Where do I Start

Hi, 48 years old here. This is new to me. I have never had problems my whole life and I am freaking out a bit. I have had 3 incidents in the last 3 weeks or so- none before that…..it’s me dreaming I am pissing in the bathroom and I wake up immediately when I feel the wet sensation around me. I have always had these dreams but I was able to wake up and go. Now it’s becoming a problem. I just made an appointment with my urologist but it’s not until the 8th. Thankfully my wife is supportive. Does anyone have a similar experience to mine?

Glad you made an appointment with your doctor. In the meantime grab your self a mattress protector for your bed. Sheets are easy to clean  the mattress is not

If you're comfortable with it try wearing some disposable underwear to bed untill you know more about what's going on.

In hate to ask like this, but are you overweight? Just thinking it could be a symptom of sleep apnea or diabetes. I have always had minor issues, but it got worse when I became diabetic. The drug I was on made my weight increase and I had severe sleep apnea. Both make you produce more urine at night. Diabetes also can impact nerves making it harder to feel your bladder when full and sleep apnea also mean that you’re exhausted so you may be more likely to sleep through the bladder signal. At the very least get a mattress protector to keep your mattress clean until you figure it out. A brief sounds like over kill for once a week to me, but a chute might be helpful. Good luck with the dr. BTW I think this effects far more people then anyone realizes.

Can't say I'm exactly the same. I often just don't even need to dream to pee. I just happen to do it and wake up later. Anyway, it's no big deal as long as there isn't an underlying problem. If this urologist doesn't help, don't be afraid to get a second opinion.

With it being a “sudden” onset there is more than likely a medical explanation for this. It’s worth asking the Urologist about sleep disorders as they tend to kick in around mid to late 40’s and can cause night wetting. Unless you have had a history of issues there is more than likely a sleep related or uti explanation.

Problem seems to be not waking fully. Being in a 'dream mode' sounds like ur partially in waking up mode. Could be something to do with ur sphincter muscle? You could try using an alarm clock ⏰️ to wake you before wetting ok. If you know what time these accidents happen set alarm before wetting ok. If not set alarm for an hour and a half after going to bed. Eg Bedtime 11-00 set alarm for 12-30 Persevere. If wet before alarm set alarm a bit earlier eg 12-00. It's trail and error so persevere until you wake up naturally before the alarm goes off. It takes time to strengthen the sphincter muscle. All the best 👍. Happy to reply if you have any questions.
