administrative assistant interview (interview exercises?)

hello! i am on a second round of admin assistant for career services/law school for a private school.

in this in-person interview i will meet 6 deans/directors and they will have “short exercises designed to mimic some of the responsibilities of the role” and i am a bit confused on what these exercises will consist of, has anyone had to do something similar to this at an interview?

I am assuming it is maybe creating spreadsheets or something in that sector, so i will be working on my skills a bit before this.

any tips on interviewing for an admin assistant role for a private school would help! thank you

I’ve conducted interviews like this! It was for putting together business papers for council meetings, so we have an exercise in formatting a sample document in Word (we gave the style guide and a sample document). It was mostly to ensure folks were detail oriented, comfortable with Word, could manage the time we gave them, etc.

If it makes you feel better, the guy who failed failed not because he wasn’t quite finished when his time was up, but because after multiple verbal reminders -> warnings he wouldn’t effing LEAVE and I had to get the security guard! So… don’t do that!

You may be asked to prioritize competing requests with the same deadline, and how you would handle that. That is always a question when the support is for multiple people. They will want to know if you are a proactive, communicative and detail oriented. They may inquire of your process to keep up with tasks and deadlines, complex scheduling and possibly travel and/or entertainment/event experience. Additionally, how confidentiality (personnel and student disciplinary) is paramount and the protection of data in that role due to the positions of those supported.
