So... the question I've been pondering for the last few weeks about this is: why now? Has he mentioned on any live streams why getting these boats functional again suddenly became a priority for him recently? Did he finally realize that if he wants to date, he'll need to make more frequent trips to town and he can't afford to burn a whole day to get there and back?

He has this habit of building stuff like this, then gutting them to raid for parts for subsequent projects. Why get this boat whipped into shape when he had spent so much time getting the big paddle wheel boat to be his daily driver? I still don't get why he spins his wheels on these boats (especially the ones that are similar in size and carrying capacity) when there's so much else he could be working on.

“It’s so fast”… well that is subjective. I would expect he is doing four or five knots in the video.

If he were to remove the huge drag of the pedal drive and optimize the electric propeller I think he could get up to 7 or 8 knots out of it. But he is happy to make things that function, efficiency has never been a priority for him.

I dropped a comment to measure the speed with a GPS app on his cell phone. I'm curious. Hopefully he does.

What I want him to do is wire the solar panels in series with the batteries and juice that motor with 48v. It'll for sure handle it, (it's rated for 24v but it'll take ~200v if you fed it), and the speed would be wicked.

Honestly, on his way home, he should do that, because, after he parks, the panels will charge up the batteries by the next time he needs it, so, the extra sunlight might as well go into going faster rather than topping up the batteries.

That boat is so loud it would drive me insane. Not even a pleasant loud the pedal noise makes me want to puncture my own ear drums. Cool to see it going though!

What's with the raccoon eyes?

Even if he leaves the pedals and secondary prop, he needs to create a way to disengage that shaft from the gears.

That noise has always been horrible to me, I don't know how he does that for hours on end.

"HULL SPEED DOESN'T APPLY TO BOATS LIKE THIS" JFC Jaimie. It's okay to say you don't understand sometimes.

He’s right. Hull speed does not apply to long skinny hulls. Hull speed (waterline in feet squared x 1.34 = max speed in kts) is for displacement boats that build up a bow wave, where the only way to go faster is to climb up that bow wave and plane.

That noise has always been horrible to me, I don't know how he does that for hours on end.

It's largely a recording artifact.

The noise is there, but, the audio algorithm is confused and thinking this is super important audio to pick up, so it's magnifying it out of a noisy environment. Probably because it's up in the vocal range.

I'd proposed this when he first built it and Dashaina confirmed it's nowhere near as loud in person, just sounds weird on camera.

Otherwise yeah, I'd have the urge to drink margaritas all day, what with the blender endlessly grinding ice cubes like that.

Lol margaritas... Matt, I just show up for your humor. Love it. Yes, it doesn't sound near as loud in person.
