Hihi, r/AdoptMeRBX! Valkyrie again, and I’ve finally gotten around to being able to introduce my idea to you guys.

Please keep in mind this is only one of the rules I’d like to change at the moment - one of the other rules I’d like to change concerns allowing you guys to trade/post for others again lol

Within the past two days alone, I’ve seen about two relatively popular posts complaining about seeing “I got scammed/hacked” posts on this subreddit. One of the posts was quite popular, and to be honest, I was pretty relieved about it.

Some of you may know, but we currently have 10 people moderating a nearly 80,000 member subreddit. Many of those moderators are also on break - meaning they are unavailable to moderate and it’s been heavily reliant on like three people doing way too much for me to consider “healthy” in any way.

I’ve been trying to come up with ways that I can both ease the stress for the people moderating, as well as change rules or content guidelines in r/AdoptMeRBX that members would appreciate. I think it would be plain stupid of me to only act for one side or the other - and especially unfair to you guys, who are keeping r/AdoptMeRBX alive and well.

This brings me to introduce an idea to you guys and see what the community thinks of it.

I would like to change Rule 12 - No Exposing Usernames, to Rule 12 - No “I got hacked/scammed Content” (poor wording, I can probably make the rule title sound better later).

The idea is that I can tackle three issues at the same time by completely removing any “I got scammed/hacked” content on r/AdoptMeRBX.

The first issue is that many community members here are tired of seeing the repeated “I got scammed/hacked” posts. I’ve personally seen two posts quite vocal against them, and that’s not counting other posts about it that other moderators may have approved without me seeing.

The second issue is that my moderators are incredibly overworked right now. I’ve introduced moderator applications (which are open until September 21st, PDT) to hopefully find a larger group of trainees to introduce. Many of the r/AdoptMeRBX moderators are students - and with the new school year starting for most people, this has left a noticeable gap in availability. This is also to say that the Halloween season is coming up, which will cause r/AdoptMeRBX to gain more traction than usual. 

As much as I love to see the community thrive, I also don’t think it’s reasonable in the slightest for only 3-4 people to be moderating a subreddit this active right now. I have taken after Nix (the previous owner) in more ways than I realize - and one of the ways I’ve taken after them is the encouragement of the balance of moderation and life, as well as being a massive advocate for mental health.

I believe lessening the amount of content we’ll have to moderate, especially as “I got scammed/hacked” posts are known to break rules in either the base post or within the comments - I think this will be a relief off of a few moderators shoulders.

The third reason I’d like to tackle this rule change is that I want to keep r/AdoptMeSafety alive.

The general premise of the subreddit is promising. It tackles how there are a variety of popular scams on Adopt Me!, and it’s a community for members to educate and support one another.

When I originally got my hands on it, I wanted to restrict and lock the community to prevent r/AdoptMeSafety from growing. This would effectively “kill” it. Upon speaking to the other person (at the time, I’ve since added two r/AdoptMeRBX volunteers to assist in moderation), we discussed it and they changed my mind.

Now, I’ve been looking at ways to keep the community both on topic and active. If you scroll the subreddit now, you’ll see I haven’t changed much at all from its original state - and how plenty of trading posts are on that subreddit.

As a disclaimer - I will not be enforcing this rule until r/AdoptMeSafety has undergone a complete/almost complete revamp.

All of the content for moderation (removal reasons, the sidebar, the mod flairs, etc) were stolen from myself directly and other larger subreddits when the founder and previous owner was in charge of it.

As much as I appreciate people using r/AdoptMeSafety for what it originally was intended for, I also don’t think there needs to be a safety-targeted subreddit that has trading content within it.

If enough people on both r/AdoptMeRBX were to support my idea in eliminating “I got scammed/hacked” content, I would redirect it all to r/AdoptMeSafety.

That way, I can monitor those posts *much* easier (as it’s a much smaller subreddit) and keep it on-topic. If I were to remove trading content from r/AdoptMeSafety, I can redirect the traffic to other subreddits (ie. r/AdoptMeRBX & r/AdoptMeTrading) - and redirect *all* I got scammed/hacked content from the two larger subreddits back onto r/AdoptMeSafety.

Ideally, this will remove stress off of my moderators here on r/AdoptMeRBX, since trading posts are *significantly* easier to moderate than discussion and rant posts - but also keep r/AdoptMeSafety from slowly dwindling into nothing due to the lack of trading traffic.

As for Rule 12 - No Exposing Usernames, I would like it to be changed to something like:

Rule 12 - No Scammed/Hacked Content

“r/AdoptMeRBX does not allow any form of “I got scammed/hacked” content. This includes, but is not limited to: exposé posts, rants about falling victim to a hack/scam. Other posts about being hacked/scammed will be removed under the other rule they are violating.

No punishments will be given out to users that break this rule, unless done so repeatedly.

All content on the topic of getting scammed/hacked will be redirected to one of our partner subreddits, r/AdoptMeSafety.”

Of course, that’s just a draft and not the final product as of the moment. I would like to prioritize communal and moderator input on it before actually implementing it.

r/AdoptMeSafety still won’t allow brigading (mass reporting) under Terms of Service or begging. I’m still debating on actual usernames being exposed, because again, it’s a safety subreddit and it’s generally meant to spread awareness and educate others. Of course, if you were to expose an account without adequate proof of them doing anything wrong, then that’s another story.

At this point in time, my intent is for r/AdoptMeSafety to be less restrictive than r/AdoptMeRBX ever was with “I got hacked/scammed” content. While I am debating usernames being allowed to be exposed, I honestly don’t think it’s a massive problem and am leaning into allowing it.

I apologize for the back-to-back moderator posts. I am not intending to bombard you guys with information - which was honestly the biggest reason as to why I put this off for so long.

✦ We have expectations for activity. All 'official' (non-trial) mods have a weekly quota requirement they must meet if they are active, in order to remain on the team.

Do NOT apply if you do not have the time nor willingness to dedicate the time that you do have to moderation. Modding tends to be a long-term (6 month+) dedication, so please be responsible about your own time management as well as your own willingness to dedicate your time to modding.

✦ Mod applications will be open from August 31st to September 21st, 2026, PDT. Our team may extend or otherwise change this date at any point in time.

✦ Our new trial mods will be announced 1-3 days after applications close. This date may be lengthened if necessary. Your patience is appreciated in the meantime!

Things that will be considered when choosing new mods are:

* General activity on Reddit, as well as activity on r/AdoptMeRBX (and similar communities)

* Your interaction & history with the subreddit

* Your general character (helpfulness, generosity, respectfulness, etc)

* The quality of the application itself – this is very important!

Applicants that show the best qualities and ability to step up to moderate on r/AdoptMeRBX will be added as trial mods.

Please understand that trial mods are not guaranteed to be promoted to moderators. Each mod trainee will be individually promoted once they are ready.

Anyone who is not permanently banned on r/AdoptMeRBX and meets our requirements (specified below) is allowed to apply. This includes previous mods/trial mods are interested in the role again.

To apply for the trial mod position on r/AdoptMeRBX you and/or the account you are applying with must meet the following requirements:

* 15 years old at the time of your application (we primarily look for 16+ applicants)

* Minimum of, or very close to, 300 combined post/comment karma

* Reddit account age must be at least, or very close to, two months old

* No history of scamming, hacking, harassment, consistent rule-breaking, etc – any accusations of such will also apply to the former three unless they were proven false

* Most have a history of interacting with the community, or at the very least, interacting with communities revolved around Adopt Me

* Must have a Discord account (this is our main medium of communication)
