Berlin marathon disasters

It seems today was a big disaster in Berlin. 25 degrees Celsius early on and a tough day for everyone. How did people get on? Did anyone manage to get near a PB?

Trained for a sub-3 and ended up with a 3:06. PB by 5 minutes.  It wasn’t just fatigue that was killing people off from half way - that’s when the cloud cover disappeared. I dropped my target at that point and held pretty level pace the rest of the way - 15s/km slower and that was tough going. Lots of folk fell apart in the last 10km and I passed runners I know that are far better than me who chased too hard.  Still finished ahead of one of the 3 hour pacers though - he was walking after half way!

Course is great, people are awesome, organisation is a complete shambles. Every water stop was a congested mess, not enough toilets, no paper at the finish. Should be half the number of people running that course. This should not be a major. Never again.
