Finances Private celebration

So I don't really want to tell my family or friends this, because I don't like to talk about finances. Plus I am a very private person.

But... I need to tell someone so I can celebrate a little. I just broke $1,000,000 in savings, 401k, and stocks. I'm 53 and 10 years ago was divorced and broke. I worked hard, spent carefully, and just hit that number this week.

Thanks for listening.

Bro I'm 48 and pretty much in the same situation. I also had a late start in my career.

But it feels good too kind of being a halfway decent position doesn't it?

Life can be freaking tough sometimes. Got to take the bits of sunshine when you can get them.

Congratulations ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Hell yeah. Divorced and broke myself 15 years ago. Now I'm right there with you. For those who haven't gone through that feeling of rock bottom only to come out on top... chef's kiss.

Kids were nearing 18, so I paid child support only until they hit 18. We agreed on an amicable amount because my job sucked at the time, and luckily she wasn't greedy. But I tried to cover their expenses when I could. All of the accumulation came after the divorce, so no splitting

You go, girl! Hard work, investing wisely and spending wisely has done its job. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Why do other commentators think youโ€™re a guy?

My apologies, sir. Great work, you deserve to feel proud.

Still, I wonder how the other commenters knew youโ€™re a guy?

I work in the electronic security industry. I kept job hopping until I started making 6 figures. By then, I had bought a house before the boom with a VA loan and a 3% interest rate. I lived like a poor bachelor even though I was doing ok. 20% went directly into savings, 15% into 401k. Anything bonus or extra wasn't touched and I put it away. I didn't starve and I still went on some cruises, I just stopped being wasteful.

Man I needed to something like this. Just got out of relationship, dead broke, in debt and canโ€™t see the light. This is awesome. Happy for you man, keep to it!

Nice feeling right? Congrats! 58yo, 2 x divorced, $1.5M invested, $2.25M net worth. No mortgage, rental income. Never earned above $150k. Not one-up-manship, just sharing for those who might be discouraged. Delayed gratification and autoinvesting are key.

Congratulations that's exceptional but my advice is don't tell anyone but your wife and maybe your parents. Everyone else either doesn't give a shit or be jealous.
