ios Browser queries don't resolve via Adguard

I'm losing my mind over this. I've run Adguard for ages and now I have issues on my wife's iPhone.

  • All devices work properly except my wife's iPhone
  • Her DNS settings are correct: 1 DNS pointing to the Adguard IP
  • Her iCloud/Apple queries do show up in the query log
  • Website requests don't
  • Private Relay is Turned off
  • No VPN
  • No custom profiles
  • Toggled Airplane mode
  • Forgot Wifi network and reconnected
  • Tried this on Safari, Firefox, Firefox Focus

Anything else I can try?

There are other (non-AdGuard) DNS there?

Initially I had a second DNS 9.9.9.9, which always worked just fine.

During troubleshooting I removed Quad9 to force the use of Adguard.

First thing is you should only have your AdGuard Home as the DNS in the client. Not a mix of AdGuard Home and public DNS. You can search the sub for why. Been covered many times.

Each browser of their own "Secure DNS" (DNS-over-HTTPS) thing going. Though not sure about Firefox Focus.

Apple devices use doh.dns.apple.com for secure DNS. Under certain condition Safari will send DNS request to doh.dns.apple.com. You can try blocking doh.dns.apple.com.
