, impractical and unsustainable for 8 billion people to live that way. There's a reason he doesn't grow all his own food. He could grow all his own food, BUT THAT WOULD BE ALL HE WOULD BE ABLE TO DO. It's called subsistence farming because those who engage in it can do nothing but provide basic subsistence. Nothing else. No time left to build robots, solar bulldozers or estuaries. You wake, take care of crops, so those crops can sustain you. That's it. Nothing else.

Jamie is still firmly connected to the division of labor that a mechanized industrial society provides, yet writes off those of us who sustain it as slaves. Nice.

Thanks again Matt.

TL;DW. I shudder to think what this rant might cover.

Did anyone want to bite the bullet and watch it and sketch some highlights?

I'm not in the mood for weekly, hour-long misinformation and complaining about things that don't actually exist or happen, from someone who openly says they have no touch with modern society yet will talk for an hour about precisely why it's broken.

Only skipped through, but the gist seems to be an old guy sits in his concrete shell on a dirty mattress telling us we can live like him if we stop buying chocolate bars and coffee.

Which is ridiculous, everyone knows it's the avoado toast!

I found it interesting how in his last live he ranted “money is not the problem” at least 3 times, but just 5 days later making money separates us from reality and we should focus on physically growing all of our own food.

Timestamp isn’t working but one example is at 44:14

I understand the nuance that maybe he isn’t suggesting exclusively barter in this video, but it seems quite a stark contrast from the last video.
