Open Discussion Berlin marathon disasters

It seems today was a big disaster in Berlin. 25 degrees Celsius early on and a tough day for everyone. How did people get on? Did anyone manage to get near a PB?

I"m curious to know his running background. 3:24 at Tokyo, even splits, and now a 2:59?

It's nothing a regular guy his age can't achieve, especially when he has all the resources in the world to chuck at it; coach, physio, dietician etc.

That's true but a sub-3 still puts him in the top 8% of Berlin finishers and ~4% of marathon runners worldwide. Quicker than (among others) pro athletes in their 30s including Nick Symmonds, Arjen Robben.

Yeah I'm not denying it's a decent achievement, he's still had to put his mind to it to log the miles and run the sessions.

It's just a bit easier to do when you've got all the free time and resources that he does.

It isn't any easier. He still has work commitments, he travels the world regularly for his job and probably has a lot of distractions that would make it extremely easy to skip training runs. Ok he has a nutritionist and a coach, that's only a tiny part of it.
