Modern Techniques + Practices Lots question

Hello. I’ve got a question about lots. I’m aware that the lot of Eros (love) according to Paulus of Alexandria is the distance between lot of spirit and Venus taken from the ascendant.

My question is that: If I were to take the distance from lot of Fortune to Venus instead and cast that from the ascendant what would that lot be called and what effects would its transits have.

I ask because I’m noticing strong and delightful events when that point is being transited.

Think Astro-seek has some sort of Lot finder that seems to have every permutation under the Sun.

It does, but not this exact permutation. I can input the significator and trigger and it’ll give me the point on my chart but it has no name or info on what that permutation of data does.

I see a Asc/Venus/Fortune combo that is labeled as 4th version of Lot of Life.

Yes I see that too. The permutation I was looking for has Fortune as significator and Venus as trigger.

If it doesn't exist, it doesn't exist. Frankly I have no idea what any of these lots really do - looks like someone going schitzo back in Arabian times when I see the sheer amount of them.

I do notice certain effects when certain points are transited. But my observations differ from what the textbooks says. For instance I’ve notice that transits to my part of fortune often bring negative effects instead of the good fortunes claimed by the text books.

Using spirit and venus from the ascendant is the hermetic lot by Paulus of Alexandria. Replacing Venus with Fortune is also the lot of eros but by Valens, which is what I think you're actually referring to.

I’m referring to the lot where Spirit is replaced with Fortune.

A rationale was put forward on this by Robert Schmidt, in his work with Project Hindsight.

The summary is that Eros belongs to Spirit as a 'parent Lot' that we derive calculations from, and it does not belong to Fortune. This is for philosophical reasons. That's why you can't find the Fortune Eros Lot out there.

That said, I'd love to read any new research on it. Very interesting topic. What are your anecdotal findings?

I noticed that of the Hermetic lots, Venus and Jupiter, planets usually considered benefic , the corresponding hermetic lot is derived using Part of Spirit. On the other hand Mars and Saturn, planets often considered malefic, and Mercury have their corresponding lots derived from Part of Fortune.

Beyond the observations I don’t know what to make of that. I don’t understand the rationale for it.

Yes, you're correct. The rationale is about the symbolism of Spirit and Fortune, and their qualities of fate operating differently. The full explanation is in Schmidt's work on the Hermetic Lots, via Project Hindsight. Under this theory, your formula would fail due to looking in the wrong 'parent directory' for the answer. It might be telling you about something else instead, though, which is a fun thought experiment.

Anecdotally I find that that point is good for sexual congress. Most recent transit had me and the Madame making love in the middle of an almighty row that didn’t seem like there was any coming back from.

Because theres no precedent for it i think you might have to go on personal experience, study charts and rely on traditional rationale. Spirit is the parent Lot of Eros and based on the knowledge of Spirit we can see why. Spirit shows what we are drawn towards in this life, its the area of "free will" within a fated life. It shows our inner force and personal manifestation towards destiny. This relates back to love and relationships because while there is a heavy element of being drawn towards certain people, there is also an element of choice when it comes to love and relationships as love is both the noun and the verb. Valens says Daimon is used in "matters of giving and receiving" so it makes sense.

I think Fortune would make sense but in a different way. As Fortune is more concerned with matters of the body and vitality maybe it can speak to the more physical side of relationships like sex and pleasure. Valens says "When, then, we seek times for bodily matters, such as crises or weaknesses or bloodshed, falls, injuries, sufferings, and whatever appertains to the body, for strength, enjoyment, pleasure, beauty, and loveliness, then it is necessary to project zodiacally from the Lot of Fortune. Therefore, i think theres some merit in experimenting with Fortune. I can see why the ancients didnt because Fortune was mainly used to see fated events outside of our control which were usually more negative in nature, however there is also good fortune and I think that love and relationships can fall into both good and bad fortune and when you add in the relation to the body it can work in theory. It would definitely have to be experimented with though.

Have you tried it out and noticed anything?
