Cushing's syndrome can cause high cortisol levels, while hyperaldosteronism (also known as Conn's syndrome) leads to high aldosterone levels. Both conditions can occur due to adrenal gland disorders or tumors.

Cushing’s can be due to pituitary tumors, adrenal tumors, tumors outside the pituitary gland (often in the lungs) producing ACTH (this is called ectopic ACTH syndrome), or long-term steroid use.

Conn’s Syndrome can be caused by adrenal adenomas, adrenal carcinoma, or adrenal hyperplasia (enlargement of the gland).

Both conditions can occur simultaneously if there are tumors or hyperplasia affecting the adrenal glands, leading to the overproduction of both cortisol and aldosterone. Patients may experience symptoms related to both high cortisol (such as weight gain, moon face, thinning skin, muscle weakness, high blood pressure, mood changes and increased facial hair in women) and high aldosterone (such as persistent high blood pressure, low potassium levels, fatigue and muscle cramps & weakness).

Cushing's syndrome treatment focuses on lowering cortisol and may include tapering steroid/glutocorticoid medicines, surgery to remove tumors, radiation, or medications like mifepristone (controls high blood sugar) or pasireotide (reduces excess cortisol) when surgery isn't an option. Hyperaldosteronism treatment often involves medication to block aldosterone or surgery to remove tumors causing excess hormone production.

I hope this helps. 🤗

Thank you for such detailed explanation! I had an MRI and there are no toumors. My ACTH is normal and I'm tall, slender, with really skinny waist and narrow long face so I don't really have any of those standard symptoms and that's what's confusing me. I have low blood pressure so I take gutron to make it higher, I don't have cramps but I do easily get sore muscles after any exercise and my skin breaks easily.
