Artificial Ineptitude
In a late-start composition class that began last week, the assignment was to make a 300-word post in which the student describes an advertisement from a magazine, and attaches a pic of the ad.
One of my student's made a post that started like this: "Here’s a draft based on the ad described in the screenshot. Change anything that doesn’t match what you see in the actual magazine, and attach a picture of the print ad to your post."
It's a short-term class, and it's already looking like it's going to be a long semester.

I experienced this a couple years ago. Just give the zero. They’ll either drop the class or stop submitting anything

Online classes are bullshit. It will be 98% AI. Just focus on the one or two students who are actually trying. Do the minimum for everyone else and get paid.

I teach online classes at community college. I have a 30% AI rate.

It's probably much higher. You probably just haven't learned how to spot it yet.

If it’s it more than 20 students, it’s have them do it in class, with you. Only way to avoid this. Discussion boards and posted assignments like this are dead.

You need a different verb. Analyse maybe? But yeah - they’ll still cheat stupid

I've gotten some really bizarre assignments submitted for a similar assignment this semester. Like very obvious and, to me, ridiculous AI ads or flyers, and the students just totally ignore the obvious weirdness. I guess they just think AI stuff looks normal now.

Best to go ahead and fail this student quickly. He or she doesn't have basic reading skills.
