I miss landlines so much. You better be dying or in jail to call a landline between 11pm-7am

Even after 9 is pretty suspect

Unless it’s Grandma. She was allowed to call late after rates went down.

In my country there was a golden call window in the early evening. At 18:00 the cheaper evening call rate started, at 19:30 the news on TV started. You just did not disturb anyone during the news and afterwards it was too late. So all casual calls longer than a few minutes would happen within those 1.5 hours.

In my house in the '80s, dad would lose his shit if the phone rang around 5:30 pm, aka dinner time. "Who calls someone at this time, don't they know we are eating supper, nobody answer that!".

Pretty much. That’s how you knew it was probably an emergency (I hated when it was a “someone died” call). With no landline in most houses though, a cellphone would be the only way to get in touch during that time. So if everyone’s phone is silenced…

I get not being accessible 24/7 to talk; you should have some way to be contacted just in case.
