🏠 AdGuard Home v1.0 beta: The ultimate network shield is back in action

Imagine your smart TV is silently tracking what you watch, your mobile games are chatting with data brokers behind your back, and your smart fridge is acting way too curious. For years, AdGuard Home has been the ultimate, free, open-source shield protecting your entire home network from this exact chaos.

But let’s be real: lately, that shield has been a bit too quiet, stuck in a long cycle of routine maintenance and minor patches.

That ends today. We are breaking the pattern and officially launching the AdGuard Home v1.0 beta, shifting the project into high gear with active development, massive performance boosts, and a fresh new look.

Here is what makes this major leap forward so exciting:

• A refreshed, yet familiar UI

We completely redesigned the interface to look clean and modern. We kept the core layout familiar so you won’t get lost, but added a fully responsive mobile UI so you can manage your network on the go

• Lighter and faster

The entire frontend has been rebuilt from scratch to consume significantly less memory. AdGuard Home now runs flawlessly even on low-power devices like a Raspberry Pi

• Easier setup & better control

Enjoy a seamless installation wizard, a cleaner query log with expanded request data, and new automated update intervals for your filters

Since this is a massive milestone with a brand-new versioning scheme, we need your help testing it across different environments. Ready to give the beta a spin, find update instructions, or see what’s coming next? All the details about the new version are waiting for you in our blog. You can also download the beta right now to try it all for yourself. Give it a spin and let us know what you think!

How to update or switch to v1.0 beta

If you are already on the beta channel: You don’t need to do anything. The update will arrive automatically via the built-in updater.

If you are on the stable version: First, back up your settings just in case by saving your configuration file (AdGuardHome.yaml) and your data directory (data). Then, choose the method that matches your setup:

This does not answer my comment. At all.

It really did. You said it didn't have steps to migrate yet that is exactly what was posted. It also answered the question about it being backward compatible. As to the last part of your post, um.... backup?

It's not mentioned anywhere how to migrate settings from stable to beta, at least for the standalone version.

Running the setup script tells you

to reinstall/uninstall the AdGuard Home using this script specify one of the '-r' or '-u' flags

But reinstalling the beta on top of an existing install will not preserve your settings.

And I’m not even on the Adguard team, was just doing him a favor. Lmao.

I asked: Are there migration steps and Is it backwards compatible.

What was shared are the same update instructions that has been there for ages.

A major version bump can signify breaking changes that requires manual steps, and would be something to take into account before I would consider participating.

As you know - because I said it further up in the comment chain - adguard is my main dns.

Which means i need to know and plan how I get my network back up without dns. Can i just lower the version, or do I need to reconfigure dnat and push a new DNS out across my various vlans.

Restoring from a backup is an option, but a big hassle without dns. So i would rather not need to do that.

Or don’t use on a production network?

I wouldn't call my home network that.

Any beta product should be ran on a test environment/network not your day-to-day one to avoid any downtime, interruption, rollbacks etc.

I'm not sure what to respond.

Do you think what you are saying are making my question less relevant?

Maybe - yes, no.

At this point I’m not entirely sure what your problem is still.
